The Peloton App free trial lasts 30 days and is open to new Peloton App members only. You choose a trial of either App One or App+, and you need a credit card or other payment method on file even though there's no upfront cost. If you don't cancel during the 30 days, Peloton automatically bills you for the tier you picked.
The Peloton App is the no-equipment version of Peloton: classes on your phone, tablet or TV, with no bike or treadmill needed. The trial itself is straightforward. The decision that matters is which of the two tiers you trial, because it changes what you can do for the month and what you'll pay after it.
Peloton App trial basics
| Question | Peloton's answer |
|---|---|
| Length | 30 days |
| Who can get it | New Peloton App members only |
| Payment method needed? | Yes, a credit card is required, with no upfront cost |
| Which tier | You choose App One or App+ when you start |
| After the trial | Automatic billing for the tier you chose |
| Profiles | One profile per App Membership |
App One or App+: what you're choosing
Both tiers give unlimited strength, yoga, meditation, stretching, boxing, HIIT, Pilates, barre, dance cardio and outdoor running and walking classes. The difference is cardio equipment classes, the ones built for any exercise bike, treadmill or rower.
- App One: limited access, with three cardio equipment classes a month.
- App+: no limit on cardio equipment classes, plus access to Peloton Strength+.
- App+ also supports compatible Bluetooth devices, such as heart rate monitors, fitness trackers and smart watches, according to Peloton's FAQ.
If you have a gym membership or a bike at home and you'd ride more than three times a month, trial App+. If you mostly want strength, yoga and floor workouts, App One is enough, and you'll find out quickly during the month whether the three cardio classes are a real limit.
Other features you can try in the 30 days
Peloton's FAQ lists a few extras that are easy to overlook in a trial month. All App members get the Just Work Out feature, which tracks activities outside a Peloton class on iOS and Android, and you can listen to music from third-party apps while you train. Peloton Gym gives step-by-step workout plans for building a routine at the gym, and you can bookmark classes, create playlists of classes and schedule your week. Peloton also says classes range from 5 to 90 minutes, so you can test whether short sessions fit around your working day.
The catch for Peloton equipment owners
If you already own a Peloton Bike, Bike+, Tread, Row or similar, the App trial isn't for you. Peloton says equipment owners need an All-Access Membership instead, and an App Membership won't give full access to the content your equipment needs.
How to start the free trial
- Download the Peloton App from the Apple App Store or Google Play, or sign up on Peloton's website.
- Create an account with your email address, a username and a password.
- When prompted, choose a free trial of App One or App+. Peloton only offers this if you haven't had a trial before.
- Add your payment method and book your first class.
How to cancel the Peloton App trial
Peloton's App Membership FAQ says you can opt out by cancelling at any time during the trial period. Where you cancel depends on where you signed up:
- Signed up on Peloton's website: Peloton manages web memberships from the My Memberships page at onepeloton.com/mymembership, where each membership has a Manage button.
- Signed up in the Apple App Store or Google Play: Peloton's terms say App Memberships can be bought through these third-party app providers, so cancel in that store's subscription settings.
- Stuck? Peloton's terms list Member Support on 1-866-679-9129.
I'd cancel on day 28 or 29 rather than the last evening. App stores usually need cancelling a little ahead of the renewal, and you don't want a time zone to decide whether you're charged.
What the terms say about refunds
- If you cancel a paid membership, you can use it until the end of the current period, but you won't get a prorated refund for the rest of that period.
- Discount offers that require payment are non-refundable unless stated in writing, and Peloton names annual subscriptions as an example.
- If you think you've been billed in error, Peloton asks you to tell Member Support within 60 days of the billing date. After that, it won't issue refunds or credits except where the law requires it.
- Some residents of New York and certain Canadian provinces have extra statutory cancellation rights, which are set out in the terms.
The practical upshot: don't switch to annual billing during the trial unless you're sure. If the trial converts to a monthly plan and you change your mind, your exposure is one month.
How to make the 30 days count
- Week one: take a beginner class in three different types, such as strength, yoga and a short cardio session.
- Week two: use Peloton's scheduling to plan the week, and stick to it.
- Week three: if you're on App One, notice whether you hit the three cardio class limit.
- Week four: look at your streak and decide whether you'll keep showing up when it costs something.

My take
Thirty days with a card on file is a generous trial, and the Peloton App is easy to try. Pick the tier that matches how you exercise, not the cheaper one by default, so the month gives you a fair picture. Then cancel two days early if it isn't for you, because Peloton won't refund the rest of a period once billing starts.
