An AI Overview tracker checks which of your target searches show a Google AI Overview, then records whether your brand is named, your page is linked, or a competitor holds the spot instead. Some live inside a rank tracker, others focus only on AI answers. Ten options follow, in no particular order.
Ranking first on Google doesn't mean what it used to when an AI summary sits above the results. You can hold the top organic spot and still be missing from the answer most people read.
That's why AI Overview tracking has become its own category. The tools below check your keywords, record when an AI Overview appears and show whether you're cited, with some adding AI Mode, ChatGPT and other answer engines. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and each description comes from the tool's own website, read this week. For the groundwork behind being included, my guide on how to appear in Google AI Overviews covers the content side.
AI Overview trackers side by side
I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site names the tool, an account or a plan or version of it as free, or says it's open source. Trial only means a time-limited trial or a small free allowance. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start, so check the tool's own page before you sign up.

What Search Console shows, and what it doesn't
Google Search Central says sites appearing in AI features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode are included in the overall search traffic in Search Console. They're reported in the Performance report, within the Web search type.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
So the clicks are counted, but they're blended with ordinary results. Search Console won't tell you which keywords triggered an AI Overview or whether your brand was named in it. That's the gap these trackers fill, and it's why many teams use one alongside Search Console rather than instead of it.
Build a keyword set worth tracking
- Start with questions your customers ask, not just short head terms.
- Include comparison and how-to searches, which often trigger AI answers.
- Add your brand name plus the category you sell in.
- Track a handful of competitor brand searches too.
- Review and prune the list every quarter.
Rank trackers with AI layers versus dedicated AI trackers
Many familiar rank trackers have added AI Overview tracking to the keywords you already monitor. That's convenient if you want one report showing organic positions and AI appearances side by side, and it keeps your history in one place.
Dedicated AI trackers start from the answer instead. They show who is named, which sources are linked and how often a brand appears across a set of prompts, sometimes across several AI platforms. Pick the first if rankings are still your main report, and the second if AI answers are what your boss or client is asking about.
Tracking mistakes that waste a month
- Tracking only branded terms. You'll miss where buyers search.
- Checking once and stopping. AI Overviews change often.
- Ignoring which pages get linked. That's your content clue.
- Reporting mentions without context. Note who else is named.
A neighbouring list is in our roundup of generative engine optimization tools.
Signs your tracking is paying off
- You know which searches trigger AI answers.
- You can name the competitors cited instead of you.
- New content wins mentions you didn't have.
- Reports explain changes, not just numbers.

My plain advice on AI Overview trackers
Choose a tracker that fits the report you already send. If your clients or managers read rank reports, add AI Overview tracking to the tool you use. If the question in the room is how often AI names your brand, a dedicated tracker will answer it more directly.
Whichever you pick, track real customer questions, review the results monthly and use the linked pages as a guide for what to write next. My AI search visibility cheat sheet lists the content changes that tend to help.
Frequently asked questions
What is an AI Overview tracker?
A tool that checks which searches show a Google AI Overview and whether your brand or pages appear in it.
Does Search Console show AI Overview data?
Search Console includes AI Overview traffic in the Performance report under Web, but it doesn't separate it out.
Is there a free AI Overview tracker?
One tool on this list names a free checker and several offer a trial, so check the table.
Can these tools track AI Mode and ChatGPT too?
Some trackers on this list also cover AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI platforms alongside AI Overviews.
How often should I check AI Overviews?
Weekly or monthly tracking works for most sites, because AI answers shift as Google updates them.
Why isn't my page in the AI Overview when it ranks?
AI Overviews cite sources they find most useful for the answer, so ranking alone doesn't guarantee a mention.
