To get a Snapchat streak back, open the Chat that was on the streak and look for a Restore button, then tap it and follow the in-app instructions. Snapchat's help says only recently expired streaks can be restored, and no button means it can't be restored. If an attempt fails, send Snapchat's support form.
Losing a streak that you've kept going for weeks feels oddly personal. It happens to teenagers and parents, and it happens to small business owners and creators who use Snapchat to stay in touch with their audience. The good news is that Snapchat has an official way to try to bring a streak back. The honest news is that it doesn't always work, and it depends on how recently the streak ended.
Everything below follows Snapchat's own help articles. Menus change between app versions, so look for the same wording rather than the same position.
Restoring a lost Snapchat streak from the Chat screen
Snapchat's help article on losing a streak says to look for a Restore button next to the Chat that was on a streak. Here's how I'd do it:
- Open Snapchat and go to the Chat screen.
- Find the one-to-one or group Chat that had the streak.
- Look beside it for a Restore button.
- Tap Restore and follow the instructions that appear in the app.
- Check the Chat again to see whether the fire emoji and your count are back.
Do this as soon as you notice the streak has gone. Snapchat says streaks can only be restored for a limited time, and it doesn't publish how long that is.
If there's no Restore button on your Snapchat streak
Snapchat's help says that if the Restore button isn't there, the streak can't be restored. It usually means the streak ended too long ago. I know that's disappointing, but I'd rather tell you straight than send you hunting for a hidden trick. There isn't one that Snapchat describes.
Please also steer clear of any website, app or person that claims to bring streaks back for you. Snapchat's help describes only its own in-app route, and handing your login to a stranger is a good way to lose your whole account. My page on recovering deleted Snapchat messages covers the same warning for chats.
What to do if the Snapchat streak restore doesn't work
Snapchat's help article on trouble restoring a streak breaks it into a few cases, which I'd try in this order:
- No Restore button: the streak likely expired too long ago, so read how streaks work and expire.
- The in-app restore attempt fails: if a purchase fails inside the app, Snapchat says to follow Apple's guide on iPhone or Google Play's guide on Android.
- The restore didn't work even though you tried recently: send Snapchat's support request form, and Snapchat says its team will review your request.
The help centre's Contact Us route is the right place for the form. Keep your message short: say which friend or group the streak was with, and roughly when it ended.
Restoring several Snapchat streaks at once on iPhone
If you lost more than one, Snapchat has a separate article. It says restoring multiple expired streaks at once is currently only available for iOS users. The steps it gives are:
- Look for Restore buttons next to the Chats that had streaks, and tap one.
- Choose Restore All, if that option appears.
- Tap Restore and follow the in-app instructions.
If Restore All doesn't appear, Snapchat says you can still restore each streak one at a time with its own Restore button. If a particular streak has no button, it can't be restored.
How a Snapchat streak works and when it expires
Understanding the rule makes it easier to protect streaks in future. Snapchat's help says you're on a streak when you and your friends send Snaps back and forth at least once a day, every day. A streak expires if more than a day passes without a new Snap from everyone in the Chat.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Photo or video Snaps count. A normal chat message isn't a Snap.
- In group Chats, most members must send a photo or video Snap each day.
- The number beside the fire emoji is how many days old the streak is.
- An hourglass emoji beside the Chat means the streak is about to expire.
When you see that hourglass, send a photo or video Snap straight away. If you're not sure whether a friend has seen it yet, what Opened means on Snapchat explains the status labels.
When you can't see your Snapchat streak count
Sometimes the streak hasn't gone; the display has. Snapchat's article on a missing streak count says availability varies by region or app experience, and that in some versions the day count and emoji may not show even while you're still Snapping each other. Its advice is to keep sending daily Snaps, because the streak may still be active, and to read how streaks work if you aren't sure of the timing.
If the emoji has disappeared because you and your friend missed the window, the streak may have expired, and then the restore steps above are the place to start. For other emoji meanings, my guide to red and yellow hearts on Snapchat is a good companion.
Keeping your Snapchat streaks going from now on
- Send a quick photo or video Snap every day, even if it's just your ceiling.
- Agree with your friend who will send first, so neither of you assumes the other has.
- Treat the hourglass as an urgent alert.
- Keep the Snapchat app updated so the streak display behaves as intended.
- If a streak is not worth the stress, let it go. Friends are worth more than numbers.
