Facebook Plus: What the Subscription Includes, Who Can Get It and How Billing Works

Facebook Plus is a paid monthly subscription from Meta that adds extra features to the Facebook and Messenger mobile apps, mostly around stories: 48-hour stories, story previews, rewatch insights, super reactions and a custom app icon. Meta says it's in limited testing, available only on iPhone and Android, and not offered in every country yet.

It isn't Meta Verified, it doesn't add a badge, and it doesn't remove ads. It's a features pack for people who post and watch a lot of stories. If you've seen a Facebook Plus offer in your app, here's what you'd get and what to check before you tap subscribe.

What Facebook Plus includes

Meta lists six benefits on its About Facebook Plus page. They apply on both the Facebook and Messenger apps, because your Facebook profile is what you use to get into Messenger.

BenefitWhat it doesWho it helps most
Longer storiesYour Facebook story can last 48 hours instead of the standard 24Anyone whose audience is spread across time zones
Super reactionsAnimated reactions you send on friends' storiesHeavy story watchers
Custom app iconChange the Facebook or Messenger icon on your phonePersonal preference only
Search your viewer listA search bar on your story viewer listCreators and Pages with long viewer lists
Rewatch insightsThe number of unique people who rewatched your story more than onceAnyone testing what holds attention
Story previewsA mini preview of stories before you watch, without appearing on the viewer listWatchers who want to check a story quietly

Meta adds that benefits and availability may vary by region and account, and that the benefits available to you are shown during onboarding before you subscribe. So the list above is the full menu, not a promise that every account sees every item.

The catch most people miss: previews change your viewer list

The preview feature works both ways. A Facebook Plus subscriber can preview your story without appearing on your viewer list. Meta says that if people preview your story without being recorded, you may see a notice telling you that previews can happen without being recorded on the viewer list.

That matters if you read your viewer list as proof of who saw something. For a business Page or a creator, the list was never a full count of attention, and with Plus in the mix it's even less complete. If you're trying to understand what the Others line in Facebook story views means, treat the named list as a sample, not a census.

Who can subscribe

To subscribe, Meta says you must be located in a country where Facebook Plus is available, have an eligible profile, and agree to the Meta Subscription Terms of Service while following the Meta Terms of Service and Community Standards.

  • Eligible profile types: a Facebook profile, a profile with professional mode turned on, or a Messenger account without Facebook.
  • One profile per Accounts Center: if you have several Facebook profiles in the same Accounts Center, only one of them can hold a Facebook Plus subscription.
  • Benefits don't spread: they only apply to the profile that bought the subscription, not to your other profiles.
  • Phone only: you can only subscribe on the Facebook or Messenger app for iPhone or Android. It isn't available on computers.

Before you subscribe: a quick checklist

  1. Use the Facebook or Messenger app on your phone. Meta only offers Facebook Plus on the mobile apps.
  2. Pick the right profile. Only one profile in your Accounts Center can hold the subscription, and the benefits stay on that profile.
  3. Read the benefits shown during onboarding. Meta says that screen shows the benefits available to you.
  4. Note which store you're paying through, Apple's App Store or Google Play, because that's where you'll manage and cancel it.
  5. Write down your renewal date. You're charged on the same date each month.

How billing, renewals and cancelling work

Facebook Plus is billed through the app store you subscribe in, not through Meta directly. Meta's billing page for its subscriptions spells out the rules:

QuestionWhat Meta says
How often am I charged?Every month, on the same date as your original purchase, until you cancel
What if my date doesn't exist in a month? You're charged on the last day of that month instead
How do I pay? With the payment methods your App Store or Google Play account accepts
Where do I change my card?In the store where you subscribed; changes apply from your next billing cycle
What if a payment fails?A backup method is charged if you have one; without one you may get a short grace period before the subscription is cancelled
What happens when I cancel? The subscription stays active until the end of your billing cycle, then the benefits stop

One practical point: your subscription is tied to the platform, device type and account you used. If you subscribed on an iPhone with one Apple account, you'll only see the payment history while signed in to that same Apple account. Cancel before your current billing period ends if you don't want another month.

The same idea exists on WhatsApp, and our WhatsApp Plus subscription guide explains what you get and how to cancel.

Facebook Plus vs other Meta subscriptions

Meta now runs a family of subscriptions, and its billing page lists them side by side: Meta One, Meta Verified for creators and businesses, Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, Edits Plus and Muse. They're separate products with separate cancellation routes.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

  • Facebook Plus is about features, mainly stories, on Facebook and Messenger.
  • Meta Verified is the one with the badge and account support. If that's what you're after, see what Meta Verified costs and what you get.
  • The ad-free subscription in the EU and UK is a different product again. Facebook Plus doesn't promise fewer ads.

Meta's help pages don't list a Facebook Plus price, and with the product in limited testing it may differ by country. The price you'll pay is the one shown in your app store before you confirm.

Meta sells other subscriptions too, and our guide to the ad-free subscription explains the price, who can get it and what it does to your ads.

My verdict

Facebook Plus is a small, story-focused add-on, not a status upgrade. If you post stories daily, the 48-hour stories and rewatch insights are useful, and the searchable viewer list saves time on a busy Page. If you mainly scroll, the only benefit you'd notice is quiet previews. Before you pay for it, check your Facebook story privacy settings too, because who can see a story still matters more than how long it stays up.

Frequently asked questions

What is Facebook Plus?

It's a paid monthly subscription from Meta that adds extra features to the Facebook and Messenger mobile apps, such as 48-hour stories, story previews, rewatch insights, super reactions and a custom app icon.

Is Facebook Plus available everywhere?

No. Meta says Facebook Plus is in limited testing, isn't available in all locations yet, and only works on the Facebook and Messenger mobile apps for iPhone and Android.

Does Facebook Plus remove ads or give a blue badge?

No. Meta Verified is the subscription with the badge, and the ad-free subscription is a separate product. Facebook Plus focuses on story and app features.

Can people see my story without showing on my viewer list?

Yes, if they subscribe to Facebook Plus. Story previews let subscribers see a mini preview without appearing on the viewer list, and Meta may show you a notice that this can happen.

How do I cancel Facebook Plus?

Cancel through the App Store or Google Play account you subscribed with. The subscription stays active until the end of your billing cycle, then the benefits stop.
