Free Jeopardy Game Makers (2026): 9 Tools Compared

A Jeopardy maker gives you a board of categories and point values, plus somewhere to type each clue and answer, so you can run the game on a screen. Some are simple online templates, some add buzzers and scoring and some write the clues for you with AI. Nine options follow in no particular order.

Friday afternoon review lessons, team training days and pub trivia nights have one thing in common. Everyone wants a game that feels like a TV quiz show, and nobody wants to spend two hours building it in slides.

The nine tools below cover quick online templates, classroom review tools, trivia software and AI generators. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. If your quiz is part of a team day, my team building activities that don't feel forced fill the rest of the agenda.

Jeopardy-style game makers at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website or store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page says the tool, or a plan, account or version of it, is free. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to try it, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

The format is free to use, the name isn't yours

The U.S. Copyright Office says copyright law excludes any idea, procedure, process, system or method of operation, and that words and short phrases such as names, titles and slogans aren't copyrightable.

So the answer-and-question format, the board and the point values are ideas anyone can use in a classroom or an office. The show's name and logo are a different matter, because a name can still be protected as a trade mark even when copyright doesn't cover it. For a lesson, nobody minds. If you're running a ticketed trivia night or selling a game pack, give your game its own name.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Template, classroom tool or AI generator?

A simple template gives you the board and nothing else. It's quick, and you write every clue yourself.

A classroom or trivia tool adds buzzers, teams, scoring and game modes, which matters once more than a handful of people are playing.

An AI generator drafts categories and clues from a topic or standard. It saves time, but check every answer, because a wrong clue in front of a class is hard to take back.

Six steps to a board that plays well

  1. Pick five or six categories with clear titles.
  2. Write the easiest clue for the lowest value.
  3. Make every answer short and checkable.
  4. Add one picture clue per category.
  5. Test the board on one person first.
  6. Keep a tie-break question ready.

Signs a clue needs rewriting

  • Two answers fit. Narrow it down.
  • It takes a paragraph. Cut it to one line.
  • Only one person could know it. Make it fairer.
  • The answer is in the category name. Rename it.

My plain advice on running a quiz game

Spend your effort on the clues, not the board. A plain board with sharp, fair clues beats a flashy one with vague questions every time. Write a few extra clues for each category so you can swap one out if a team finds it too easy.

If you'd rather turn your notes into questions automatically, my guide to AI flashcard and quiz makers that work from your notes shows how.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a Jeopardy game for free?

Use a free online template, type your categories, clues and answers, then run it full screen on a projector or shared screen.

Can I make a Jeopardy game without PowerPoint?

Yes. Online game makers run in a browser and need no slides.

Can students buzz in from their own devices?

Some game makers include virtual buzzers so players can buzz in on phones or laptops.

Can AI write Jeopardy questions?

Yes. AI tools can draft categories and clues from a topic, but check every answer before you play.

Is it legal to make a Jeopardy-style game?

The game format is an idea anyone can use. The show's name and logo can be protected as trade marks, so use your own name for anything public.

How many categories should a board have?

Five or six categories with five clues each keeps a game to about half an hour.
