Hallmark Plus Free Trial: 7 Days, and the 12-Month Household Rule

Hallmark+ offers a 7-day free trial, and you can cancel any time during it. You need a valid payment method to start, and when the week ends your subscription renews at the full price: $8.99 a month or $79.99 a year, as of October 2026. You're not eligible if anyone in your household has subscribed to Hallmark+ in the past 12 months.

Hallmark+ is more than a streaming service. Alongside Hallmark's original series and movies, it bundles shopping perks such as a monthly coupon and a free custom card. That mix is why the trial has a couple of rules that don't exist on a normal streaming trial, and one of them decides whether you get the perks at all.

The eligibility rule that catches families

Hallmark's terms say that if you or another member of your household has been a subscriber of Hallmark+, or of any other Hallmark Media subscription service, in the preceding 12 months, you aren't eligible for a free trial. The same applies if your payment method, physical address or email address has been linked to one of those subscriptions in that time.

So a new email address won't get you a second trial if the card or home address has been used before. Hallmark also says it reserves the right to decide eligibility in its sole discretion, and that trials can't be combined with other offers.

Where you sign up decides your perks

This is the detail I'd want every reader to know before tapping Start free trial on a TV. Hallmark's terms say the extra benefits, like the coupon, free card and bonus Crown Rewards points, go to subscribers who bought through a Hallmark Media website or app and have a Crown Rewards membership. Subscribers with an in-app subscription are ineligible for the extra benefits.

Hallmark defines in-app subscriptions broadly: signing up through Roku, Apple, Google Play, or as an add-on through a service like Amazon Prime Video all count, and your billing is with that platform, not Hallmark. If the shopping perks are part of the appeal, start your trial on Hallmark's own website.

How to start the Hallmark+ free trial

  1. Go to the Hallmark+ page on hallmark.com.
  2. Choose Start free trial and pick monthly or annual.
  3. Create or sign in to your Hallmark account and add a payment method.
  4. Link your Crown Rewards membership. Hallmark says you're enrolled automatically if you don't have one, with some exceptions.

How to cancel before you're charged

Hallmark's terms set out the cancel route for each sign-up method:

  • Started on Hallmark's website: log in, go to your account dashboard and click the cancel subscription button. To avoid future charges, cancel before the end of your trial.
  • Started in an app store or on a streaming device: disable automatic renewal using that platform's own steps, by the deadline that platform sets.
  • Any other route: follow the instructions that came with that subscription, or contact Hallmark+ for help.

When you cancel, Hallmark says you keep using Hallmark+ until the end of the period you've already paid for, and then access ends.

Live channel bundles are another way to watch, and this Philo plans guide shows what one of those includes.

No refunds, so timing matters

Hallmark's terms are firm: apart from the rare case where it discontinues Hallmark+ entirely, it doesn't provide refunds or credits for unused time or unwatched content. If your trial rolls into a paid month, cancelling the next day won't get that month back, though you'll keep access until it runs out.

That's why I'd choose the monthly plan for the trial even if the annual gifts tempt you. If you forget to cancel, the cost of a mistake is one month, not a full year. You can switch to annual once you know Hallmark+ is staying.

What happens to Crown Rewards and failed payments

Two more rules from Hallmark's terms are worth knowing. First, if you end your Hallmark+ subscription, your Crown Rewards membership reverts to a standard membership, unless you qualify for Platinum on your own spending. You don't lose Crown Rewards itself, just the Hallmark+ boost. If you'd rather close Crown Rewards completely, Hallmark says you can do that by calling 1-800-HALLMARK.

Second, if a renewal payment fails, the terms let Hallmark retry the payment method on file, more than once, and collect from any alternate payment methods it holds for you. So if you've saved more than one card with Hallmark, a declined card won't necessarily stop the charge. Cancelling is the only reliable way to end it.

Hallmark+ gift cards

If someone has given you a Hallmark+ gift card, you redeem it at hallmarkplus.com rather than starting a trial. Hallmark's terms say the full balance is applied to the plan you choose and isn't refundable or redeemable for cash. If the balance doesn't cover the plan price, you'll need to add another payment method, which then stays on file.

Worth it?

For a fan of Hallmark movies who also buys cards and gifts at Hallmark, the trial is an easy yes, as long as you start it on Hallmark's website so the perks count. If you only want the shows, compare it with the Peacock free trial and the discovery+ free trial before you commit. Either way, set a reminder for day six, because there's no refund once a paid period starts.
