UGC creators need tools for three jobs: filming natural talking-to-camera clips, editing them fast with captions, and presenting their work to brands. Brands also use AI tools that make UGC-style ads without filming. Start with a free mobile editor and a teleprompter, then add tools as brand work grows.
User-generated content works because it doesn't look like an ad. That's harder to get right than it sounds, because the person on camera still needs to hit the brief, sound natural and deliver files the brand can use straight away.
This list covers tools for human UGC creators and the AI tools brands use alongside them. If you're writing the scripts yourself, my UGC ad script swipe file will save you hours, and my guide to UGC video ads that drive sales covers what brands look for.

Tools for UGC creators and brands

CapCut
Best for: Creators editing vertical videos on their phone who want captions, cuts and trending effects done in minutes.

Creatify
Best for: Ecommerce brands that want product video ads made from a product page link, then resized for each platform.
Descript
Best for: Creators who find timelines fiddly and would rather edit a video by editing its transcript like a document.
InShot
Best for: New creators who want trimming, music, text and speed changes on their phone without learning a complex editor.
MakeUGC
Best for: Ecommerce teams that need UGC-style product videos at volume and can't book enough human creators to keep up.
VN
Best for: Anyone who's outgrown basic phone editors and wants multiple tracks, keyframes and no watermark on exports.
What a brand-ready UGC video needs
- A hook in the first second or two that sounds like a real person, not a script.
- Clear audio, because brands will forgive a slightly shaky shot but not a muffled voice.
- Captions burned in or supplied separately, as the brief asks.
- Vertical framing with room for platform buttons at the bottom and sides.
- Several hook and call-to-action versions, so the brand can test them.
Human UGC or AI UGC?
AI UGC tools let brands test lots of hooks and angles quickly without booking anyone. Human creators still win when trust matters, when a product needs to be shown in real hands or when the audience can spot a synthetic face. Many brands now use both: AI versions to find the angle that works, then real creators to film the version that runs.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Disclosure rules still apply
The Federal Trade Commission says an endorsement should make it obvious when you have a relationship, a material connection, with the brand, and that includes getting free or discounted products. If a UGC video runs on your own account rather than only as the brand's ad, disclose the relationship clearly in the video and the caption. In the UK, the advertising rules ask for clear ad labels too.
Organising files for brand jobs
Brands remember the creators who make their lives easy. Name every file with the brand, the product, the version and the date, and keep raw footage, edits and final exports in separate folders. When a brand asks for a new hook on a video you made three months ago, you'll find it in seconds.
Agree the delivery format before you film. Ask about aspect ratio, length, whether they want captions burned in and how many hook versions they need. It's much quicker to film three hooks on the day than to set everything up again later, and it shows the brand you understand how their ads get tested.
Don't overthink the kit. A clean phone lens, a window for light and a quiet room will get you most of the way, and you'll learn more from filming than from shopping for gear.

My advice for UGC creators choosing tools
Get your audio and lighting right before you spend anything on software. A free editor and a teleprompter app will carry you through your first dozen brand jobs. Upgrade when a tool would save you real hours every week, not because another creator uses it.
Build a short portfolio of three or four videos in different styles, and keep raw files organised by brand and date. If you edit for Reels and TikTok as well, my comparison of video editing apps for Reels and TikTok is a useful next read.
Frequently asked questions
What tools do UGC creators use?
Most use a mobile video editor, a captions app, a teleprompter and a design tool for their portfolio. Some also use a text-based editor for longer edits.
Can I make UGC videos with AI?
Yes, AI tools can generate UGC-style ads with AI actors or from a product page. Brands often use them to test angles before filming with real creators.
What's the best free app for editing UGC?
Several mobile editors here are free to download and cover cuts, captions, music and text, which is enough for most brand briefs.
Do UGC creators need to disclose brand deals?
If the video runs on your own account, the FTC says your relationship with the brand should be obvious, including when you only received free products.
How do I make UGC videos look natural?
Use a teleprompter for key lines, keep the script conversational, film in good light and record several takes of the hook.
