Notion has four plans: Free at $0, Plus at $10 per member a month, Business at $20 per member a month and Enterprise on custom pricing, as of October 2026. For most small teams the choice is Plus or Business, and the deciding factor is whether you want Notion's AI tools, because those start at Business.
Here's the catch. The $10 and $20 are charged per member, and the things small teams tend to bump into aren't on the headline. AI is only a trial on Free and Plus, since Notion Agent and AI Meeting Notes start at Business. A custom domain for a published site costs extra on every plan. And Custom Agents run on Notion credits that you buy separately. These are Notion's US prices in dollars; UK, Australian and Canadian readers may see local numbers at checkout.
Notion plans side by side
This is how the four plans line up on Notion's pricing page, as of October 2026:
| Plan | Price per member a month | Page history | File upload limit | Forms | AI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 7 days | 5 MB per file | Basic | Trial |
| Plus | $10 | 30 days | 5 GB per file | Custom | Trial |
| Business | $20 | 90 days | 5 GB per file | Custom with conditional logic | Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | 5 GB per file | Custom with conditional logic | Zero data retention |
Notion labels Business as its Recommended plan and pitches it at growing businesses. Plus is aimed at small teams and professionals, and Free at individuals organising personal projects.
What each plan adds
Free
Free gives you a trial of Notion AI, basic forms, basic sites (you can publish a page to the web), Notion Calendar, and databases with subtasks, dependencies and custom properties. Files are capped at 5 MB each and page history goes back 7 days.
There's also a block rule worth knowing. A Free workspace used by one person can add unlimited pages and blocks. Add more members and a block limit kicks in. At that limit you can still read, edit and organise, but you can't add new blocks. The full rundown of the free tier is in my guide to whether Notion is free.
Plus
Plus is the small-team plan. On top of Free it adds custom forms (so you can remove Notion branding from public forms), custom sites with your own header, a light or dark theme, a custom favicon and Google Analytics, donut, bar and line charts, basic connections to tools such as Slack and Google Drive, and file uploads up to 5 GB each. Page history stretches to 30 days.
Business
Business is where Notion's AI comes in. It adds Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes (Notion says no bot is needed in the meeting), Enterprise Search in beta, SAML single sign-on, granular database permissions, a badge to verify any page, private teamspaces, domain verification and premium connections to tools such as GitHub and Asana. Forms get conditional logic, page history goes to 90 days, and page analytics move up to the advanced tier, which adds a list of who edited a page.
Enterprise
Enterprise adds zero data retention with the AI model providers, user provisioning through the SCIM API, advanced security and controls, an audit log, a customer success manager, SIEM and DLP connections, domain management and advanced connections. Page history is custom, and page analytics cover the whole workspace.
The extras that cost more
Two charges sit outside the per-member price, and both are easy to miss:
- Custom domains. Putting a published Notion site on your own domain, with your branding, costs $8 a month per domain paid annually, or $10 a month per domain paid monthly, as of October 2026. That's on every plan, Business included.
- Custom Agents. These are AI agents that handle repetitive tasks for you. Notion says they're free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits, as of October 2026. Workers, a beta feature for running custom code, also need Notion credits.
So if your plan is a published site on your own domain plus a couple of agents, budget for the plan, the domain and the credits, not just the seat price.
How Notion seats and billing work
Pricing is per member. A paid seat is one licence for one member, and if someone leaves you remove them, which frees the seat for the next person at no extra cost. Guests are free, but a guest can only open the individual pages you invite them to, so they're fine for a client or a freelancer who needs one project page, not for someone who works across your whole workspace.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Upgrading charges you straight away, reduced by the share of the billing cycle you've got left. Downgrading takes effect at the end of the billing cycle, so you keep the higher plan until then. Notion takes all major credit and debit cards, and subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, which you do from Settings in the left sidebar on desktop.
If a payment fails, Notion emails the account address after each failure and may retry the payment up to 8 times over the next month. After that the workspace is restricted to limited access for a period, then dropped to Free. So it's worth keeping the card on the account up to date.
Students and educators
Notion gives the Plus plan free to students and educators with a school email address, with a limit of one member. It isn't only .edu addresses: Notion says thousands of school email domains qualify. If that's you, read Notion for students before you pay for anything.
Choosing your plan in four steps
- Count the members who'll edit. Guests are free, so leave out anyone who only needs one page.
- Pick Plus if you want custom forms, charts and 30 days of page history. Go to Business only if you need Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes, single sign-on or 90 days of history.
- Add $8 or $10 per domain, as of October 2026, if you want a published site on your own domain.
- Remember the timing: an upgrade charges now and is prorated, a downgrade lands at the end of the billing cycle.
My verdict
If it's just you, Free is plenty, because a one-person workspace gets unlimited blocks. For a small team, Plus is the sensible step up: you get custom forms, charts, bigger uploads and a month of page history. Business is where the AI lives, so only pay the $20 a seat, as of October 2026, if your team will use Notion Agent or the meeting notes every week. Otherwise you're paying for features nobody opens. And if Notion's AI is the main draw, it's worth weighing up other AI workspace tools first.
