How to Make Money on Snapchat: The Routes Snap Itself Offers

Snapchat's own routes are its invite-only Monetization Program, which shares ad revenue through Creator Rewards, plus Creator Subscriptions for select creators and brand partnerships for eligible ones. Snap doesn't charge for an invitation, so anyone asking you to pay isn't from Snap.

The routes Snapchat itself offers

RouteWhat Snapchat's help saysHow you get in
Monetization ProgramAds run between Snaps in a Public Story or within a Spotlight, and Creators in the programme get a share of revenueInvitation by email after Snap reviews Creators
Creator RewardsShow as Pending for 14 days, then AvailableThrough payment-eligible activities, including ads within Public Stories and Spotlights
Creator SubscriptionsPaid monthly subscriptions via the app store, still rolling outSelect creators only, invitation by email
Brand partnershipsBrands may discover eligible creators through their Public ProfileComes with being eligible for monetization

That's drawn from Snap's help pages, checked as of Nov 2026, and it's the honest shape of the thing: these are routes for established Creators, and the main one starts with Snap choosing you. There's no application form on the page. This page sticks to what Snap says, and it won't give you an earnings estimate, because Snap's help pages don't give any. If that's what you're after, my separate pieces on what Snapchat pays its creators and pay for a big view count are where that question lives.

Nobody can sell you an invitation

Read this bit before you read anything else. Snapchat says on its Monetization Program page that Snap doesn't charge fees or accept payment of any kind in exchange for an invitation, and that no third party controls eligibility.

So if someone contacts you promising to get you in for a fee, you've got your answer. Snap says plainly that such a third party isn't connected to it or authorised to act for it. Don't pay them. It doesn't matter how official the message looks, or how good the story is. Snap's own words leave no room for an agent, a fixer or a paid shortcut.

The real invitation arrives by email, at the address on your Snapchat account. That makes one small job worth doing today: check that the email on your account is current and that you can still get into it. If Snap ever does write to you, that's where it'll go.

What Snap looks for before it invites you

Snap regularly reviews Creators, and it lists the criteria that may make you eligible. I've got a fuller breakdown on the programme requirements, but here's the list as Snap's page gives it, as of the date above.

  • At least 50,000 followers.
  • Fifteen thousand hours of view time over the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 of those hours coming from Spotlight.
  • At least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority where you live.
  • Original, advertiser-friendly content.
  • Living in an eligible country. Snap links to the list on its page.
  • Snap Star status.
  • Accepting the Monetization Terms and the Creator Monetization Policy.

My plain read: that's a high bar, and it's meant to be. Meeting the list still only makes you someone who may be invited. So if you're starting from a small account, this isn't a quick route, and it's best not to plan around it.

From posting to cash: the rewards timeline

Once you're in, the money moves through a few stages. Ads run between Snaps in a Public Story or within a Spotlight, and Snapchat's Creator Rewards page lists those ads among the payment-eligible activities.

  1. You post. Spotlight videos must be at least 30 seconds long to be eligible to earn revenue. Snap says ads are served mainly on the time Snapchatters spend watching your Stories and Spotlights, so watch time is the thing to focus on.
  2. You keep your Spotlight time up. From May 7th, 2026, you need at least 100 hours of Total Spotlight View Time over the last 28 days to qualify for maximum Creator Rewards. The Daily Rewards Eligibility section at the top of Insights shows where you stand.
  3. Rewards appear as Pending. You'll see them in the All Activity section of the Creator Rewards Hub, in your Profile. They take 14 days to become Available.
  4. You cash out. You manage payouts in-app. Once you're fully onboarded for payouts, you can cash out a minimum of 100 US dollars daily, whenever you choose (as of Nov 2026).

Two things in that list catch people. Money you can see isn't money you can move yet, because of the 14-day wait. And the minimum applies per cash-out, so a balance under that figure stays put until it's reached it.

Subscriptions and brands, the two side doors

Snapchat describes Creator Subscriptions as paid monthly subscriptions through the app store. They're still rolling out, only select creators can offer them, and Snapchat emails the invitations. So again, you can't simply switch this on.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

If you're invited, the benefits Snap lists for your subscribers are direct Snaps, subscriber-only Story content, priority Story replies with a Subscriber badge, and subscriber customizations.

Brand work comes up differently. Snap says eligible monetized creators may also be discovered by brands through their Public Profile. Note the word may: it's a possibility, not a promise.

What these pages leave out

Snap's Monetization Program pages don't state a revenue share percentage, so I can't give you one. The eligible countries and tax forms sit on separate Snap help pages, so check those before relying on anything you've heard about either. And there's no how-to-apply process for the Monetization Program on the page, because Snap reviews Creators and does the inviting itself.
