How to See Reposts on Instagram (Yours and Other People's)

To see your own reposts on Instagram, go to your profile and open the Reposts tab, which sits separately from your posts grid. To see someone else's, open their profile and tap their Reposts tab. Reposts of other people's content also show up in your feed, credited to the original poster.

Instagram reposts work a lot like TikTok's. When someone reposts a reel or feed post, it doesn't land on their main grid. Meta says reposts are kept in a separate tab on the profile, so you can always go back and revisit them, and they're recommended into friends' and followers' feeds. Knowing that tells you exactly where to look.

Finding your own reposts

  1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
  2. Look at the row of tabs under your bio, above your posts.
  3. Tap the Reposts tab.
  4. Scroll through everything you've reposted.

If you can't see a Reposts tab, the likeliest reason is that you haven't reposted anything yet. Update the app and repost something to check it's there.

Seeing what someone else has reposted

It's the same idea. Go to their profile and tap their Reposts tab. Because reposting only works on public reels and feed posts, everything in someone's Reposts tab started life as public content. Whether you can open their tab depends on their own account: if they're private and you don't follow them, you won't see their profile content at all.

Why a Reposts tab might be missing

  • Nothing's been reposted yet. The tab is where reposts are kept, so an account that's never reposted has nothing to show.
  • The profile is private. If you don't follow a private account, you can't see what's on their profile, Reposts tab included.
  • You're looking for a story. Meta describes reposts for public reels and feed posts, so a story someone shared won't appear in their Reposts tab.
  • Your app is out of date. New tabs and buttons often need the latest version of the app, so update it from your app store.

Spotting reposts in your feed

Reposts don't only live on profiles. Meta says they're recommended to your friends' and followers' feeds. So when a reel turns up from an account you don't follow, it's often because someone you do follow reposted it. Every repost is credited to the original poster, so you can tap through to the creator's profile.

If the person who reposted added a note, you'll see it in a small thought bubble on the post. That's where people add their own comment, like a quick recommendation.

Can you see who reposted your post?

This is what creators most want to know, and it's where I'd be careful. Meta's announcement explains that when your content is reposted, it may be recommended to the reposter's followers, even people who don't follow you. That's the upside: reach you didn't have to work for. But the announcement doesn't describe a list of everyone who reposted your content, so don't rely on one. In practice you'll see reposts the same way everyone else does: in your feed and on other people's Reposts tabs.

How to stop people reposting your content

Here's the rule that matters most: Meta says you can repost public reels and feed posts. So the one certain way to keep your posts out of other people's Reposts tabs is to make your account private.

  1. Go to your profile and tap Menu.
  2. Below Who can see your content, tap Account privacy.
  3. Turn on Private account.

That's a big step for a business, and Instagram says business profiles can't go private without switching back to a personal account. For most businesses I'd say don't. Reposts are free distribution, credited to you. If it's one particular person reposting your content in a way you don't like, blocking them is far more targeted, and people aren't notified when you block them.

Managing your own reposts

Your Reposts tab is public to anyone who can see your profile, so it's worth a tidy now and then. If you've reposted something you'd rather not have there, my guide on how to undo a repost on Instagram walks through removing it. Think of the tab as a mini mood board: what you repost says a lot about your brand.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

For businesses, reposting other people's content is a lovely way to fill the gaps on days you're not creating. It keeps your profile active and builds goodwill with the creators you share. It sits nicely alongside my tips on growing your followers without posting daily.

My verdict

Your reposts live in their own tab on your profile, and everyone else's live on theirs. Check the Reposts tab, keep an eye on your feed for credited reposts, and don't panic if your content gets reposted: it's credited to you and can reach people who'd never have found you. Only go private if you need to keep your content off other people's profiles altogether.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my reposts on Instagram?

On your profile, in a separate Reposts tab. Meta says reposts are kept in their own tab so you can go back and revisit them.

Do Instagram reposts show on my main grid?

No. Reposts go into a separate tab on your profile, not your main grid of posts.

Can people repost my Instagram posts if I'm private?

Meta says you can repost public reels and feed posts, so content from a private account isn't available to repost.

Do reposts credit the original creator on Instagram?

Yes. Meta says reposts are credited to the original poster, and they may be recommended to the reposter's followers.

Can I add a comment to an Instagram repost?

Yes. When you tap the repost icon, you can type a note into the thought bubble that appears and tap save.
