PayPal to Maya: How to Link and Withdraw Your Earnings

To withdraw from PayPal to Maya, upgrade your Maya account, keep at least PHP 100 in it, activate the Maya virtual card, then add that card in PayPal's Wallet and transfer your balance to it. Your PayPal billing address must match your Maya address exactly, or the link fails.

Maya is the other big e-wallet route for Filipino freelancers paid through PayPal, and it works differently from GCash. With Maya, the money goes out from PayPal to a Maya card you've linked, a bit like withdrawing to a bank card. Here's the setup from Maya's own guides, plus the catches.

Set up Maya first

  1. Download the Maya app and create an account.
  2. Upgrade the account. Basic accounts can't do everything, and ATM withdrawals later need an upgraded account.
  3. Add at least PHP 100. PayPal runs a small card check when you link, so the balance needs to be there.
  4. Open the Cards tab and get your free virtual card, then activate it. A physical card is optional; Maya says delivery takes 4 working days in Metro Manila and 8 to 10 working days elsewhere.
  1. Log in to PayPal and go to Wallet.
  2. Choose Link Card and enter your Maya card details.
  3. Enter a billing address that's an exact match to the address on your Maya registration.
  4. Expect a temporary charge of 1 US dollar on the Maya card while PayPal checks it. Maya says it's refunded after a few minutes.

The billing address is where most links fail. If the addresses differ even slightly, you'll see an error saying the bank that issued your card didn't approve the transaction. It isn't a ban; it's an address mismatch. Copy your Maya address exactly, including the barangay and postcode format.

Withdrawing your earnings

Once the card is linked, use Transfer money in PayPal and choose your Maya card. Maya's partnership page says confirmation usually arrives in the app or by SMS within the day, which it compares with the 2 to 4 business days typical for PayPal transfers to Philippine banks.

What does it cost?

Here's where Maya's own pages don't agree, so I'll give you both. Maya's current freelancer guide says you keep 100% of your earnings with free PayPal transfers. An older Maya guide quoted a 500 pesos minimum withdrawal and a 250 pesos fee per withdrawal. My advice: trust the screen, not the blog. PayPal shows any fee and the exchange rate before you confirm, so check it every time, and if it isn't what you expected, cancel.

Remember that converting dollars to pesos has a cost even when the transfer is free. I've looked at whether PayPal's conversion rate is worth relying on if you're moving bigger amounts.

Maya or GCash for PayPal money?

Plenty of freelancers set up both, so one is a backup when the other has a hiccup.

Tips from freelancers who use it every month

  • Keep a small buffer in Maya, at least PHP 100, so the card check never fails when PayPal re-verifies.
  • Use the virtual card for PayPal and keep the physical card for ATMs and shops, so a lost card doesn't break your payout route.
  • Withdraw in fewer, larger amounts if a fee appears on PayPal's screen, rather than many small ones.
  • Screenshot each transfer confirmation in PayPal; it makes support conversations much quicker.

None of these are in Maya's guides; they're just the habits that stop payday turning into a support ticket.

Is Maya safe for PayPal money?

Maya Philippines, Inc. and Maya Bank, Inc. are regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and the PayPal link is the official card route. As with any e-wallet, the danger is social engineering: nobody from Maya or PayPal needs your one-time code to complete a withdrawal. If someone offers to move your PayPal balance to Maya for you, decline, and do it yourself in the app.

When something goes wrong

  • Card declined when linking: fix the billing address first, then check you have PHP 100 in Maya.
  • Can't withdraw at an ATM: make sure your Maya account is upgraded.
  • Transfer not showing: check the Maya app and your SMS before contacting support. Maya's hotline is (+632) 8845-7788.

My verdict

Maya works well for PayPal earnings once the address matches and the account is upgraded. Check the fee on PayPal's screen each time rather than trusting any blog, including the official ones. Looking for more work to pay in? Start with these online jobs in the Philippines.
