To transfer GCash to Maya, open GCash, tap Transfer, then Local, find Maya in the list of banks and e-wallets, enter the amount, the account name and the account number, then tap Send and Confirm. It goes through InstaPay, so it arrives in real time, with a small fee per transfer. You need a Fully Verified GCash account to do it.
Plenty of Filipino freelancers and sellers keep both wallets: GCash for one set of payouts, Maya for another. Moving funds between them isn't a GCash to GCash send. It's a bank transfer, and GCash treats Maya like any other local bank or e-wallet. Here's how it works, based on GCash's Help Center.
Before you start
- Your GCash must be Fully Verified. GCash says Basic accounts can't use Bank Transfer.
- Have the Maya account holder's exact account name and account number ready, as shown in their Maya app.
- Update GCash to the latest version. GCash updated its InstaPay fee in July 2026 and asks users to update the app to see it.
Option 1: Send with the account details
- Open GCash and tap Transfer, then Local.
- Tap the bank logo you need or View All, and choose Maya from the list.
- Enter the amount, the account name and the account number.
- Tap the send button.
- Review the details carefully and tap Confirm.
Option 2: Scan the Maya QR code
If the person you're paying can show you their Maya QR code, this is quicker and avoids typing mistakes:
- Open GCash and tap Transfer, then Local.
- Tap Scan/Upload Bank QR.
- Scan the QR code. The account details fill in by themselves.
- Enter the amount, send, then review and tap Confirm.
Why typing it right matters so much
This is the rule that costs people. InstaPay transfers are real time, so there's no cancelling once you confirm. If you send to the wrong account, GCash says it'll help on a best-effort basis, but refunds depend on the receiving bank's policies and the final decision is theirs. You need to report it in the app within 15 days of the transaction: go to Transactions, tap the transfer, then Get Help and choose the wrong bank account option.
If the account you typed doesn't exist or is inactive, you should get an SMS saying the transfer failed, and nothing should leave your wallet.
Save Maya for next time
If you move funds to Maya regularly, save the account. GCash lets you save up to 20 bank accounts under My Saved Bank Accounts, and you can set up to 5 scheduled transfers that repeat weekly or monthly. A scheduled transfer fails if your balance is short, then tries again on the next date. For dates like the 31st, GCash processes it on the last day of the month.
GCash to Maya at a glance
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Which rail does it use? | InstaPay |
| How fast is it? | Real time |
| Is there a fee? | Yes, a small fee per transaction, shown in the app |
| Can a Basic account send? | No, you need Fully Verified |
| Can I undo it? | No, only a best-effort dispute within 15 days |
On the Maya side
Maya has its own wallet limits, and upgrading your Maya account raises them. If the Maya account you're sending to is new, the owner may want to upgrade first, so a large transfer doesn't bounce. Here's how PayPal fits in for Filipino earners and how Wise pays out in the Philippines if your income comes from abroad.
Common reasons a GCash to Maya transfer fails
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer button greyed out | Basic GCash account | Get Fully Verified in GCash |
| Error about limits | Monthly wallet or transaction limit reached | Check Profile, then Profile Limits, or wait for the reset on the 1st |
| SMS says the transfer failed | Wrong or inactive account number | Check the number in the Maya app and try again |
| Scheduled transfer didn't run | Not enough balance on the date | Top up, it retries on the next scheduled date |
| Fee looks different | Old app version | Update GCash to see the current InstaPay fee |
If you're moving your own earnings, keep a note of each transfer's reference in your records. Freelancers who declare income find it much easier when every move between wallets has a clear trail, and GCash lets you download your transaction history from your account settings.
One more point worth knowing: GCash to Maya isn't the same as Express Send. Express Send moves funds between two GCash accounts only. Anything going to Maya, or to any bank, uses Bank Transfer through InstaPay, which is why the fee and the Fully Verified rule apply.
A quick word on timing. Because InstaPay is real time, the recipient should see the funds in Maya within moments. If they don't, check your GCash transaction history first. A completed transfer with a reference number means it left GCash; anything after that is on the receiving side, and the recipient can raise it with Maya using that reference.
My advice
Use the QR code whenever you can. It's the simplest way to avoid sending to a stranger by mistake, and with InstaPay there's no taking it back. For your own Maya account, save it once and you'll never type the number again.
