ZoomInfo Free Trial vs ZoomInfo Lite: What You Get for Free

ZoomInfo offers two free routes. The free trial is a sales-led trial of the full platform: you request it through a form, and ZoomInfo says it typically includes unlimited searches and views of contact and company profiles, plus support and training. ZoomInfo Lite is a permanent free plan with no credit card, no commitment and no expiry, which ZoomInfo says includes 10 monthly credits, or 25 with Community Edition.

ZoomInfo is the B2B contact database a lot of sales teams swear by, and it has a reputation for big annual contracts. If you run a small business or a lean sales team, the trick is knowing which free option to start with, and what each one asks of you in return.

What the ZoomInfo free trial includes

ZoomInfo's pricing FAQ says its free trials are there to help you evaluate the platform before you buy. It describes a typical trial as including:

  • Unlimited searches and views of contact and company profiles.
  • Ongoing support, training and integration help at no cost.
  • Possibly unlimited access to intent topics, depending on the trial offer.

ZoomInfo doesn't publish a fixed trial length on these pages, and the trial is arranged through a form rather than a self-serve checkout. In practice that means a conversation with the sales team, so go in knowing what you want to test.

What you get on ZoomInfo Lite

ZoomInfo's Lite pages list these features:

  • Individual and company searches, with advanced filters by industry, job title, company size and location.
  • Business email addresses and phone numbers for contacts.
  • Company details such as industry, revenue and employee count, to help you qualify leads.
  • The ReachOut browser extension and mobile app.
  • AI help drafting personalised emails.
  • CRM integration, including a HubSpot integration.

That's plenty to test whether ZoomInfo knows your market before you ever speak to sales.

The catch with ZoomInfo Lite: you pay with your contacts

ZoomInfo Lite was formerly called Community Edition. Joining the community gets you more credits, and the way you earn them is worth understanding before you click.

ZoomInfo says that once you agree to the Lite terms and connect your business email, it synchronises your email with its database and identifies contact information in your emails or contact book. That information is used to validate existing records or add new ones, which ZoomInfo's customers and community members then use. It describes the data as the kind of thing found on a business card or a CV, such as names, job titles, companies, phone numbers and email addresses, and says details in email headers such as IP addresses may also be collected.

For a sole trader that might feel like a fair swap. If you handle clients' contacts under a confidentiality agreement, or you're in a regulated sector, check with whoever looks after your data protection before connecting a work inbox.

How credits work

ZoomInfo's own pricing guide says credits are used when you download verified contact records, so searching is one thing and exporting is another. On Lite, use searches to build a shortlist and spend credits only on the contacts you'll contact this week.

What happens after a trial: read the contract

ZoomInfo doesn't publish fixed prices. It says paid plans are custom quoted, based on the number of users, the credits you'll use and the data you need. Its own pricing guide also flags terms to check before signing:

  • Paid plans are annual subscriptions, usually billed upfront, and monthly billing isn't standard.
  • Paid plans include a minimum number of seats.
  • Confirm the notice period needed to cancel before auto-renewal kicks in.
  • Renewal pricing can rise from your first contract rate, so ask for a cap.
  • Ask whether unused credits roll over or expire, and what happens to exported data if you don't renew.

ZoomInfo also says it isn't enterprise only, and that individuals and small startups can buy. By contrast, it says Lite has no contract, no auto-renewal and no cancellation process, which makes it the safer first step.

How to run a useful ZoomInfo trial

  1. Start with Lite to see whether the data covers your market at all.
  2. Write down the ten companies and job titles you most want to reach.
  3. If Lite looks promising, request the full trial and test those same targets with unlimited searches.
  4. Compare the contacts against what you already have, and note how many are new.
  5. Before any call about pricing, decide your seat count and how many contacts you'd export a month.

My verdict

For most small businesses, ZoomInfo Lite is the right place to begin, as long as you're comfortable with the contact sharing behind its extra credits. Request the full free trial only when you have a clear list of targets to test, and read the renewal terms before you sign anything, because that's where ZoomInfo contracts bite.
