Yes, you can use your WhatsApp Business account on WhatsApp Web. As of Nov 2026 WhatsApp Help says you link it with a QR code or with your phone number and an 8-character code, you can have up to four linked devices, and you need to open the Business app on your phone at least every 14 days to keep them connected.
The WhatsApp Help pages for the Business app talk about WhatsApp Web, so that's what this page covers: getting your business number onto a browser, how many devices you can run, and which jobs still need your phone.
Linking with your phone number, step by step
Most people know the QR code method. Linking with your phone number is handy when your phone camera won't play nicely with the screen, and as of Nov 2026 WhatsApp says this option is only available on WhatsApp Web. Update the Business app to the latest version first.
- Open WhatsApp Web on the computer you want to link. If you're already signed in with a personal WhatsApp account there, log out first, or you can't continue.
- Click Link with phone number.
- Choose your country, type your business phone number, the one on your primary phone, and click Next.
- An 8-character code appears on the computer screen.
- On your phone, tap the Enter code notification from the WhatsApp Business app. Check the device name it shows and tap Confirm.
- If asked, confirm it's you with your fingerprint, face or phone PIN.
- Type the 8-character code into your phone. The browser is now linked.
Missed the notification? Open the Business app instead. On Android, open the menu, then Linked devices, Link a device, and Link with phone number instead. On iPhone, go to Settings, Linked devices, Link device, and the same Link with phone number instead option.
Step one is the one that catches people. If you share a computer with your personal WhatsApp, the browser has to log out of that account before your business number can go on. I'd keep business and personal in separate browser profiles so you're not logging in and out all day.
Four devices and the 14-day rule
Without any extras, WhatsApp Help says up to four linked devices can work without your primary phone staying connected. Your phone doesn't need to be online while your team uses WhatsApp Web. But if you don't use the primary phone for over 14 days, the linked devices disconnect.
That's the rule I'd put in the team calendar. If the business phone lives in a drawer while everyone works from browsers, someone needs to open the app on it every week or so. Otherwise one morning every browser is logged out and customers are waiting.
When you need ten devices instead of four
WhatsApp's multi-agent feature lifts the limit. Here's how the two set-ups compare, as of Nov 2026.
| Set-up | Linked devices | Extra tools | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Business app | Up to four | Name your linked devices | The WhatsApp Business app on your primary phone |
| Multi-agent | Up to 10 | Name devices, assign chats to agents, see which device or agent sent a message | Benefits in a Meta Verified or Meta One subscription |
Two honest caveats from the Help page. First, WhatsApp says the premium version of this feature may not be available to you yet. Second, the maximum number of devices depends on the benefits in your subscription. If you cancel, or your benefits change, only your four most recently active devices stay linked.
To link a device this way, open the Business app on your primary phone, tap Tools, then Subscriptions, then Meta Verified or Meta One, then Linked devices and Link device. Scan the QR code on the other screen and give the device a name. Using the agent's name works well, and you can change it any time.
Calls behave differently too. With no more than four linked devices, calls ring on all of them. With more than four, only the primary phone rings. If your team takes WhatsApp calls, that's worth knowing before you add a fifth person.
Assigning chats is simple. Touch and hold a chat, select any others, then choose Assign chat and pick the agent. Customers can't see which agent or device replied, or who their chat was assigned to.
What you can and can't change from the browser
On WhatsApp Web you can open your business profile from the menu and edit quite a lot: the profile photo and cover photo, the description, address, business hours, email, website and catalogue, and up to three business categories. Both photos are public by default. There's no custom category, so if yours isn't listed, WhatsApp suggests a more general one or Other Business.

Some things stay on the phone. WhatsApp Help says your business name, phone number, services and linked accounts can only be edited in the WhatsApp Business app on a mobile device. Creating and editing a business username isn't available on WhatsApp Web either, and usernames are still rolling out gradually.
Multi-agent linked devices also miss a few features, as of Nov 2026: tablets aren't supported, you can't view live location, and you can't create or view broadcast lists. If broadcasts are part of your routine, keep them on the primary phone.
Logging a device out
When someone leaves the team, unlink their browser the same day. On the primary phone, open WhatsApp, go to Linked devices, tap the device and tap Log out. You can also log out on the linked device itself from its settings. For the wider picture of how linking works across phones, tablets and computers, my linked devices guide goes further, and if you'd rather run a second phone than a browser, here's how a second phone works with WhatsApp Business. There's also a separate guide to the WhatsApp desktop app.
My set-up for a small team
I'd start with the free four-device set-up: the business phone as primary, plus WhatsApp Web in a dedicated browser profile for each person answering customers. Name each device after the person using it. Put the 14-day check-in on a recurring reminder.
Skip multi-agent until you've got more than four people answering at the same time, or you need to assign chats and see who replied. Until then, it adds a subscription without solving a problem you've got.
If several people answer customers on WhatsApp, tidying up the process around that shared inbox is the kind of work I help teams with. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
