Cash App Green is a free status you earn each month by spending 500 dollars or more with your Cash App Card or Cash App Pay, or by depositing 300 dollars or more in qualifying paychecks. It gives you free in-network ATM withdrawals, overdraft coverage up to 200 dollars on card purchases, higher savings interest and higher Borrow limits.
Cash App Green isn't a separate account or a paid plan, and you don't apply for it or pay for it. It's a status Cash App gives you for using it like a bank: getting paid into it or spending with its card. Most of the questions people ask are about what counts towards qualifying, because transfers that feel like deposits often don't.
How to qualify for Cash App Green
| Route | What you need in a month | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| Spending | 500 dollars or more | Cash App Card or Cash App Pay purchases |
| Paychecks | 300 dollars or more | Direct deposits of payroll, pension or government benefits, and payroll services paying into your Cash balance |
You only need one route. Cash App says deposits and spending can't be combined or stacked, so 250 dollars of spending plus 200 dollars of deposits doesn't get you there. Hit either target and the status switches on straight away.
What doesn't count
- Adding money to Cash App from your linked bank account.
- Payments you send to friends and family.
- Spending on a different card.
The linked-bank rule is the big one. Topping up Cash App from your bank feels like a deposit, but for Green it isn't. Only direct deposits from an employer, pension, benefits or a payroll service count.
What Cash App Green gets you
| Benefit | What Cash App says |
|---|---|
| Free ATM withdrawals | ATM fees reimbursed on all in-network withdrawals |
| Overdraft coverage | Free coverage up to 200 dollars on Cash App Card transactions |
| Savings interest | Cash App's highest savings rate, if you meet its savings conditions |
| Foreign transaction fees | Waived on card-present transactions |
| Borrow | Up to 400 dollars for first-time borrowers, and limit increases of up to 300 dollars |
Two notes. Free ATM withdrawals are for in-network ATMs, and Cash App says service fees may apply. And the overdraft coverage is for card transactions only: Cash App says ATM transactions and ACH transfers aren't covered.
You need an active Cash App Card
You can earn Green without a card, for example through paychecks alone, but the ATM and overdraft benefits only work once you've activated your Cash App Card. If you qualify through deposits and haven't ordered the card, you'll be missing half the point.
How long Green lasts
Status is monthly with a one-month carry-over. Cash App's example: qualify in April and your benefits stay active through May. If you deposit less than 300 dollars in paychecks or spend less than 500 dollars in a month, your benefits won't renew the following month, but you can earn them back as soon as you hit either target again. You don't have to qualify the same way each month.
Things Cash App Green can't do
It's personal to your account: Cash App says you can't share your Green status or benefits with friends or family. And Borrow limits still depend on several factors, so Green raises your chances rather than promising a set amount.
Track your progress each month
Cash App shows your progress towards Green in the app, so you can see how near you've got to the spending or deposit target before the month ends. That matters because the two routes don't add together. If you're 50 dollars short on spending with a week to go, it's your normal card purchases that will get you there, not a top-up from your bank.
If you're paid by a gig app or an earned-wage app rather than a regular employer, check whether it pays into your Cash balance through a payroll service. Cash App says those payroll deposits count, while money you add yourself from a linked bank account doesn't.

Green vs a regular Cash App account
| Without Green | With Green | |
|---|---|---|
| Cash App Card | Standard features | Extra Green perks |
| In-network ATM fees | Not reimbursed | Paid back by Cash App |
| Card overdraft coverage | No | Free, up to 200 dollars |
| Foreign transaction fees on in-person card use | No waiver | Waived |
Is it worth chasing Green?
If your pay already goes into Cash App, you'll probably qualify without trying, and the free ATM withdrawals and overdraft coverage are worth having. If you only use Cash App to pay friends, it's not worth moving your spending around to hit 500 dollars a month, and it's not worth redirecting a paycheck just for free ATM use if your bank already gives you that. Spending more to get free ATM use costs you more than it saves.
My verdict
Cash App Green is a decent free perk for people who use Cash App as their main account, and pointless for occasional users. Get your paycheck sent there or use the card for everyday spending, activate the card, and the benefits follow. Check your progress in the app near the end of each month so you don't drop out by accident. For other apps that cover overdrafts or small advances, compare EarnIn, Dave and these cash advance apps.
