Warehouse management software tells your team where every item lives, what to pick next and how to pack and ship it accurately. UK ecommerce sellers usually choose between a dedicated WMS, an inventory or retail ERP tool with warehouse features, and an enterprise suite for large networks. If you only count stock in one room, an inventory tool may be enough.
There's a moment in every growing online shop when the stockroom stops fitting in one person's head. Orders get picked from the wrong shelf, stock counts drift, and peak season turns into a scramble.
The ten tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from each vendor's own website, read as of Oct 2026. If you're not sure you need a WMS yet, my guide to inventory management software for small businesses is the place to start.
Warehouse management tools for UK sellers at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or an open source edition. Trial only means it names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.

Dedicated WMS or an inventory tool with a warehouse module?
Only some of these are warehouse management first. One well-known ecommerce WMS now trades as Descartes Peoplevox, and Extensiv's page says it has joined forces with the Descartes Systems Group too, so two names here now sit with the same owner. Mintsoft calls itself a cloud-based WMS built for 3PLs and ecommerce brands.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
The others start from stock and orders. Brightpearl's page says it's by Sage and calls itself the retail ERP for growing multichannel retailers, Cin7 is titled inventory management software and small business ERP, and Fishbowl leads with inventory for QuickBooks and Xero.
That isn't a flaw. If you pick and pack in one small unit, an inventory tool with warehouse features may be all you need for a good while yet.
Signs you've outgrown spreadsheets and stock counts
- Pickers rely on memory to find stock, so a new starter slows the whole team down.
- Orders ship late or with missing items because the process still runs on paper.
- Stock levels on your sales channels don't match the shelf, so you oversell or miss sales.
- Every busy season means adding shifts rather than getting faster.
What to ask a WMS supplier before you commit
- Which of my sales channels and couriers do you connect to out of the box? One tool here lists Argos and B&Q among the channels it supports.
- How do you handle returns? Returns are where stock accuracy usually slips.
- Can it run more than one warehouse, or more than one client? Growing brands and 3PLs both hit this sooner than they expect.
- When can we go live? Plan the switch around your peak season, never in the middle of it.
- Who sets it up? Ask about implementation, training and what a realistic go-live looks like for a business your size.
If carriers and labels are your main headache, my guide to shipping software for small businesses may solve that first.
Do you make warehouse management software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on choosing warehouse software in the UK
Start with the size of your operation, not the feature list. If you ship from one unit and your stock counts are mostly right, an inventory or multichannel tool with warehouse features will probably do. Once you've got several pickers, barcodes on every shelf and more than one sales channel, a dedicated WMS earns its place. And if someone else runs your warehouse, ask which WMS they use before you buy your own.
Whatever you choose, plan go-live away from your busiest month, because nobody wants to learn a new picking process in the middle of peak.

Frequently asked questions
What does warehouse management software do?
It records where each item is stored, tells pickers what to pick next, checks orders as they're packed and keeps stock levels accurate from goods-in to returns.
What's the difference between a WMS and inventory software?
Inventory software tracks how much stock you've got and where it sells. A WMS manages the work inside the warehouse: locations, picking, packing, shipping and returns.
Do I need a WMS for a small ecommerce business?
Not always. If you pick from one small unit and stock counts stay accurate, an inventory tool may be enough. Pickers relying on memory, late orders and overselling are the signs you're ready.
Which warehouse software is built for 3PLs?
Several here say they're built for 3PLs, as of Oct 2026, with tools for managing stock for many clients, billing and receiving in one system.
Can warehouse software connect to Shopify?
Yes. Several tools here connect to Shopify, and one retail ERP describes keeping Shopify as the storefront while it runs inventory, orders and fulfilment behind it, as of Oct 2026.
