Claude Prompts for Presentations: Build a Deck You Can Download

Claude can build a real PowerPoint file (.pptx) you download, once Code execution and file creation is switched on in Settings > Capabilities. The best Claude prompts for presentations give it the audience, the slide count, what goes on each slide and the look you want, then ask for speaker notes. Anthropic says to be specific and expect to refine the first version.

I used to write a presentation in a doc and then spend an evening dragging it into slides. Claude's file creation changes that: describe the deck, attach your notes, and you get a .pptx to open and polish. The quality depends almost entirely on the brief. These prompts give Claude the structure it needs, with brackets for your details.

Before you start: what Anthropic says about Claude's PowerPoint files

What Anthropic saysWhy it matters
Claude can create PowerPoint (.pptx), Word, Excel and PDF files to download or save to Google DriveYou get an editable deck, not just text to copy
On Free, Pro and Max plans you turn on Code execution and file creation in Settings > CapabilitiesIf Claude only gives you text, this switch is usually off
The maximum file size is 30MB per file, uploads and downloadsKeep image-heavy source files lean
Be specific about structure, content and formatting, and expect to review and refineA detailed brief gets a usable first draft
With network access on, hidden instructions in outside files or sites could trick Claude into sending data elsewhereOnly attach files you trust, and watch what it does

That last point is the one most people skip. Anthropic itself recommends monitoring Claude while it works with files and stopping it if it accesses data unexpectedly, so don't feed it a random file from the internet alongside your confidential plans.

Prompts to build a deck from scratch

Start here when all you've got is the topic and the audience.

Copy this prompt

Create a PowerPoint presentation of [number] slides on [topic] for [audience]. Use one idea per slide, a short headline on each, no more than four bullets, and add speaker notes under every slide.

Copy this prompt

Build a [number]-slide pitch deck for [idea or project]: problem, solution, how it works, who it's for, evidence, plan and next steps. Keep the design clean with plenty of white space.

Copy this prompt

Make a training deck that teaches [skill] to [audience] in [number] slides, with a quick quiz slide at the end and speaker notes that explain each point in plain language.

Copy this prompt

Create a short presentation introducing [team or service] to new clients: who we are, what we do, how we work together and how to get in touch.

Prompts to turn existing material into slides

Attach the file, then tell Claude how to cut it down.

Copy this prompt

Turn the attached document into a [number]-slide PowerPoint for [audience]. Keep only the main points, move the detail into speaker notes, and add a summary slide at the end.

Copy this prompt

Convert these meeting notes into a short update deck: what we decided, what's in progress, risks and next steps. One slide each.

Copy this prompt

Use the attached report to build a slide deck that explains the findings to people who haven't read it. Add a slide of key takeaways at the start.

Copy this prompt

I'm pasting a blog post below. Turn it into a [number]-slide presentation I could give as a short talk, with a strong opening slide and a clear closing message. [paste text]

Prompts for structure and story

For when the content's there but the deck doesn't flow.

Copy this prompt

Before making any slides, give me an outline for a presentation on [topic] for [audience]: slide titles and one line on what each slide proves. Wait for my approval, then build the file.

Copy this prompt

Reorder the slides in the attached deck so it tells a clear story from problem to answer, and tell me what you moved and why.

Copy this prompt

Rewrite every slide headline in the attached deck as a full sentence that states the point, not just a label.

Add an agenda slide after the title slide and a recap slide before the final one, based on the content of this deck.

Prompts for design and formatting

Describe the look; Claude can't read your mind or your brand guide unless you share it.

Copy this prompt

Use a simple design with a white background, dark text and [colour] as the accent colour, with the same layout on every content slide.

Copy this prompt

Turn the dense bullet points on slides [numbers] into simple diagrams or two-column layouts so they're easier to read from the back of a room.

Copy this prompt

Add a clear chart to slide [number] showing [data], with labelled axes and a one-line takeaway above it.

Copy this prompt

Apply consistent fonts and sizes across the whole deck and make sure no slide has more than [number] words on it.

Prompts for speaker notes and rehearsal

The part most decks are missing.

Copy this prompt

Write speaker notes for every slide in the attached deck, around [number] sentences each, in a friendly, conversational tone.

Copy this prompt

Give me a short script for presenting this deck in [number] minutes, with a suggested time for each slide.

Copy this prompt

List the five questions the audience is most likely to ask after this presentation, with a short answer for each.

Copy this prompt

Create a one-page handout in Word that summarises this presentation for people who couldn't attend.

How to get better PowerPoint files from Claude

  • Turn on Code execution and file creation first, or you'll only get text back.
  • Ask for an outline before the file. Approving the structure saves rebuilding a whole deck.
  • Say the slide count, the audience and the maximum words per slide.
  • Share your colours and a sample slide if you have a house style.
  • Open the .pptx, check every number and name, and make the final design tweaks yourself.

If you're deciding which assistant to use for this kind of work, my comparison of Claude and ChatGPT explains where each one shines. Keeping your brand notes and past decks in a Claude project means you don't re-explain your style every time, and my guide to Claude for Excel covers the spreadsheet side of the same feature.

My advice on Claude prompts for presentations

Use Claude to get from a blank screen to a solid first deck, then spend your own time on the parts only you can do: the story, the examples and the final polish. Ask for the outline first, keep slides light, and always ask for speaker notes because that's where it saves you the most effort. And be careful with what you attach. A clean brief and trusted files will get you a deck worth presenting.
