Ebook Creator Tools (2026): 10 Ways to Make an Ebook

An ebook creator turns your writing into a finished digital book, whether that's a PDF lead magnet, an EPUB you sell in online stores or an interactive flipbook. The right one depends on the format you need, because most tools are built for one of those jobs. Ten tools follow in no particular order.

Ebooks are still one of the easiest ways to turn what you know into a lead magnet or a small product. Writing is the hard part. Making it look good and getting it into the right format is where most people lose a weekend.

The ten tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. I read each one's own website this week, as of Oct 2026. If you're making the ebook to grow your list, my guide to interactive lead magnets for small businesses is worth reading first.

Ebook creators side by side

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, free use or free to start. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the tool's own site before you sign up.

Ten ebook creators, from lead magnets to books

Beacon

Best for: Marketers and coaches who want ebooks and workbooks as lead magnets, with lead capture forms and a resource library builder from the same maker.

Calibre

Best for: Authors with a pile of ebook files to organise and convert, using e-book management software you download and run on your own computer.

Designrr

Best for: Content creators who'd rather repurpose what they've already written, since it says it turns your content into ebooks, Kindle books, lead magnets and flipbooks.

Draft2Digital

Best for: Self-publishing authors looking for a formatting and distribution service, from a company whose site also links to its Books2Read service.

Flipsnack

Best for: Brands that want an ebook as a polished flipbook they can make, brand, share and track, with a free trial before you pay.

Issuu

Best for: Publishers and businesses that want to turn any piece of content into a page-turning interactive flipbook on a digital publishing platform.

Kotobee

Best for: Anyone who needs an interactive ebook rather than a flat PDF, with a 30-day free trial and sign-up through a Google account.

Pressbooks

Best for: Authors, schools and teams publishing digital books or open educational resources, with plans for self-publishers as well as enterprise networks.

Publuu

Best for: Businesses embedding ebooks on their own website, with custom branding, interactive elements, document protection and reader analytics, plus a free trial.

Reedsy Studio

Best for: Writers who want to plan, draft, edit and format a book in one app, where the core writing and formatting features are completely free.

Which ebook tool for which job

  • You want a lead magnet that grows your list: Beacon or Designrr.
  • You're writing a book to sell: Reedsy Studio, then Draft2Digital.
  • You need to convert or tidy existing ebook files: Calibre.
  • You want a page-turning flipbook: Flipsnack, Issuu or Publuu.
  • You need interactive content: Kotobee.

Pick the format before the tool

Some tools make a PDF lead magnet, some make an EPUB you can sell, and some only convert files from one format to another. Decide what the reader gets first. A free download for your email list can be a PDF. A book on sale in online stores usually needs an EPUB. A brochure-style read on your site suits a flipbook.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Readers who skim long guides often use PDF summarizers.

Your ebook is yours from the moment you write it

The U.S. Copyright Office explains that a work is fixed when it's captured in a sufficiently permanent medium, for example when you write it down or record it (U.S. Copyright Office, read 28 Oct 2026).

So the words are yours the moment they're on the page. Choose a tool that lets you export your file in a standard format, and keep your own master copy outside the app. If you ever stop paying for a tool, you shouldn't lose the book with it.

Once the ebook is done, book mockups make a cover that shows off well.

Four checks before you share your ebook

  1. Export a test file early and open it on a phone, a tablet and a laptop.
  2. Keep your master copy in a plain document you control.
  3. End with one clear next step, whether that's your newsletter, a call or your next product.
  4. Click every link in the ebook after export to make sure it still works.

Do you make ebook creators, flipbook makers or digital publishing software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on choosing an ebook creator

Write first, design second. Get the words right in whatever app you like, then pick the tool that matches the format your reader needs. For a lead magnet, keep it short and useful. For a book you sell, use a tool built for publishing. And always keep a copy of your file that doesn't depend on any one app.

If you're weighing an ebook against other lead magnets, my guide to an AI lead magnet calculator for small businesses shows another format worth comparing.
