QR Code Generator Chrome Extensions (2026): 10 Compared

A QR code generator Chrome extension turns the page you're on, a link or a bit of text into a QR code from your toolbar, and some also scan or decode codes. Several share the same name, so the publisher, users count, ratings count and last updated date are what tell them apart. Ten follow in no particular order.

Most of these extensions do the same core job: you click the icon and get a QR code for the tab you're looking at, ready to save or scan with a phone. Where they differ is in the extras their listings describe, such as scanning codes from images or a webcam, saving as SVG, batch mode, editing a code later or working offline.

Three of the ten sit in the Chrome Web Store under the plain title QR Code Generator, so I've added each publisher in brackets to keep them apart. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every number below comes from the extension's own listing: users, average rating, ratings count, who offers it and when it was last updated, all as of Oct 2026. If you need codes for print runs or campaigns rather than a quick one from your browser, my guide to QR code generators for business covers the full web tools.

Ten QR code extensions in one table

Type and Good for come from each listing's own description. Yes in the last column means the listing itself says the extension is free; Not stated means it doesn't say either way, as of Oct 2026.

Same name, very different numbers

The biggest listing here isn't the one with the most ratings. The QR Code Generator (Uniqode) shows 2,000,000 users and 509 ratings, while the listing from high-qr-code-generator.com shows 900,000 users and 6K ratings, as of Oct 2026. At the other end, Simple QR Code Generator shows a 5.0 average from just 5 ratings on 75 users.

Update dates spread out too. QR Code Generator and Reader was last updated on May 31, 2024 and Offline QR Code Generator on June 2, 2024, while the newest update on the list is dated October 8, 2026, as of Oct 2026. A 5.0 from a handful of people and a 4.5 from hundreds aren't the same evidence, so read the average, the count and the date together.

Matching a QR extension to what the code is for

  • You want a code for the page you're on: pick an extension whose listing says it makes a code from the current tab URL.
  • You need to read codes as well as make them: pick one whose listing adds a scanner or decodes codes in images.
  • The code is going to print: pick one whose listing offers SVG downloads, a vector format that scales without blurring.
  • You're often on a shaky connection: pick one whose listing says it works offline.
  • You make lots of codes at once: pick one that lists a batch mode or a history of past codes.

Checks before you add a QR extension

  1. Read the Offered by line, because three listings here share one title.
  2. Compare users with the ratings count, not the star average on its own.
  3. Check the last updated date: two on this list haven't changed since mid 2024, as of Oct 2026.
  4. Look at the privacy section. All ten listings here say the extension won't collect or use your data, as of Oct 2026.
  5. Scan a test code with your phone before you print it or share it anywhere.

My plain advice on QR code extensions

Start with what the code is for. A quick code for the tab you're on is the simplest job, and nearly every listing here describes it. If you need scanning, SVG files, batch codes or offline use, filter by that first, then compare who offers the extension, the users count, the ratings count and the last updated date.

And if a code is going onto something you can't change once it's printed, take an extra minute over it. Check the link, check the size and scan it with a phone before it goes to the printer.

Frequently asked questions

What does a QR code generator Chrome extension do?

Going by the listings here, it makes a QR code from the page you're on, a link or some text. Several also scan codes, read codes from images or save them as SVG files.

Are QR code Chrome extensions free?

One listing of the ten says it's free as of Oct 2026. The other nine don't say either way on their store pages, so check before you add one.

Why do so many QR extensions have the same name?

Many publishers use the plain title QR Code Generator, so the name alone won't tell you who made it. Look at the Offered by line, the users count and the last updated date.

Which QR extension has the most users?

The largest listing here shows 2,000,000 users as of Oct 2026, and the smallest shows 75. Users alone don't tell you much, so compare the ratings count and the last updated date too.

Can a Chrome extension scan QR codes as well?

Some can. Four listings here mention scanning or decoding codes, from images or a webcam, as well as making them.
