To cancel Grammarly, sign in, click the Account tab in the left sidebar, go to Your account, then Subscription, and click Cancel Subscription at the bottom of the page. Cancelling stops auto-renewal and you keep your paid features until the current period ends; as of Nov 2026, Grammarly's help centre says refunds are issued only if required by law.
The route changes depending on how you bought it, whether you're on a trial, and whether you're part of a team or the newer Superhuman suite. Here's each version, with the catches Grammarly's own help pages mention.
Cancel Grammarly on the website in five steps
- Sign in to your account and click the Account tab in the left sidebar.
- Click Your account, then Subscription, in the menu that appears.
- Click Cancel Subscription at the bottom of the page.
- In the window that opens, click Continue.
- Choose a reason for cancelling and click Cancel Subscription.
On a phone, you can do the same at account.grammarly.com. Cancelling isn't the same as deleting your account. That's a separate process with its own help article, and you don't need it to stop paying.
Where to cancel, depending on how you paid
| How you bought it | Where to cancel | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
| Grammarly website | Account, then Your account, then Subscription | Renewal stops; paid features stay until the period ends |
| Free trial on the website | The same steps | The trial ends at once; the account becomes free with no charge |
| Apple App Store | Through Apple, not Grammarly | Refund requests go to Apple too |
| Team plan | The admin cancels on the Subscription page | Renewal stops; access lasts to the end of the period |
| Superhuman suite | The Subscription page, or your linked Grammarly account | Applies across every Superhuman app |
If you're not sure which row you're in, look at your receipts. An Apple receipt means Apple, and no button on Grammarly's site will touch that subscription.
Cancelling a Grammarly free trial
The steps are identical, but the result isn't. When you cancel a trial, Grammarly says it ends immediately and your account converts to the free version without any charges. Your data isn't lost and you keep all your documents. So don't cancel on day one of a seven-day trial expecting to keep the paid features for the week; you won't.
Then there's the charge that worries people. If you signed up for a seven-day trial of a paid plan, Grammarly says you won't be charged before it ends. A pending transaction on your card during the trial is most likely a verification charge, there to check that your payment method works. It should show as Pending, then either disappear if you cancel or be replaced by the real charge if you keep the subscription.
Trials aren't always on offer; Grammarly says it runs them periodically. When they tend to appear is covered in this guide to the Grammarly free trial.
Grammarly refund rules
Grammarly's refund page is short. You can cancel at any time, but as its Terms of Service set out, refunds are issued only if required by law. If you bought through the App Store, you ask Apple.
The exception is a billing mistake. Grammarly's billing policy says that if you've been charged by mistake or there's been an error in billing, you submit a support request with the details and it'll review your case. If you don't hear back within 24 hours, check your spam folder, because email providers often block addresses they don't recognise.
It helps to know how renewal works. Subscriptions renew automatically at the standard rate using the payment method on file. If you joined on a promotional rate, that rate covers one subscription period only, and promos apply to the first seat only.
What stays on your account after you cancel
A paid cancellation is quiet. Nothing changes until the end of your current subscription period, and you keep every paid feature until then. After that, the account simply stops renewing.
If you were on the old Premium plan bought on the website, you may notice your plan now says Pro. Grammarly began moving website Premium customers to Pro in March 2025, at no extra cost, with the billing amount unchanged and no option to opt out. Premium bought through the App Store or Google Play isn't changing. Either way, the cancel steps are the same.
Team plans and the Superhuman suite
On team plans, the admin cancels. Grammarly's cancel-renewal guide covers Superhuman Pro, Superhuman Business, Grammarly Pro, Grammarly Plus and Grammarly Business:
- Go to the Subscription page.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Subscription.
- Click Yes, continue.
- Choose a reason and click Cancel Subscription.
If you only want fewer seats, you don't need to cancel at all; there's a separate option to add or remove seats.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
The line most people miss: if you're a Superhuman user, cancelling through your associated Grammarly account applies across all the other apps in the Superhuman suite. That's Go, Docs and Mail, not just your writing checks. Superhuman's own subscription guide says you keep the service until the end of the term you paid for, but previous charges aren't refunded. And if you also have a separate individual Superhuman Mail subscription, Grammarly's billing FAQ says you cancel that one inside Mail with Cmd+K or Ctrl+K, then Billing.
No Cancel button? Check the account first
Grammarly says that if you don't see the cancellation button, make sure you're logged in to the correct account. It's common to have a free account on a work email and the paid one on a personal email, or the other way round. Its Problems signing in article helps you track down the paid account, and if you can't get into it at all, contact Support.
When I'd cancel
I'd cancel on the website the day before renewal, once you've decided. On a paid plan you lose nothing by doing it early, because features last to the end of the period anyway, so there's no reason to leave it to the last minute and risk forgetting. The only exception is a trial: cancel that early and it ends on the spot.
Skip chasing a refund unless you were billed in error. Grammarly's terms say refunds happen only where the law requires them. A billing mistake is a different story: send the support request, include the details, and keep an eye on your spam folder.
While you're tidying up, it's worth checking what else renews this month. There's an AI subscription audit that walks through it, and if Claude's on your list too, here's how to cancel a Claude plan. Menus do move, so check Grammarly's own help centre for the latest; the steps above are as of Nov 2026.
If your team's AI and software subscriptions have crept up, that's the kind of AI enablement I help sort out. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.

Do I keep Grammarly Pro after cancelling?
Yes, until the end of your current subscription period. Cancelling stops automatic renewal, but you keep all paid features for the rest of the period.
Does Grammarly give refunds?
Grammarly says refunds are issued only if required by law. If you were charged by mistake, submit a support request with the details.
What happens if I cancel a Grammarly free trial?
The trial ends immediately and your account converts to the free version with no charges. Your documents are kept.
Why was I charged during my Grammarly trial?
A pending charge during a seven-day trial is most likely a verification charge to check your payment method. It's removed if you cancel.
How do I cancel Grammarly bought through the App Store?
Cancel through Apple, not Grammarly. Refunds for App Store purchases also go through Apple.
