Framer vs WordPress is design speed against flexibility. Framer is a hosted visual builder with AI agents, where plans set fixed limits on pages, CMS collections and bandwidth. WordPress is open source software that runs millions of sites, either self-hosted or on WordPress.com, with over 60,000 plugins. Framer suits a polished marketing site you want live fast; WordPress suits a site that has to grow into a blog, shop or members' area.

Framer's page and CMS caps
Framer's plans are fixed. Basic gives you 30 pages, 2 CMS collections, 1,000 CMS items and 50 GB of bandwidth. Pro gives you 150 pages, 10 collections, 2,500 items and 100 GB, and beyond that you'll pay per block: $20 per extra 100 pages, $40 per extra 10 collections and $40 per extra 100 GB of bandwidth, up to set maximums. For a five-page brochure site that never matters. For a business that plans to publish a blog post a week, it'll matter within a year.
Framer's AI features also run on credits, shared across your workspace. Every paid plan includes monthly credits for agents, localisation and other AI features, and you can add more.
The upkeep that comes with WordPress
WordPress gives you freedom because it's open source: the four freedoms of the GPL let you run, study, change and redistribute it. The trade-off is that a self-hosted site's yours to look after, from hosting to updates to plugins. WordPress.com takes much of that on, and its higher plans add real-time backups, one-click restores and SSH access for developers. Free WordPress.com sites show WordPress.com ads to visitors until you upgrade, which isn't the look you'll want for a business.
Framer's best features
- Visual design first. You design pages visually, and even the free plan includes AI credits to try the agents.
- Built-in extras on Pro. Staging, branching with previews, site redirects and 90 days of analytics history.
- Hosting handled. A global content delivery network: 20 locations on Basic and 300+ on Pro.
- AI agents and an MCP server preview so you can connect AI tools to your site.
WordPress's biggest advantages
- Plugins for almost anything. Shops, memberships, bookings, email marketing and more.
- No page caps. WordPress.com plans list unlimited pages, posts, users and visitors.
- Open source. Because the software is GPL licensed, a self-hosted site isn't tied to one company.
- Selling built in. WordPress.com plans include payment buttons for PayPal and Stripe, and commerce plans for online stores.

Decide with these questions
- How many pages will the site have in two years, not just at launch?
- Who will edit it? Framer charges per extra editor; WordPress.com doesn't cap users.
- Will you need a shop, memberships or bookings later?
- Do you want to manage hosting and updates, or have them done for you?

My advice on Framer or WordPress
Build on Framer if your site's a showcase you'll update a few times a year and you care most about how it looks. Build on WordPress if content is your marketing: a blog, guides, a shop or a growing library of pages. Count your pages before you choose, because that's the number that decides it, and don't forget the blog you haven't started yet.
