Yes. You can buy NFL Sunday Ticket on its own as a YouTube Primetime Channel and watch it in the regular YouTube app, with no YouTube TV plan at all. As of October 2026, YouTube charges new users $240 for the season and returning users $480, and the standalone version only covers out-of-market Sunday afternoon games on CBS and FOX.
That last part is the trade-off. Without YouTube TV you get the games outside your area, but not your local team's broadcast games or the big national ones. Whether that matters depends on how else you watch TV.
Standalone vs the YouTube TV add-on
YouTube sells Sunday Ticket two ways: as an add-on to an active YouTube TV plan, or as an individual Primetime Channel on YouTube. Here's what changes when you skip YouTube TV:
| Standalone on YouTube | Add-on to YouTube TV | |
|---|---|---|
| Needs a YouTube TV plan | No | Yes, an active plan |
| Out-of-market Sunday afternoon games | Yes | Yes |
| Your local CBS and FOX games | No | Yes, through your plan |
| National games such as Sunday Night Football | No | Yes, through your plan |
| Preseason and postseason | No | Yes, through your plan |
| Unlimited DVR | Yes, through the YouTube TV app | Yes |
For returning users the standalone channel costs more ($480 against $378 for the add-on), because the add-on assumes you're already paying for YouTube TV. All the prices, including the discounts, are in the NFL Sunday Ticket price guide.
What the standalone channel leaves out
YouTube's help page is specific. The Primetime Channel version doesn't include preseason games, postseason games, select regular season games, digital-exclusive games, locally televised games, or national games, and that includes international games. In plain terms, no Sunday Night Football, no Monday Night Football and no playoffs.
The local part catches people out most. If your team is playing on your local CBS or FOX station that Sunday, that game isn't in Sunday Ticket in your area. YouTube says that with Sunday Ticket through Primetime Channels, you won't have access to locally broadcast games with your subscription.
How to fill the gaps without YouTube TV
YouTube's own answer is more Primetime Channels. Each one adds a different slice of the schedule, and you can watch them inside YouTube alongside Sunday Ticket:
- Paramount+ for your local, in-market Sunday afternoon games on CBS.
- FOX One for your local, in-market Sunday afternoon games on FOX.
- Peacock for Sunday Night Football and local games on NBC.
YouTube also says you can put those locally broadcast games into multiview next to your Sunday Ticket games, directly on YouTube. If you're new to it, here's how multiview works. Or you can keep your current antenna or TV service for the local games and use YouTube just for the out-of-market ones.
How to sign up without YouTube TV
- On YouTube, go to Movies & TV and find NFL Sunday Ticket under Primetime Channels, or search for the NFL channel and select Sign Up.
- Choose the standalone option rather than the YouTube TV bundle, then pick your package and payment plan.
- On your TV, phone or computer, open the YouTube app or youtube.com and sign in with the account you bought it on.
- Verify your playback area if the app asks. Your location decides which games you're shown.
- Search for NFL, open the NFL's channel page and pick a live game, or select Notify me on a game that starts later.
On Sundays, games should also show up on your Home tab and Live tab. If you see prompts to Get NFL Sunday Ticket even though you've paid, check that you're signed in to the right account.
Yes, you still get DVR
This is the part that surprises people. YouTube says Sunday Ticket games can only be recorded in the YouTube TV app or website, but you don't need a YouTube TV subscription to do it. Standalone subscribers get unlimited DVR storage through YouTube TV. To set it up:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- On a computer or mobile browser, go to tv.youtube.com and select Sign in.
- On the Welcome to YouTube TV page, select Not now, and enter your ZIP code if asked.
- Search for NFL and open the NFL league page.
- Add the NFL to your library and choose to record all games available to you or just certain teams.
From then on, current and future games you're entitled to are recorded, and you can watch them on any device where you can sign in to YouTube TV. Missed a game and didn't record it? Every game in your subscription is also posted as a 45-minute condensed replay on the NFL's channel, uploaded by midnight Eastern time and available until 11:59 PM the following Wednesday.
Streams, sharing and ads
- Streams: no limit at home, and up to 2 streams outside your home.
- Family sharing: share with up to 5 other people in your Google family group at no extra cost. A Google Workspace account can't start a family group.
- Ads: YouTube Premium's ad-free viewing doesn't apply to Primetime Channels, so you'll still see ads in normal commercial breaks.
- Internet speed: YouTube says at least 3 Mbps, and it recommends 7 Mbps or more for better quality.
YouTube recommends watching in the YouTube app on your TV, though the YouTube TV app works too. If you're curious how Primetime Channels fit together in general, here's what YouTube Primetime is.
My verdict
Go standalone if it's your first season, if you already get your local channels some other way, and if you mainly follow a team that plays outside your area. You pay the same $240 as a new user either way, and you still get DVR. If you're a returning user who wants every game in one app, the YouTube TV add-on is the better fit, and it's cheaper for Sunday Ticket itself. Just remember that you can't swap between the two mid-season, so choose before you buy.
