Sell on Depop if you're based in the US, UK or Australia and want to keep more of each sale: there's no Depop selling fee there, and US sellers pay Stripe payment processing of 3.3% + $0.45 instead. Sell on Poshmark if you're in the US or Canada and want one simple commission of 20% with a $2.95 minimum fee, plus free authentication on items of $500 or more.
Depop's big promise is zero selling fees, and Poshmark's is a single commission with nothing stacked on top, so on paper they look like opposites. I went through Depop's help centre articles on fees and getting paid and Poshmark's own pages, and every figure below is what the two companies state as of October 2026. The gap is smaller than the headlines suggest once you read the small print.

How Depop's zero selling fee works
Depop's fee table says no Depop selling fee is charged to sellers based in the UK, the US or Australia. What you do pay is payment processing through Depop Payments, which runs on Stripe. In the US that's 3.3% + $0.45, in the UK 2.9% + £0.30 and in Australia 2.6% + $0.30 in Australian dollars. The detail people skim past is the base: Depop charges that processing fee on the item sale price plus shipping costs and any applicable taxes, not on the item price alone.
Boosted Listings are the other cost, and they're optional. Depop's help centre lists the boosting fee at 12% for sellers in the UK and US and 8% everywhere else, charged on the item price (excluding taxes) and on the shipping cost if you haven't used a Depop shipping label. If a sale is refunded, Depop reverses all of it automatically for Depop Payments sales: the selling fee, the processing fee and the boosting fee.
Selling from anywhere else changes the picture. Sellers outside the UK, US and Australia pay a 10% Depop selling fee on all sales, plus PayPal's own processing fee, which varies with your location and PayPal account. For bundles, sellers outside the UK or US pay the selling fee on each item, while the processing fee is charged once per bundle.
Poshmark's commission and Posh Protect
Poshmark's own pages show a 20% commission with a $2.95 minimum fee for US sellers, and the lowest selling price is $3. In Canada it's still 20%, with a $3.95 minimum fee and a $5 minimum selling price. That's the whole seller cost to plan around, which makes pricing simple: decide what you want to walk away with and work back from the commission.
Posh Protect is where Poshmark earns its keep with buyers. A buyer has 72 hours after delivery to open a return case for undisclosed damage, a wrong or missing item, an item not as described, an item that isn't authentic, or an order that never arrived. If no case is opened within 3 days of delivery, Poshmark releases payment to the seller automatically, and approved returns have to ship back within 5 days. Here's the part sellers like: an item that doesn't fit, or a buyer who's changed their mind, isn't covered. Trades and deals done off Poshmark aren't covered either.
Through Posh Authenticate, Poshmark offers free authentication and free shipping on items of $500 or more ($700 in Canada), which matters if you sell designer bags or shoes. Its about page puts the scale at $8B earned by sellers to date, 130M+ community members across the US and Canada, 350M+ items sold and 10K+ brands across 90+ categories.
The catch: flat amounts hit low-priced items hardest
Both apps carry a flat amount, and that's what people miss. On Depop it's the $0.45 added to every US order on top of the 3.3%, and the percentage also applies to shipping and tax. On Poshmark it's the $2.95 minimum fee, which kicks in whenever 20% of the sale would come to less. So on low-priced pieces the flat amounts eat a bigger share of what you take home on both apps, and on higher-priced pieces the percentage does the damage, which is where Depop's 3.3% looks far lighter than Poshmark's 20%.
Getting paid on each app
Depop pays US sellers into their Depop Balance 2 business days after the item shows as delivered, or 10 business days after the sale, whichever comes first. Money still pending isn't available until the item is delivered, and once you withdraw, it can take up to 5 days to show in your bank account. You'll need a valid bank account and you may be asked for extra identity checks, and if you're under 18 a parent or guardian has to verify their details for you. Depop partners with Stripe for money transmission, with funds held at Fifth Third Bank, Member FDIC.
On Poshmark, the buyer accepting the order releases payment to you. If they don't accept it and don't open a case, the money is released automatically 3 days after delivery.

Which app suits which kind of seller
- Higher-priced vintage or designer pieces in the US: Depop, because a 3.3% processing fee keeps more of a big sale with you than a 20% commission.
- Designer items worth $500 or more: Poshmark, where Posh Authenticate gives the buyer free authentication and free shipping.
- Sellers in Canada: compare Depop's 10% plus PayPal against Poshmark's 20% with its $3.95 minimum fee before you list.
- Anyone who wants fewer fit returns: Poshmark, since Posh Protect doesn't cover items that don't fit or a changed mind.
- Sellers who like to promote listings: Depop, as long as you price in the 12% boosting fee on boosted sales.

My advice for Depop and Poshmark sellers
If you're in the US, UK or Australia and you sell anything above a few dollars, Depop usually leaves more in your pocket, because it doesn't take a selling fee. Poshmark makes sense when you want one predictable commission, free authentication for designer pieces and protection from fit returns. Plenty of sellers list the same pieces on both and simply move each item to wherever it sells first.
