The limit that matters: storage, not transcription
Unlimited transcription sounds like the whole story, but the free plan's storage is 400 minutes per team. That's under seven hours of meetings for everyone on the team combined, or about thirteen 30-minute calls. If you record a few meetings a week, storage is the ceiling you'll meet, not transcription. Pro raises it to 8,000 minutes per seat and Business makes it unlimited.
The other big gap is exporting. Downloading transcripts, summaries and recordings is listed under Pro, along with video recording, so on the free plan your notes live inside Fireflies.

How seats are counted
Fireflies's FAQ says anyone you add to your Fireflies workspace counts as a seat, and paid plans are charged per seat. You can share an individual meeting recap link with participants or other people without adding them to your team, free of charge. So a small business can often get away with one paid seat and shared links. For scale, Pro's 8,000 minutes of storage per seat is more than 130 hours of meetings for each person.

- A small team with weekly meetings: storage runs out first, so one Pro seat with shared recap links is the cheapest fix.
- A sales team: Business adds conversation intelligence and team analytics, which is what sales managers tend to want.
- A regulated business: Enterprise is where HIPAA compliance, private storage and custom data retention appear.

My verdict: is Fireflies AI free?
Yes, and it's useful for occasional meetings. Just plan around the 400 minutes of team storage and the fact that you can't download transcripts on the free plan. If you record weekly calls and need to keep or export notes, Pro at $10 per seat a month billed annually, or $18 monthly, as of October 2026 is the sensible upgrade, and one paid seat plus shared recap links often covers a small team.
