You appeal a TikTok decision from the notification TikTok sends you about it, and the route changes depending on what was actioned: a removed post, a post kept out of the For You feed, restricted creator features or a banned account. If your whole account is banned, you can still log in to it to submit an appeal and download your personal data, as of October 2026.
The catch: every decision has its own appeal door
Most people go hunting for one appeal form. TikTok's help centre doesn't describe one. It describes separate routes, and each one starts from a different place in the app. For a removed post, the notification that explains why it was removed also tells you how to appeal. For a post that's been made ineligible for the For You feed, the appeal sits inside that post's analytics, and you can't even see the decision unless analytics is switched on. Restricted creator features are appealed through your Inbox. A banned account is appealed by logging in to it.
The second thing people get wrong is deleting the video and hoping that's the end of it. TikTok says deleting violative content doesn't remove the violation, and it may still reduce your account status or add restrictions after you've deleted it. If you think TikTok made a mistake, appeal. Don't delete.
| What was actioned | Where you appeal | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Removed video or other content | The notification explaining the removal | It gives the reason and how to appeal |
| Post ineligible for the For You feed | The post's Analytics, then the notification, then Appeal | Analytics must be turned on in TikTok Studio first |
| Restricted creator features | Inbox, System notifications, Account updates | Some creator features may be paused while your account is under review |
| Suspended account | Submit an appeal | Give your username with the "@" handle |
| Banned account | Log in to the banned account | You'll see a banner notification when you try to log in |

How to appeal a post kept out of the For You feed
If your post is ineligible for the For You feed, it isn't deleted. It just won't be shown in For You. You can review the reason, give feedback and appeal. First, turn on analytics if you haven't already:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select TikTok Studio.
- Tap Get started within Analytics.
- Tap Turn on.
Then submit the appeal:
- In the TikTok app, go to the post that is ineligible for the For You feed.
- Tap More insights at the bottom, or tap the More options button on the side of the post, then tap Analytics.
- Tap the notification for the ineligible post.
- Tap Appeal at the top.
Before you appeal, TikTok asks whether you understand why the post isn't eligible, with a Yes or No choice. If the appeal is successful, the post becomes eligible for recommendation in the For You feed again. If you want the background on what this label means and why it happens, my guide on what ineligible for recommendation means on TikTok covers that side.
How to appeal restricted creator features
Creators who join TikTok's promotional and monetization programs are held to a creator code of conduct on top of the Community Guidelines. TikTok names TikTok Shop, the Creator Rewards Program and TikTok LIVE among the programs it applies to, and it covers how you behave both on and off the platform. Restrictions depend on how severe the violations are and how many there are, from being kept out of creator programs for a period of time to a permanent ban from them.
- In the TikTok app, tap Inbox.
- Tap System notifications.
- Tap Account updates. You may need to scroll across.
- Tap the notification for the account restriction.
- Tap Appeal and follow the steps to submit your appeal.
You can also contact TikTok in the app. TikTok says it may temporarily restrict some creator features while your account is under review, so it can't be used to repeat the behaviour straight away. If that's the stage you're stuck at, here's why a TikTok account goes under review.
Account status: Healthy, Fair, Severe or Banned
Your account status reflects your violation history across TikTok over the last 90 days, and it can be Healthy, Fair, Severe or Banned. Violations expire after 90 days and stop counting. How much one violation hurts depends on the policy area involved (TikTok gives safety and civility as an example) and the feature where it happened, such as comments or direct messages. Repeated violations can progressively lower your status, bring temporary limits on features like posting a comment, or end in a permanent ban.
There's one escape hatch people rarely hear about. For certain first violations, TikTok may offer optional in-app policy training. Complete it and eligible restrictions on your account may be lifted. It doesn't apply if the first violations were severe.
To check where you stand, go to Profile, tap the Menu ☰ button, select TikTok Studio and tap Account check under More tools. You can also get there through Settings and privacy, then Support, then Safety Center, then Account check. A checkmark means no issue and a warning sign means there is one. It covers login, posting, commenting, editing your profile and sending direct messages.

When TikTok bans an account permanently
TikTok lists these as grounds for a permanent ban:
- You don't meet the minimum age or other requirements in the Terms of Service.
- The account impersonates another person or entity in a deceptive way.
- A severe violation, such as child sexual abuse material or youth exploitation, promoting or threatening violence, non-consensual sexual content, content that facilitates human trafficking, or real-world torture.
- Creating or using another account to dodge a restriction or ban on a different account.
- Multiple violations of TikTok's policies, or of its Intellectual Property Policy.
- An account that exists only to break the rules.
If your appeal is approved, your content and account status are reinstated, unless you've already deleted the account or the content. TikTok also deletes the personal data of banned accounts after a period of time, in line with the law and its data retention policy, and after that the account is gone. So download your data while you still can.
About starting again: TikTok allows multiple accounts, but it may restrict or ban yours if you use them to get around a ban. That includes making a new account after a ban for a severe violation, posting violative content on another account, or spreading violations across several accounts, for as long as the restriction or ban on your other account is active. Government, politician and news accounts follow the same moderation, but when they hit the violation limit they're kept out of the For You and Following feeds for 90 days, and in high-risk periods TikTok may stop them posting for 7 to 30 days.
My verdict on appealing a TikTok decision
Work out what was actioned first, because that tells you which door to use. Appeal from the notification, don't delete the post, and if your account is banned, log in and download your data before you do anything else. Check Account check so you know how close you are to the next step on the ladder, and remember every violation drops off after 90 days. And don't open a fresh account to get around a ban, because that's a ban reason in itself. If you've been locked out by a hacker rather than by TikTok, that's a different job, and my guide to getting a TikTok account back walks you through it.

Frequently asked questions
How long do TikTok violations last?
Violations on your TikTok account expire after 90 days and are no longer taken into consideration. Your account status reflects the last 90 days.
Can I appeal a permanent TikTok ban?
Yes. You can log in to the banned account to submit an appeal and download your personal data. TikTok deletes that data after a period of time, and then the account is no longer available.
Does deleting a removed video clear the violation?
No. TikTok says deleting violative content doesn't remove the violation, and it may still lower your account status or add restrictions.
What should I include in a TikTok suspension appeal?
TikTok's suspension article says to submit an appeal to report the problem and provide your username with the @ handle.
