How Much Can You Make on Turo? Host Share and Fees (2026)

On Turo you keep a share of the trip price you set, decided by your earnings plan. US hosts keep 70%, 80% or 90%, and the higher your share, the higher your damage responsibility, from 250 to 2,750 US dollars per incident. In some cities the share also depends on how far ahead guests book, reaching 100% on the top plan.

Turo lets you rent out your own car to other people, and you set the daily price. What you can make comes down to two things: how often your car is booked, and how much of each booking Turo lets you keep. Turo publishes the second part in detail, so that's where I'll start. Everything here comes from Turo's own help centre.

How much Turo takes: earnings plans and host share

Turo calls the part you keep your host share. It's a percentage of the trip price, meaning what you charge for the days your car is booked. Your share is set by the earnings plan you choose, and Turo says its fees, shown on your earnings receipt, cover the cost of running the platform and the cost of your earnings plan.

US hosts choose from three plans:

Turo planHost share of trip priceDamage responsibility per incident
More peace of mind70%250 US dollars
Balanced80%1,500 US dollars
More earnings90%2,750 US dollars

Damage responsibility is what you pay before you're eligible for reimbursement if your car is physically damaged during a guest's trip. So the trade-off is simple: keep more of every booking, and carry more of the risk when something goes wrong. You choose a plan for each vehicle when you list it, and Turo says you can change it at any time, though changes don't apply to trips already requested, booked or under way.

Turo's variable host share in some US cities

In Austin, Dallas, Detroit, Las Vegas, Maui, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego and Seattle, Turo uses a variable host share. Your percentage depends on your plan and how far in advance the guest books, and Turo says hosts get a higher share for trips booked further ahead:

Booked in advanceMore peace of mindBalancedMore earnings
28+ days80%90%100%
14-27 days75%85%95%
3-13 days70%80%90%
0-2 days65%75%85%

If you host in one of those cities, encouraging early bookings can lift your share noticeably. Last-minute trips pay you less of the same price. Turo says the share shown at booking is fixed, even if the trip changes afterwards.

What else Turo pays hosts in full

Not everything is split. Turo says host share percentages don't apply to some categories, which come to you in full when approved:

  • Incidental costs: 100% of approved reimbursements for on-trip charging, post-trip recharging, refuelling, tickets and tolls.
  • Cleaning and smoking fees: 100% of approved fees.

Delivery and Extras, such as add-ons you offer guests, work differently by country. Turo says US and Canada hosts receive a share in line with their earnings plan, while hosts outside the US and Canada receive 90% of the delivery price and 90% of the Extras price.

There's a deadline on incidentals, and it's shorter on plans that pay you more. Turo gives five days (120 hours after the trip ends) on More peace of mind, four days (96 hours) on Balanced, and three days (72 hours) on More earnings to submit refuelling, recharging and mileage overage invoices. Miss it, and you lose the claim.

What decides how much you can make on Turo

There are no published typical earnings for hosts, and for good reason: they depend almost entirely on choices you make. The main ones:

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

  1. Your daily price. The trip price is the number every percentage is taken from.
  2. How often the car is booked. An empty week earns nothing, however good your share.
  3. Your earnings plan. More share means more risk, so weigh it against how you'd cope with a large repair bill.
  4. Booking lead time, if you're in one of the variable-share cities.
  5. Your costs. Cleaning, servicing, depreciation and your own insurance all come out of what you keep.

Insurance and protection on Turo

All US earnings plans include, according to Turo, third-party liability insurance of up to 750,000 US dollars, issued to Turo by Travelers. For physical damage, Turo reimburses eligible costs above your damage responsibility, either the cost of repair or the Actual Cash Value of the car up to 200,000 US dollars for a total loss. Turo also says you may decide to carry more personal insurance if you want extra protection. Check your own policy and talk to your insurer before listing, because hosting can change what your cover allows.

How Turo pays hosts

Turo pays through Stripe. For your first completed trip, Turo says Stripe typically starts the payout three business days after the trip ends. For later trips, it starts three hours after the trip ends. Your bank then takes an additional three to five business days to process the direct deposit. On trips longer than a week, Turo says you get partial payouts every seven days until the trip finishes.

For tax, Turo income is yours to report. Keep your earnings receipts and your costs together, and ask an accountant how hosting income works in your situation.

Turo is often sold as passive income, but a car needs cleaning, handovers and messages, so it's more of a small business.
