KDP's payment options page lists Nigeria with wire transfer in NGN and no direct deposit or check, so royalties arrive by wire into a naira account. The catch is that wire has a minimum payout and KDP says it may be subject to fees. Nigeria also has no row in the IRS treaty table.
Nigerian authors get conflicting advice about Amazon KDP, mostly because older blog posts say it can't pay you at all. I've gone back to KDP's own help pages and the IRS treaty table instead. On those pages Nigeria has a wire transfer route in naira, which is different from the direct deposit most countries get, and that difference shapes everything below. I'm not a tax adviser, so treat this as a map and not a ruling.
Wire transfer is the Nigerian route, not direct deposit
KDP's payment options page lists Nigeria with wire transfer in NGN. The direct deposit and check columns for Nigeria are marked not available. Countries such as Kenya, India and Pakistan get direct deposit, so don't copy a guide written for them.
That matters because wire transfers work differently. KDP's page says wire transfers have minimum payment thresholds and may be subject to fees. It doesn't state a fee amount, so your own bank's charges are something to ask about.
The wire minimum before KDP pays you
KDP's thresholds page lists a wire threshold of 100 US dollars on Amazon.com, 100 pounds on Amazon.co.uk and 100 euros on the euro stores. Direct deposit has no threshold, but that isn't your method.
Royalties accrue separately for each store. KDP says below-threshold wire royalties carry over in a running total until the minimum is met, and the amount is measured after tax withholding. So a book that sells mainly on one store may reach the minimum sooner than one spread thinly across several.
How long a wire takes after the payment date
According to KDP, royalties are paid every month, approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which the sale was reported. After that, wire takes 5 to 10 days. If the Payments Report shows Paid but the funds haven't arrived, KDP says to contact your financial institution.
For a naira account, check with your bank about incoming foreign wires and what documents it wants. I'm not going to guess at bank-specific rules, so ask your bank directly.
| What I checked | What KDP says for Nigeria |
|---|---|
| Payment method | Wire transfer |
| Payout currency | NGN |
| Direct deposit | Not offered for Nigeria |
| Check | Not offered for Nigeria |
| Wire minimum on Amazon.com | 100 US dollars |
| Time to arrive after payment date | 5 to 10 days |
| IRS treaty table row | None for Nigeria |
Setting up the account and the name on it
KDP says the name in Account Details should be the legal name of the author, and that the account holder name on your bank account must match your bank's records. If the name doesn't match exactly, KDP warns it may not be able to deposit your payments. KDP may also ask you to verify your identity after you add the account.
It also says its payment options differ by where your bank is located, so the bank you enter is what decides the route. Pick the account you want paid into with that in mind, and keep your mailing address current, because KDP uses it for tax reporting and royalty payments.
Fees and exchange rates on a naira payout
Most books are priced in dollars, pounds or euros. KDP says where royalties are paid in a currency other than the sale currency, Amazon converts them at its own exchange rate, with conversion fees included. Because your payout is in naira, expect conversion on most sales.
Compare the amount in your Payments Report with what your bank credits, and ask your bank about any receiving charge. That's the real check, and I can't predict the difference for you.

Tax: Nigeria and the IRS treaty table
Third-party guides sometimes quote a treaty rate for Nigeria. I checked the IRS treaty Table 1 instead, and it has no row for Nigeria, so it lists no treaty royalty rate for the country. Don't take a rate from a blog and type it into a tax form.
KDP says non-US publishers' royalties are subject to 30% US tax withholding for eBook sales on Amazon.com and print sales on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.jp, Amazon.com.au and Amazon.ca, unless a reduced treaty rate applies. It also says a reduced rate won't apply until you provide a TIN, and that without a US TIN you may enter the income tax identification number issued by your country's tax authority. For what that means for you, ask a Nigerian accountant.
If wire transfer doesn't suit you
Many Nigerian authors compare wire with other ways to hold foreign income. I'm not recommending one, because KDP only pays by the methods on its table, and PayPal isn't among them. For background on other tools, my guides on PayPal in Nigeria, Payoneer in Nigeria and Wise in Nigeria explain what each service says for Nigerian users.
Whether KDP will wire into any of those accounts is something only KDP can confirm. Ask its support, and keep the answer in writing.
Scams that use the Amazon name
- KDP doesn't charge a fee to release royalties.
- Never share your bank PIN, OTP or login with anyone claiming to be from Amazon.
- Change bank details only inside your own KDP account.
- Treat any course that promises KDP income with suspicion.
So, does Amazon KDP work in Nigeria?
On KDP's own table, yes, through wire transfer in naira. The honest catch is the minimum payout, possible fees and a longer wait than direct deposit countries get. Check Getting Paid in your account and ask your bank before you build plans around it.
