Meta's ad-free subscription, which it calls a subscription for no ads, lets you use Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp without ads for a monthly fee, and it's only available in the European Region and the United Kingdom. As of October 2026, Meta's help page lists €5.99 a month for one account on the web and €7.99 a month in the Apple or Google app stores, with extra charges for more accounts in the same Accounts Center.
The catch for business owners and creators: subscribing limits what you can do with ads. Meta says that once you subscribe you can't run ads or boost posts for your Facebook profile or an Instagram account, can't join partnership ads, and can't earn through content monetisation on your Facebook profile until you switch back.
What the subscription costs
These are the prices Meta's help page shows, in euros, as of October 2026. Meta adds that prices may vary slightly and are shown in local currency where that applies, so UK subscribers see their own price when they sign up.
| Where you subscribe | First account | Each extra account in the same Accounts Center |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook.com or Instagram.com | €5.99 per month | €4 per month |
| In app, through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store | €7.99 per month | €5 per month |
Meta says you're only charged for accounts on apps where it currently shows ads, but the choice applies to every account in that Accounts Center. Payments are monthly until you cancel, and you need to cancel at least 24 hours before your next payment date.
What you get
- No ads on your Facebook, Instagram, Threads or WhatsApp accounts that are in the same Accounts Center.
- Your information isn't used for ads while you're subscribed.
- It works on Meta's websites and apps, wherever you bought it.
- Feed, Stories, Reels, chats and calls all carry on as normal.
Two things you'll still see: posts, messages and branded content from businesses and creators you follow. And some ad settings disappear, because they're no longer relevant. Meta says ads stop within 24 hours or after you restart the app, and Facebook Lite users should close the app for at least 10 minutes.
How to subscribe
- Make sure you're in the EU or UK. The option doesn't appear anywhere else.
- Open Ad preferences in Accounts Center from your Facebook or Instagram settings. Meta says that's where the subscription is managed.
- Choose to subscribe to use Meta's products without ads, rather than using them free of charge with ads.
- Pick the accounts to include and confirm payment on the web, or through the Apple App Store or Google Play in the app.
If you'd rather not pay, Meta's alternative in the EU, EEA and Switzerland is to keep the free version and switch between personalised and less-personalised ads. Outside those regions, the closest options are the ad controls covered in our guide to Off-Facebook activity.
What it does to your ads and income
According to Meta, if you subscribe, or choose less-personalised ads, these stop working for your account:
| Feature | With the subscription |
|---|---|
| Ads and boosts for your Facebook profile (including boosting your own Facebook Marketplace listings) | Not available |
| Ads and boosts for an Instagram account | Not available |
| Ads for a Page linked to an Instagram, WhatsApp or Threads account that's subscribed | Not available |
| Partnership ads on Instagram or your Facebook profile | Not available |
| Content monetisation on your Facebook profile | Not available |
| Ads for a Facebook Page or Instagram account that isn't subscribed or linked to one that is | Still available |
| Subscriptions for your fans, Instagram gifts and Facebook Stars | Still available |
Any of those ads already running when you subscribe are switched off until you change your choice back. Meta says you're paid for creator revenue earned up to the point you subscribed. If you sell to fans through subscriptions, our explainer on how Instagram subscriptions work for creators covers the feature that stays open.
Cancelling, refunds and moving country
- Cancel through the platform where you bought it: Meta Pay, Apple or Google. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period.
- To restore ad features early, Meta says you may cancel and ask for a refund within 14 days of starting the subscription.
- Bought in the app? You must be signed into the same Apple ID or Google account to cancel or change it.
- Moving between the EU and UK keeps your subscription at your old price until you cancel and re-subscribe.
- Moving outside the EU or UK cancels it automatically if you bought on the web or Android.
My verdict
For someone who only scrolls, it's a straightforward trade: pay monthly, see no ads. For anyone who boosts posts, runs partnership ads or earns from a Facebook profile, it's a bad swap, because it switches those features off. Subscribe from the web rather than the app if you do want it, as Meta's own figures show the web price is lower.
