Embedded Finance Platforms (2026): 10 BaaS Providers

Embedded finance platforms let a software company offer bank accounts, cards and payments inside its own product, without becoming a bank. The provider either is a licensed bank or connects you to one, and that split mostly follows geography: partner-bank networks in the US, licensed providers in Europe. Ten options follow in no particular order.

If you run vertical software, embedded finance is how you add accounts, cards and payouts for your users and earn on every transaction instead of sending them off to a bank. The hard part isn't the API. It's who holds the licence and who carries the compliance load.

The ten providers below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from each vendor's own website, read as of Oct 2026. This list is about the banking layer. For card acceptance on its own, my guide to payment gateways is the better fit.

Embedded finance and BaaS providers at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or an open source edition. Trial only means it names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.

Ten embedded finance and banking-as-a-service providers

Airwallex

Best for: Platforms that want programmatic account creation and onboarding, card issuing and global collection and payouts through one set of APIs.

ClearBank

Best for: Fintechs, acquirers and non-bank financial firms that want to hold and move money through a bank's own API, with embedded banking as one of three models.

Modern Treasury

Best for: Software companies that collect from customers and pay out to sellers, contractors or borrowers, and want programmatic accounts and ledgers behind it.

Railsr

Best for: Brands, sports clubs and venues wanting branded banking, wallets and embedded cards for fans or staff, with a real-money sandbox for prototyping first.

Rainforest

Best for: Vertical SaaS companies that want to take card, ACH and wallet payments for their users without becoming a payment facilitator themselves.

Solaris

Best for: European platforms that want checking, savings and sub-accounts on their own brand, plus cards, identity checks and consumer lending such as instalments.

Swan

Best for: SaaS products for property, HR or treasury that want to become the financial hub for their users with accounts, local IBANs and business cards.

Synctera

Best for: US fintechs and software companies building bank accounts and cards with a partner bank, backed by risk and compliance tooling and a Labs route to launch small.

Treasury Prime

Best for: Fintechs that want help finding the right bank for their program and room to grow across a network, plus banks that want the infrastructure to run it.

Treezor

Best for: European companies wanting white-label accounts, card issuing, SEPA transfers and KYC through an API, from a provider that now sits with Shares.

Consolidation is reshaping the banking-as-a-service layer

Here's what the vendor home pages say right now. Treezor's home page carries a banner saying it joins Shares to expand its banking offering. Synctera's news strip welcomes Cable to the family, and Cable now appears on its platform as automated compliance testing. Treasury Prime, meanwhile, calls itself the bank network behind embedded finance.

None of that is a reason to rule a provider out. But banking infrastructure is something you build on for years, so ask who owns the company and whether your bank partner could change before you sign.

Partner-bank networks or licensed European providers?

  • US partner-bank model. A technology platform connects you to one or more chartered banks that hold the deposits, and the model rests on matching each program to the right bank.
  • European licensed model. The provider holds its own licence or is itself a bank, so there's one fewer party in the chain. Swan, ClearBank and Solaris all sell embedded or white-label banking direct to software companies.
  • Embedded payments only. If you only need to take and send payments, a payments-focused provider is simpler than a full banking stack.

What to check before you embed accounts and cards

  1. Who holds the licence? Ask whether the provider is the bank, a regulated e-money firm or a technology layer over a partner bank.
  2. Which countries do you need? Local IBANs and SEPA matter in Europe; ACH matters in the US.
  3. What does compliance look like? KYC, KYB and transaction monitoring sit somewhere, and you want to know if that's you or them.
  4. Can you start small? Some providers now offer a sandbox or a route to launch with real customers before full volume.
  5. What's the revenue model? Card interchange and account features are the usual routes, so check what your contract lets you keep.

Your own company banking is a separate decision from what you embed for customers. My guide to online business banking accounts covers that side.

Do you make an embedded finance or banking-as-a-service platform? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on picking an embedded finance platform

Decide your geography first, because it cuts this list roughly in half in one step. Then write down the three things your users need most, usually an account, a card and a way to send money out, and ask each shortlisted provider to demo exactly those in a sandbox. Don't sign until you know who carries compliance and what happens if the bank partner changes.

If you'd rather have a team build it for you, my list of European fintech development vendors is a sensible next read.

Frequently asked questions

What is an embedded finance platform?

It's a provider that lets a non-bank company offer financial products such as accounts, cards, payments or lending inside its own app or software, using the provider's licence and infrastructure.

What's the difference between embedded finance and banking-as-a-service?

Banking-as-a-service is the infrastructure a licensed provider sells. Embedded finance is the result your users see, such as a card or account inside software they already use.

Do I need a banking licence to offer embedded finance?

Usually not. The provider or its partner bank holds the licence, and you work under their rules, which is why the compliance setup matters as much as the API.

Is embedded finance only for fintech companies?

No. Providers on this list sell to property, HR, health insurance and sports businesses as well as fintechs, because those platforms already sit where their users move money.

How long does it take to launch embedded banking?

It depends on the provider and your compliance review. Several now offer sandboxes or small launches with real customers, so you can test before a full rollout.
