Three. A YouTube TV membership lets you watch on up to 3 devices at the same time, shared across up to 6 household accounts. If you need more screens at home, the 4K Plus add-on, $9.99 a month as of October 2026, allows unlimited streams at home.
The two numbers get mixed up all the time. Six is how many people can have their own account. Three is how many screens can play at once. A family of six can all use YouTube TV, just not all at the same moment.
Accounts versus streams
| Limit | What it means | Where YouTube TV says it |
|---|---|---|
| 6 accounts | Up to 6 people in your household each get their own login, recommendations and DVR library | Plans page and family group help |
| 3 streams | Up to 3 devices can play YouTube TV at the same time | What is YouTube TV? help page |
| Unlimited at home | With 4K Plus, as many compatible screens as you like in your home | Plans page FAQ |
Every YouTube TV plan works the same way here. YouTube TV's plans help page says concurrent stream limits apply to all its plans, and its Sports Plan page says that plan has the same streaming limits as the others.
How YouTube TV counts devices
YouTube TV gives one example on its help page: watching on a computer and a mobile device at the same time counts as two of the three available devices. So each screen counts, whoever is signed in on it. Two family members watching on two phones and a third watching the TV is the full allowance.
Family group members share the same three. YouTube TV's family help page says members can watch on up to three separate devices at the same time, so the limit is for the whole household, not per person.
How to get more than 3 streams
- Go to tv.youtube.com on a web browser and sign in.
- Select your profile photo, then Settings, then Membership.
- Select ADD next to 4K Plus and select Purchase.
YouTube TV says 4K Plus gives you unlimited simultaneous streams at home, the ability to watch recordings offline on a phone or tablet, and 4K on select content. It describes the unlimited streams as being at home, so don't count on it for screens away from home. More on what else it adds is in my YouTube TV 4K guide.
The household rule behind the limit
YouTube TV's sharing is built for one home. Its help page says the family manager sets the home area, and each family member must primarily live in the same household. Members need to use YouTube TV in that home location from time to time to keep access, and you can only switch family groups once every 12 months.
So sharing with a relative across the country isn't how it's designed, and it's not a way around the stream limit. The steps to invite people the right way are in how to add family members to YouTube TV.
If someone leaves or the family cancels
YouTube TV's family help page covers both. A member who leaves the family group can accept an invitation to a different group or create their own, within that once-every-12-months limit. And if the family manager cancels the membership, each member can sign up for an individual membership with their own Google Account after leaving the group, which gives them their own three streams.
The rest of the plan rules are in my page on the YouTube TV plan rules.

Does multiview count as more than one stream?
YouTube TV's pages describe multiview as watching up to 4 games at once on one screen, and they list it alongside the stream limit as a separate feature. They don't say it uses extra streams. If you're close to your limit on game day, test it on your setup first. My guide on multiview on YouTube TV shows how to start it.
If you see a too-many-devices message
- Ask who else is watching and close YouTube TV on a device that's sitting idle.
- Check nobody outside your household is signed in on your membership.
- Add 4K Plus if three screens at home is a regular squeeze.
My verdict
Three streams is plenty for most couples and small families, and the 6 accounts keep everyone's recordings separate. If you're a household of four or more who all watch in the evening, budget for 4K Plus, because it's the only official way past the three-screen limit.
Adding a new device is covered in my guide to setting up YouTube TV.
