A GED app gives you lessons, practice questions and mock tests for the four GED subjects, so you can study for your high school equivalency credential on your phone, at your own pace. Some are completely free, one is the official app and others start with a trial. Ten apps follow, in no particular order.
Most people taking the GED are adults fitting study around work and family, often years after they last sat in a classroom. That's exactly where a phone app helps: ten minutes on a break adds up when you do it every day.
The apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and each description comes from the provider's own App Store listing, read this week. For more ways to study without paying for a course, my guide on how to find free exam study materials is a good companion.
GED apps at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each provider's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the listing names a free version, a free tier, free lessons or tests, or a free daily set of questions. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the listing I read named neither, even where there's a download button, so check the provider's own page before you subscribe.

What GED Testing Service says about the four subjects
GED Testing Service says the GED test is made up of 4 subjects, broken into separate exams. You don't have to take all 4 at once: you can space them out however suits you and go at your own pace.
The Mathematical Reasoning test alone takes 115 minutes, including a short break between its two parts, and there's an onscreen calculator on part 2 along with a formula sheet. GED.com also offers free preview tests in each subject, and it says those previews are 25% the length of the real exam.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Why one subject at a time works better
Because each subject is its own exam, you don't have to master everything before you test. Plenty of learners pick the subject they feel strongest in, pass it, and use that win to keep going.
Study one subject in the app until your practice scores are steady, take that test, then move on. It turns one big, scary goal into four smaller ones you can tick off.
If multiplication is the weak spot, apps that drill times tables can help with the basics.
A simple plan for each subject
- Take the free GED.com preview test for the subject to see where you stand.
- Spend two to three weeks on daily practice in your chosen app, focusing on the topics you miss.
- Take a full practice test, such as GED Ready, the official practice test.
- Book that subject's exam, then repeat the plan for the next one.

Four things to check in a GED app
- All four subjects. Check the app covers maths, reasoning through language arts, social studies and science.
- Explanations. You need to see why an answer is right, especially in maths.
- Free practice. Several apps here are free or have a free daily set of questions.
- Ads. Free apps may show adverts, so look for an ad-free option if they distract you.
Do you make GED prep, adult education or study apps? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on GED apps
Start with the free GED.com preview tests, then pick one app and study one subject at a time. Book each test once your practice scores are steady, and don't let the size of the whole goal put you off: four smaller exams is a much kinder way to get there.
If writing is your weak spot, these AI writing tools that help students study smarter can help you practise explaining your answers.
