Snapchat Ads Manager is where businesses create, budget and track paid ads on Snapchat. As of October 2026, Snap says the minimum spend is $5 a day, but it recommends at least $20 to $50 a day so your ad can get through its Exploration Phase, the learning period that typically lasts 4 days or more.
That gap between the minimum and the recommendation is the most useful thing to know before you start. Spend the bare minimum and your ad may never learn who to show itself to. Spend in Snap's recommended range and the system can work out your best audience faster.
All of the figures below come from Snap's own Snapchat for Business pages, read in October 2026, and they're in US dollars because that's how Snap states them.
What you can do in Snapchat Ads Manager
Snap describes three things you control: the objective, the budget and the timing. You pick an objective that matches your goal, set daily or lifetime spend limits, and start or stop your ads whenever you like. When you set up an ad, Snap shows estimates of reach and results for the amount you want to spend, so you can adjust before you commit.
Snap also offers a lighter option called Promote, for boosting a Snap you've already posted. More on that below, because it's the easiest way to test the waters.
Snapchat Ads budget rules, as of October 2026
| Rule | What Snap says |
|---|---|
| Minimum daily spend | $5 a day |
| Recommended daily spend | At least $20 to $50 a day |
| Why the recommendation | To help the ad complete the Exploration Phase, when the system learns who in your audience is most likely to act |
| How long Exploration lasts | Typically 4 days or more, depending on your objective |
| Spend limits | Daily and lifetime limits you set yourself |
| Stopping | Start and stop ads any time |
Snap says that over time it prioritises the ads that perform best. In plain terms: give a new ad enough budget and enough days before you judge it, then let the winners take more of the spend.
The first-ad credit for new advertisers
New advertisers get an introductory credit. On its advertising page, Snap says you can get $375 in ad credit when you spend $350 on your first Snapchat ad, or $75 in ad credit when you spend $50. Snap's pricing page repeats the $75 for $50 offer. Terms and conditions apply, so read them on Snap's page before you rely on the credit for a launch.
If you're testing Snapchat for the first time, the smaller offer lines up neatly with Snap's own advice: a few days at a modest daily budget gives you a real read on whether your audience is there.
How to promote a Snap without building a full campaign
If you just want more views on something you've posted, Snap's Promote feature is the quickest route. These are Snap's steps:
- Create a Public Profile if you don't already have one. Snap says this is free.
- Create a post on your Public Profile.
- Once the post is live, tap the Promote button in the top-right corner.
- Follow the prompts to choose your goal and spend, then launch.
Snap says Promote can get you more views, followers and clicks from a Snap than you'd get otherwise. If you haven't set up a profile yet, my guide on how to make a public profile on Snapchat walks through it, including why some accounts don't see the option.
Can you advertise on Snapchat for free?
Partly. Snap says it's free to create a Public Profile, and you can use it to feature your business, build a following and sell products. Paid ads cost whatever you choose to spend above the daily minimum. So the free route is organic posting on a Public Profile, and Promote or Ads Manager is the paid one.
How to get more from a small budget
Snap's own optimisation advice is short and worth following:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Match your objective and goal-based bid type to the result you want.
- Make your target audience match your real customer profile.
- Install the Snap Pixel if you want sales on your website.
- Try different bidding strategies and experiment with suggested bids.
One more figure from Snap's site is worth knowing when you pitch Snapchat to a client or your boss: Snap says 443 million people use Snapchat every day. For the Meta side of the comparison, read how much Instagram ads cost before you split a budget between the two.
Tools that connect to Snapchat Ads
Snap's advertising page names a few integrations worth knowing about if you sell online. There's a Snapchat Ads app for Shopify stores, and Snap highlights an integration with Stape for installing the Snapchat Conversions API, which it says can be set up in minutes for better tracking. If your shop runs on Shopify, start with the app rather than adding the Pixel by hand.
My verdict
Snapchat Ads are cheap to start and easy to stop, which makes them a sensible test for any business whose customers are on the app. Just don't confuse the $5 minimum with a sensible budget. Run your first ad at Snap's recommended $20 to $50 a day for at least four days, claim the new advertiser credit if you qualify, and only then decide whether Snapchat earns a place in your plan.
Creators have a separate route from advertisers, set out in our guide to what Snapchat requires of creators.
