How to Embed a Video From X (Twitter) on Your Website

To embed a video from X (Twitter), open the post with the video on x.com, click the icon in the post, select Embed post, then click Copy Code on the page that opens and paste that code into your website's HTML. X embeds the whole post, video included, and says embedding is only available via x.com.

There isn't a separate video embed. You embed the post, and the video plays inside it on your page.

Below you'll find the steps, the settings worth changing before you copy the code, and the snags people hit. It's based on X's Help Center, read in October 2026.

How to embed an X video, step by step

  1. On a computer, go to x.com and open the post that contains the video.
  2. Click the icon located within the post to open its menu.
  3. Select Embed post. This opens X's publishing page at publish.x.com.
  4. Click set customization options if you want to change how the embedded post looks.
  5. If the post is a reply, tick Hide Conversation to show the reply without the original post above it.
  6. Click Copy Code.
  7. Paste the code into your blog or website where you want the video to appear.

X's help page confirms that an embedded post can display photos and videos uploaded to X, as well as content described by a link. So the video shows up in the embed without any extra work.

Why you can't embed from the X app

This is the snag most people run into. X's help page has a note that embedding posts is only available via x.com. If you're looking for Embed post in the app on your phone, it won't be there. Open x.com in a browser instead, ideally on a computer, where pasting the code into your site is easier too.

Where to paste the embed code

The code X gives you is HTML, so it needs to go somewhere your site accepts HTML rather than plain text.

Where you're publishingWhere the code goes
WordPressA Custom HTML block, or the code editor view
Most website buildersAn HTML or embed element
A blog platformThe HTML or source view of the post editor
An email newsletterEmail tools often strip embed code, so a screenshot and a link is safer

Paste it, preview the page, and check the video plays before you publish. If the embed shows as a block of code, it's gone into a text box instead of an HTML one.

Reply posts and the Hide Conversation box

If the video is in a reply, X will normally show the original post too, so readers see the context. X's help page says you can tick Hide Conversation on the publishing page to hide the original post. Use it when the reply makes sense alone. Leave it unticked when the reply means nothing without what it's answering.

The three ways an embedded post can look

X's help page shows three kinds of embed, and it's worth knowing which one you'll get before you paste the code:

Embed typeWhat your readers see
Single postJust the post, with its video
Reply including original postThe reply with the post it answered shown above it
Post including mediaThe post with its photo or video playing in the embed

For a video, you'll usually want the third look. If the video sits in a reply, you choose between the second look and a single post by ticking or unticking Hide Conversation.

Things to know before you rely on an embed

  • The embed shows the post from X, not a copy on your server. The person who posted it still controls it.
  • X's FAQ covers what happens with protected posts, deleted posts and suspended accounts, so check the post is public before you embed it.
  • Embedding someone's video doesn't give you rights to download and re-upload it. Embedding keeps the credit with them.

If you want to keep a copy of your own video, my guide to downloading Twitter videos covers that route.

A tip for businesses embedding their own videos

If the video is yours, post it on X first and then embed that post on your blog, rather than uploading the file to your site separately. The embed keeps the replies, reposts and likes attached to your X account, and anyone who wants to follow you is one click away. It also saves you hosting a large video file on your own site.

Embedding compared with uploading a video to X

People sometimes search for how to embed a video on Twitter when they mean putting their own video into a post. That's uploading, not embedding. You attach the video from your phone or computer when you write the post. My guide to X video upload limits for length and size covers what X accepts.

If it's a YouTube video you want on your website rather than an X post, YouTube has its own embed code. My guide on how to embed a YouTube video walks through it.

My verdict

Embedding an X video takes under a minute once you know the trick: use x.com, not the app, pick Embed post, copy the code and paste it into an HTML block. Preview before you publish, tick Hide Conversation when a reply stands on its own, and remember the post's owner can still change or remove what your readers see.

Frequently asked questions

How do I embed a video from Twitter on my website?

Open the post on x.com, click the icon in the post, select Embed post, then click Copy Code and paste the code into your site's HTML. The video plays inside the embedded post.

Can I embed an X post from the app?

No. X's help page says embedding posts is only available via x.com, so use a browser rather than the app.

Does an embedded X post show videos?

Yes. X says an embedded post can display photos and videos uploaded to X, as well as content described by a link.

How do I hide the original post when embedding a reply?

On the publishing page that opens after you choose Embed post, tick Hide Conversation before you copy the code.

Where does the X embed code go on my website?

It's HTML, so paste it into an HTML block or the code view of your editor, such as a Custom HTML block in WordPress, then preview the page before you publish.
