Waitlist App Picks (2026): 8 Pre-Launch Tools With Referrals

A waitlist app collects signups before a product launches, gives each person a place in line and usually lets them move up by referring friends. The main choice is a hosted signup page or a viral referral campaign tool. Check exports, unsubscribe handling and fake signup checks before you start. Eight follow, in no particular order.

This page is about pre-launch waitlists for software and products: the list of people who want to hear the moment you open the doors. It isn't about restaurant tables or salon queues; for those, my guide to the best queue management systems is the one you want.

The eight tools below are in alphabetical order and in no particular order of merit. Each description comes from the vendor's own website, as of Nov 2026.

Eight waitlist apps for a product launch

KickoffLabs

Best for: Marketers running pre-launch waitlists where leads climb by telling friends and taking actions, with fraud checks and reward emails built in, as its page claims.

LaunchList

Best for: Founders who want a waitlist website or form, emails to the list, beta invites and analytics, with each signup given a status page showing their place.

Launchrock

Best for: Makers wanting a block-based launch page from customisable templates, with email capture, surveys and social sharing, plus courses and how-to guides.

Prefinery

Best for: Startups that want every signup to get a referral link and move up by referring others, with referral tracking to spot engaged users, per its page.

SmashSend

Best for: Startups running gamified competitions, with a unique referral code per signup, a leaderboard of top referrers and automation flows to email the audience.

UpViral

Best for: Marketers who'd like a viral waiting list and sweepstakes in one platform, which its page describes as building a customer base before launch.

Viral Loops

Best for: Teams that prefer templates with no code, including a Startup Prelaunch template where people refer friends to reach the top of the list.

Waitlister

Best for: Indie founders on Framer, Webflow, Next.js or React who want a signup page, referral rewards and list emails together, showing each signup their position.

Signup page builders versus viral referral campaigns

These tools come at the same job from two directions, and knowing which one you need saves a lot of trial and error.

Page first. Waitlister and Launchrock give you the signup page itself. The first plugs into sites built on popular builders and frameworks; the second is a page builder with templates and its own guides. If you don't have a site yet, this is the quicker route.

Referrals first. Prefinery, Viral Loops, UpViral and SmashSend are built around the referral mechanic: a link or code per signup, a position that improves with every friend referred, and leaderboards or rewards. They suit a launch where word of mouth is the main growth plan. If you're already thinking beyond launch day, my list of referral program software covers the tools for ongoing referrals.

What happens to the list after launch day

Buyers tend to compare referral mechanics and miss three things that matter more once the list exists.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Can you take it with you? Ask whether you can export the full list and every referral record if you leave, not just a column of email addresses. Who referred whom is the most useful data you'll collect, and it's the bit most likely to be stuck inside a tool.

Launch emails still follow email rules. People joined for one product launch. Your emails to them still need a working unsubscribe and a lawful basis, so the list can't simply be treated as a general marketing list. The rules depend on where your signups live, so check them for each country before you send.

Junk signups. A leaderboard that rewards fake or self-referred entries gives you a big number and a list that won't convert. LaunchList's page says fake signups are held back before they count, and KickoffLabs says fraud checks are built in. Whichever tool you choose, ask how it handles this before you launch the campaign.

Seven questions to ask a waitlist tool

  1. Can I export every signup and every referral record in one file?
  2. Does each signup see their place in line, and how is it worked out?
  3. How are fake, duplicate or self-referred signups held back?
  4. Can I host the form on my own site, or only on your page?
  5. Is there a working unsubscribe on every email the tool sends?
  6. Can I send launch emails from the tool, or do I need my own email platform?
  7. What happens to the list and the referral data if I cancel?

Do you make a waitlist or pre-launch referral tool? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My honest advice before you start a waitlist

Start with the question nobody asks: what will you do with this list on launch day? If the answer is one launch email and a beta invite, a simple hosted page is plenty. If you're planning to grow the list mostly through referrals, choose a tool built around referral mechanics and spend your time on the reward, because people share for something they want, not for a better number.

Whichever you pick, test the export before you collect a single signup, and keep your launch emails short, useful and easy to leave. A smaller list of people who want the product beats a huge one padded with entries that never open an email.

Frequently asked questions

What is a waitlist app?

It's a tool that collects signups before a product launches, gives each person a place in line and lets you email them when you're ready. Many add referral links so people can move up.

How do referral waitlists work?

Each signup gets a unique link or code. When friends join through it, the person who shared moves up the list or unlocks a reward, depending on the tool.

Is a waitlist app the same as restaurant waitlist software?

No. Restaurant and service waitlists manage people queuing for a table or appointment. A product waitlist collects interest before a launch.

Can I use my waitlist for general marketing emails?

Be careful. People joined for a launch, and email rules on consent and unsubscribing still apply. Check the rules for the countries your signups live in.

How do I stop fake signups on a waitlist?

Choose a tool that checks for fake or self-referred entries, and look at how rewards are triggered. Rewarding verified signups rather than raw clicks helps.

Should my waitlist sit on my own website?

If you already have a site, embedding the form keeps people on your domain. If you don't, a hosted signup page gets you live faster.
