ChatGPT Billing: Where to Find Invoices, Receipts and Failed Payments

Where your ChatGPT billing lives depends on where you subscribed. If you pay on the web, your invoices are in ChatGPT under Settings, then Billing, then Invoices; if you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, the receipts are in that store's purchase history, not in ChatGPT, as of October 2026.

This guide covers invoices, receipts, failed renewals and double charges. If you want to stop paying, see how to cancel a ChatGPT subscription instead.

The catch: app store receipts never show up in ChatGPT

If you started your subscription on an iPhone, iPad or Android phone, you'll look in ChatGPT's Invoices section and find nothing. That's expected. Receipts for subscriptions started through the Apple App Store or Google Play don't appear there, so you need the store's purchase history instead. And the account that paid may not be the email you use for ChatGPT.

Where to find each kind of invoice

How you payWhere the invoice or receipt is
Web (chatgpt.com)Settings, then Billing, then Invoices
Business workspaceWorkspace settings, then Billing, then Invoices, or Manage plan, then Payment method
Apple App StoreApple purchase history and the receipt Apple emails at each renewal
Google PlayPayments and subscriptions, then Budget and history

Finding any ChatGPT charge in four steps

  1. Work out which platform bills you: the web, Apple or Google Play.
  2. Web: open Settings, then Billing, then Invoices, and select View.
  3. Apple or Google: open the store's purchase history for the account that paid.
  4. If a renewal failed, clear your cache, check with your bank, and verify your billing details and region.

Web invoices for Go, Plus or Pro

In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Billing, and find Invoices. Select View beside an invoice to open it, and View all to see older ones.

If Invoices is missing or empty, check you're signed in to the right ChatGPT account or workspace. If the billing controls are missing altogether, sign in to the same account in a different browser and try again.

Apple receipts

Use the Apple Account that paid, which may be different from your ChatGPT email. Apple emails a receipt at each renewal. To find older ones on an iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the App Store and tap your photo or initials.
  2. Tap My Account if you're asked.
  3. Go to Apps and Purchase History, then Purchase History.
  4. Change the date filter if the charge you need is older.

Google Play receipts

Use the Google account that paid. Open the Play Store app, select your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions, then Budget and history, and find the ChatGPT order. Google also sends purchase confirmations to that account's email address.

Business workspace invoices

From workspace settings, select Billing, then Invoices. You can also go to Manage plan, then Payment method, to open the customer billing portal, where past invoices are listed too. You need to be an owner of the right workspace to see either.

If the Business workspace has been deactivated and you're an owner who can't open Billing, contact Support. Give them the account email, the workspace name or ID, the billing periods you need and any previous invoice number you have.

Why a Plus or Pro renewal payment fails

Failed renewals can come from security measures or from problems with the payment method. OpenAI's checklist:

  1. Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again.
  2. Contact your bank to check for a block or insufficient funds.
  3. Check your payment details, billing address and card expiry date.
  4. Make sure both you and your card issuer are in a supported country or region.

A failed renewal doesn't on its own mean your subscription has ended. For a web subscription, follow the payment recovery instructions in your billing email. For Apple or Google Play, check the store's payment settings, because they handle the payment, not ChatGPT.

The double-subscription trap

Duplicate charges happen when you subscribe on more than one of Apple App Store, Google Play and chatgpt.com. It's easy to do: you subscribe on your phone, forget, then upgrade on your laptop. OpenAI says subscribing on chatgpt.com is often easiest if you use several devices, but cancel any Apple or Google subscription first.

To see where you have an active subscription:

  • iPhone: Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions, then ChatGPT.
  • Android: Play Store profile, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then ChatGPT.
  • Web: Settings, then Billing.

Check all three if you've ever used ChatGPT on more than one device. If you're still deciding which paid plan to keep, my ChatGPT Go vs Plus guide may help.

My verdict

If you need invoices for your accounts or your accountant, I'd subscribe on chatgpt.com, because that's the only route where invoices sit in ChatGPT itself. I'd only stay on Apple or Google Play if you want everything in one app store bill, and then accept that you'll be digging through store history at tax time. And whatever you do, cancel the store subscription before you subscribe on the web, or you'll pay twice.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find my ChatGPT invoices?

On the web, open Settings, then Billing, then Invoices, and select View beside an invoice.

Why are my Apple or Google receipts missing in ChatGPT?

Receipts for subscriptions started through the Apple App Store or Google Play don't appear in ChatGPT's Invoices section. Check the store's purchase history.

Why did my ChatGPT renewal payment fail?

Usually security measures or a payment-method problem. Clear your cache, check with your bank, verify your billing details and confirm you're in a supported country or region.

How do I avoid being charged twice?

Only subscribe on one of Apple App Store, Google Play or chatgpt.com, and cancel the old one before you subscribe somewhere else.

Where are Business invoices?

In workspace settings under Billing, then Invoices, or through Manage plan, then Payment method. You need to be a workspace owner.

Why is my Invoices section empty?

Check you're signed in to the right ChatGPT account or workspace. If the billing controls are missing, sign in to the same account in a different browser and try again.

Does a failed renewal cancel my subscription?

Not by itself. For a web subscription, follow the payment recovery steps in your billing email. For Apple or Google Play, check the store's payment settings.

How do I get invoices for a deactivated Business workspace?

If you're an owner and can't open Billing, contact Support with the account email, workspace name or ID, the billing periods you need and any previous invoice number.
