Is Plug Tech Legit? Warranty, Returns and Fees (2026)

Yes, Plug looks like a real refurbished electronics seller: its own pages say it ships from its headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, and back devices with a 12-month warranty and 30-day returns. The catch is in the refund policy, which says there's a 10% restocking fee on any return, so read it before you buy.

Buying a second-hand phone from a website you've only seen in an ad is a nervous moment, so I get why people ask whether Plug is legit. I've read Plug's own About page, warranty page, inspection page and refund policy. Here's what they say, where the small print bites and how to avoid copycats.

Who is Plug Tech

Plug's About page describes it as a consumer electronics provider that connects people to reliable Certified Pre-Owned Devices. It says devices ship from Plug's headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. The same page says Plug is certified to R2v3, a standard for responsible electronics recycling.

I couldn't find the name of the company's founders or legal owner on the pages I read, so I can't tell you that. What the site does give you is a named location, written policies and a warranty page, which is more than a throwaway shop would bother with.

What Plug sells and how it checks devices

Plug's site says it sells certified pre-owned and refurbished iPhones, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches, audio and accessories. Its Certified Pre-Owned Assurance page says every device goes through a proprietary 90+ point functionality evaluation, plus deep cleaning and sanitization, hand-tested by trained in-house technicians.

The checklist includes Battery Health (80%+) and a Battery Capacity check. It also lists checks for Network and Manufacturer Lock and for Activation and Reset Locks, which matter because a locked phone is a nightmare. The page doesn't define the condition grades, though, so labels like Excellent or Good on a product title are Plug's own wording. Ask what they mean before you pay.

The Plug 12-month warranty

Plug's warranty page says the warranty is free with every device and covers product defects, hardware and software, including battery failure. If you make a claim, the page says Plug will repair the device or send a replacement once it has received yours.

Read the exclusions too. The page says the warranty doesn't cover transportation or storage damage, unauthorized repair, improper use, normal wear and tear or accidents. It also calls the warranty limited, so a cracked screen from a drop won't be covered.

Returns, restocking fees and refunds

This is where I'd slow down. Plug's refund policy gives 30 days after receiving your item to return it, in original condition with original packaging, and you need a receipt or proof of purchase. Then come the catches:

  • The policy says there's a 10% restocking fee on any return.
  • You must email Plug to request a return first, and items sent back without a prior request are not accepted.
  • The 30-day policy applies only to devices. Added accessories, bundles and premium shipping are nonrefundable, and sale items can't be returned.
  • The refund goes to your original payment method after Plug inspects the return, and your bank may take additional time to post it.

The pages I read don't say who pays return shipping, so ask before you send anything back. Plug's site also advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee, but the refund policy is the document that sets the conditions, so use it to judge the deal.

Plug Tech compared with other refurbished sellers

If you're weighing Plug against other options, read how each one handles returns, because policies differ. My explainers on whether Back Market is legit and Swappa is legit show how a refurbisher and a peer-to-peer site work differently. I don't rank sellers, because the right one depends on the device, the condition you accept and what you can afford to lose if it goes wrong.

Fake Plug sites and refurbished phone scams

Refurbished phones are a classic bait item. Scam shops advertise a flagship phone at an unbelievable price, then vanish, or ship a locked or counterfeit device.

  • Type the address yourself and check the spelling before entering card details.
  • Pay only inside the official checkout, never by bank transfer, gift card or crypto.
  • Check the phone's IMEI and activation status when it arrives, and test the battery, camera and cellular service within the return window.
  • Be wary of social media ads using the Plug name with prices far below normal.

Reviews can help, but they can be faked too. My guide to spotting a fake product review shows what to look for.

My verdict on Plug Tech

Plug is a legit refurbished seller by what its own pages show, with a published inspection list, a warranty and a return policy. Just remember the 10% restocking fee, the email-first return rule and the exclusions in the warranty. Test the device hard in the first few days, and keep your receipt and packaging.
