How to Get Verified on Twitch: The Purple Check

On Twitch, verification comes with Partnership: Twitch says all Partners are automatically given the Verified Badge, a purple checkmark showing Twitch has confirmed their identity. So the route to the badge is the route to Partner, through the Path to Partner achievement or a large following elsewhere.

Twitch doesn't run a separate verification form for streamers. The purple checkmark you see in chat is tied to Partner status. Here's how it works, from Twitch's own announcement of the badge and its Partner page.

What the purple checkmark means

When Twitch launched the Verified Badge, it said the badge means Twitch has verified the identity of the user who has it. In chat it shows as a purple checkmark, so viewers can tell a real streamer from a lookalike name. Twitch's own example was telling a famous streamer apart from an impersonator with one letter swapped.

Who gets it

Twitch said all Partners would be automatically granted access to the Verified Badge, and its Partner page still lists the Verified User Badge as a Partner benefit. Twitch also said at launch that it would develop a policy on which other users might qualify, but the clear, documented route is Partnership.

The quirk: you can switch it off

The Verified Badge sits in the global badge slot, the same slot used by badges such as Prime, Turbo and Bits. That means a verified user can toggle it on or off, and choose another global badge instead. So if you see a Partner without the checkmark in chat, they may simply have picked a different badge.

How to get Partner, and with it the badge

RouteWhat Twitch says
Path to PartnerComplete the achievement in your Achievements dashboard to open the apply button and get priority review
Established elsewhereDemonstrate a large, engaged viewership or following on other services
Either wayYou should be able to maintain the criteria consistently

Twitch is upfront that the Path to Partner achievement lists the minimum it looks for, and completing it doesn't guarantee Partnership. It's a review, not an automatic upgrade.

What else Partners get

  • Custom chat badges and up to 50 emote slots.
  • VODs stored for 60 days, compared with 14 days for Affiliates.
  • Priority support, with Partner Help aiming to answer in 1-2 business days.
  • A broadcast delay of up to 15 minutes for competitive play.

Verified is about identity, not size

It's worth being clear on what the checkmark tells viewers. Twitch framed it as proof that it has verified who the user is, so people don't mistake an impersonator for the real streamer. It isn't a measure of how big or good a channel is, even though, in practice, only Partners have it. If impersonation is your worry before you reach Partner, the practical fix is the same as everywhere else: link your Twitch channel from your website and your verified accounts on other platforms, so fans can always find the real one from a source they trust.

Step by step

  1. Open your Achievements dashboard and find Path to Partner.
  2. Work towards the criteria over a sustained period, not a single big week.
  3. When the achievement completes, use the apply button it opens up.
  4. If you're already big on another platform, apply on that basis instead.
  5. Once accepted, check the Verified Badge is set in your global badge slot.

My verdict

Don't look for a verification form; there isn't one for streamers. Aim at Partner, and the checkmark follows. For the numbers side of that, my guide to Twitch partner requirements goes into Path to Partner in detail, and if you're weighing up other platforms, here's a look at Twitch alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get the purple checkmark on Twitch?

It's the Verified Badge, and Twitch says all Partners are automatically given access to it. Getting Partner status is the route.

Why doesn't a Twitch Partner show the checkmark?

The Verified Badge sits in the global badge slot, so verified users can switch it off or show a different global badge instead.

Does completing Path to Partner guarantee verification?

No. Twitch says Path to Partner lists minimum criteria and completing it doesn't guarantee Partnership, which is what brings the badge.

Do Twitch Affiliates get the verified badge?

Twitch's documented route to the Verified Badge is Partnership; its Partner page lists the Verified User Badge as a Partner benefit.

Can big creators from other platforms get Twitch Partner?

Yes. Twitch lists demonstrating a large, engaged viewership or following on other services as a route to Partnership.
