2 Lakh Followers on Facebook: Income in India and What It Takes

A Facebook page with 2 lakh (200,000) followers in India isn't paid for its followers. It earns once it's eligible for Meta's tools, such as Facebook Content Monetization, in-stream ads or Stars, plus any brand deals you agree. Meta publishes no rupee rate, so your income depends on which programmes your dashboard says you can join.

Two lakh followers is a serious, mid-sized page. You're past the point where people say "nice hobby" and into the stretch where brands start paying attention. But Facebook still doesn't pay per follower, so the useful question is which of Meta's money tools your page can switch on now, and what's blocking the rest.

Which Meta tools a 2 lakh page can use

ToolHow you get itWorth knowing
Facebook Content MonetizationBy invitation; register interest in the dashboard's Monetization tabEarns across Reels, photos, text posts and stories in one programme
In-stream adsEligibility check in your dashboardNeeds a sufficient follower base and a minimum number of videos
StarsTurn on once eligibleMeta pays 1 cent per Star fans send
Branded contentPage or pro mode, plus branded content eligibilityYou set the fee with the brand and use the Paid partnership label

Meta doesn't publish the exact follower and video minimums for in-stream ads on its policy page; it says you need a sufficient follower base and a minimum number of videos. Your dashboard is where you'll see whether you've cleared them.

How to see what you're eligible for right now

  1. Make sure you're posting from a Page or a profile with professional mode on. Personal profiles without it can't monetise.
  2. On mobile, open the Professional dashboard and tap Monetization.
  3. Look for Ready to set up under any programme name and tap Set up.
  4. If you see Not yet eligible, tap each programme to read the exact criteria you're missing.
  5. On a computer, Meta Business Suite shows the same thing under Monetization, then View Page eligibility.

The blockers I'd check first

  • Page age: Meta wants an established presence of at least 30 days before every monetisation feature opens up.
  • Content style: slideshows, looping clips, static images with music and text montages can't be monetised, however many followers you have.
  • Originality: only content you made, or meaningfully edited with commentary, parody or creative edits, can earn.
  • Location: you, and the financial account you connect, must be in an eligible country.

Followers you can earn from, and followers you can't

Not every follower counts the same. Meta says creators can only monetise content consumed by a natural, real audience, and that you may lose monetisation if your audience is largely fake likes, follows or views. So if some of your 2 lakh came from follow-for-follow groups or paid follower services, those followers are a liability, not an asset. They drag down your engagement rate, which brands notice, and they can put your eligibility at risk.

The healthiest thing a mid-sized page can do is grow slower and cleaner: original posts, replies to comments, collaborations with similar pages, and no shortcuts. It's less exciting, but it's the version of 2 lakh followers that earns.

Where most 2 lakh pages earn the bulk

For a page this size I'd expect brand work to matter more than any single Meta programme. Brands in India hire mid-sized creators because the audience is focused and the fees are more manageable than for celebrity pages. There's no official rate, so build a simple media kit: your recent reach, engagement, top three content themes and where your followers live. That gives you something firmer than a follower count to negotiate with.

When you pitch, lead with a real example: a post that got strong comments, a Reel that drove people to a local shop, or a Live where your audience asked lots of questions. Brands hiring mid-sized creators want proof that people act on what you share, and one good story does more than a screenshot of your follower count.

Meta's own creator pages also push partnership ads, where a brand puts ad spend behind your post across Facebook and Instagram. It's a natural upsell once you've done a standard branded post that performed well.

A simple 30-day plan

  1. Week one: check eligibility in your dashboard and fix anything listed as missing.
  2. Week one: register interest in Content Monetization if you haven't been invited.
  3. Week two: switch your weakest formats (slideshows, reposts) for original Reels and short videos.
  4. Week three: turn on Stars where eligible and mention it naturally in your Lives.
  5. Week four: send your media kit to three brands your audience already talks about.

My verdict

Two lakh followers is the size where Facebook starts to pay, but only once your page is eligible, so the dashboard check is your first job. Fix what it flags, post original work in allowed formats, and start brand conversations in parallel. That mix is far more reliable than hoping for a per-follower payout that doesn't exist.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Facebook pay for 2 lakh followers in India?

Facebook doesn't pay per follower, and Meta publishes no rupee rate. A page earns through programmes like Content Monetization, in-stream ads or Stars once eligible, and through brand deals.

How many followers do I need for Facebook in-stream ads?

Meta's policy page says you need a sufficient follower base and a minimum number of videos without stating the numbers there. Your Professional Dashboard shows the exact criteria for your page.

How do I join Facebook Content Monetization?

It's invitation-based for now. You can register interest from the Monetization tab in your dashboard by choosing Content Monetization.

Do Facebook Stars pay in India?

Meta says you earn 1 cent for every Star a fan sends, where Stars are available to you. Check your dashboard to see if you're eligible.

Why does my Facebook page say not yet eligible?

Tap each programme in the Professional Dashboard to see what's missing. Common reasons are page age under 30 days, banned formats, unoriginal content or location.
