CapCut vs Canva: Which Is Better for Business Social Videos?

CapCut suits people whose main job is editing video, with AI generation, captions and a free plan built around clips. Canva suits people who make video alongside graphics, presentations and documents, keeping everything on brand in one place. If video is most of what you post, choose CapCut; if it's one format among many, choose Canva.

Both tools now promise to turn your clips into a scroll-stopping reel in minutes, so it's no wonder people ask which to use. The difference is where each one starts. CapCut is a video editor that added design tools. Canva is a design tool that added a strong video editor. I read CapCut's plans and home pages and Canva's plans and video editor pages for this comparison.

What CapCut does well

CapCut's free plan includes free templates and basic editing tools, and its online editor exports HD video without a watermark. The AI tools are where it leans in: text to speech, AI video and image generation, background removal and auto captions. Pro adds monthly AI credits, every premium template and 1 TB of storage. Teams adds a brand kit and Pro features for each seat.

It's the tool I'd hand to someone who already thinks in clips and cuts. You'll find it quick on a phone, and because it runs online too, you don't have to install anything to try it. If you're new to it, don't start with the AI generator. Trim one real clip, add captions and you'll soon know whether it suits you.

What Canva does well

Canva's free plan is for one person and covers 1,000+ design types, more than 1.6 million templates, a library of photos, videos and audio, 1 Brand Kit and 5GB of storage. Its video editor gives you a multi-layered timeline, hook templates built for social media, one-click captions, Highlights to find the strongest moments in long footage, and Magic Video, which builds a social-ready edit from your clips and a short prompt. Pro adds AI tools such as resize, translate and background removal, more Brand Kits and social scheduling.

The brand kit question

This is the detail I'd weigh most for a business. Canva includes a Brand Kit on its free plan and 5 on Pro, so your colours and fonts carry across every reel, carousel and slide deck you make. CapCut lists its brand kit on the Teams plan. If you care that every video matches your graphics, Canva keeps that consistency with less effort. If your videos have their own look and you just want them edited fast, CapCut's editing depth matters more.

Which tool matches your content mix

CapCut suits video-first creators, people who post reels and TikToks most days, and anyone who wants AI to generate footage. Canva suits small business owners who make a reel on Monday, a flyer on Tuesday and a presentation on Thursday. For a wider view, see my comparison of video editing apps for Reels and TikTok, and if you go with Canva, learn how to animate in Canva to get more movement into your graphics.

My advice for your coming weeks of content

Look at your last ten posts. If seven or more were video, give CapCut the job and keep Canva for graphics if you already use it. If video was a handful of them, do it all in Canva so your brand stays consistent and you only learn one tool. Either way, batch your edits in one sitting, because switching tools mid-week is where the time goes.
