Squarespace Google Workspace: Sign Up, Add Users and Cancel

Squarespace sells Google Workspace as a reseller, so you can create a custom email address on your domain, with Gmail, Calendar and Drive, straight from your domains dashboard: pick the domain, click Email, then Get started. You then pay for Workspace through Squarespace but use your email, calendar and documents in Google.

The catch is that the integration is only for new Workspace accounts. If your domain already has a Google Workspace, G Suite or Google Apps account, or already has MX records, you can't sign it up through Squarespace until you free the domain up with Google. And cancelling later isn't a reset button: it hands the account to Google, and it can't come back to Squarespace.

Can you sign up? The requirements

  • You're in a country Google Workspace supports.
  • Your site is on Squarespace version 7.1 or 7.0, or you're using a domain parking page. Squarespace 5 sites and the Mobile start plan can't.
  • You're a site owner or admin, or the domain owner if you're signing up from a parking page.
  • The site has a custom domain, from Squarespace or a third party, with no special characters such as an accent.
  • The domain has no Essential Email by Titan subscription and no existing Google Workspace verification TXT record.
  • Your homepage is public. Workspace won't work behind a page or site-wide password.

You also can't register Workspace on both a Squarespace domain and a Squarespace subdomain at the same time. Eligible sites on higher plans get a free year of the Starter plan, which is worth checking against Squarespace pricing before you buy.

The three Google Workspace plans

Starter100 participants30 GBGemini in Gmail, standard support
Standard150 participants plus recording2 TBGemini in Gmail, Docs and Meet, NotebookLM Plus
Plus500 participants, recording and attendance tracking5 TBVault and advanced endpoint management

Your price depends on the plan and the number of users, monthly or annually. Choose carefully, because you can't switch to a different billing plan after the account's created.

How to sign up through Squarespace

  1. Open the domains dashboard, click the domain, then Email and Get Started. For a third-party domain, click Add next to Google Workspace under Other tools.
  2. Choose monthly or annual billing and select a plan.
  3. Enter your name and a username, and a personal email you already use, not the new address.
  4. Add a card. Squarespace advises one without 3D Secure features to avoid failures.
  5. Find the Welcome to Google Workspace email with your temporary password, log in and accept Google's terms.
  6. Verify your domain in the Google Admin console if Google asks.
  7. Add the MX records. On a Squarespace domain with default nameservers they're added for you; on a third-party domain or custom nameservers, you'll get emailed instructions.

New MX records can take up to 48 hours before email flows. If you're moving a domain into Squarespace at the time, wait until the transfer finishes before adding Workspace. One more safety tip from Squarespace: don't use your new Workspace address as your Squarespace login. If the domain lapses or you forget both passwords, you could be locked out.

Adding users and aliases

You can add up to 300 more users from the Google Workspace panel. Only domain owners, website owners or administrators can do it. Each new user is charged at a prorated price for the rest of your billing cycle, and everyone renews together. Before you start, reseller access needs to be on in your Google Admin console.

  1. In the domains dashboard, click the domain, then Email, then Manage Google Workspace.
  2. Click Add Users and enter the first name, last name and username.
  3. Switch on Administrator only if this person should have full Workspace admin access; that's separate from website permissions.
  4. Enter their current personal email, which can't be on the Workspace domain, so the invitation reaches them.
  5. Add billing, review and click Confirm and Purchase.

If someone only needs a second address, such as a marketing inbox, add an alias instead. Aliases cost nothing extra and deliver into the user's existing inbox.

Common errors and fixes

ProblemWhat's usually behind it
Can't sign upThe username exists, the domain isn't formatted correctly, or the terms haven't been accepted
A user already exists with this emailRemove that username in the Google Admin console, then add it again
Can't verify the domainSign-up isn't finished, or the domain is blocked
Email not arrivingMX records, or the domain or Workspace subscription isn't active
Failed to Cancel Google WorkspaceNo Workspace user has Administrator access; give one user that role

Squarespace support covers the Workspace panel, billing, eligibility, signing up and users. For anything inside Google itself, such as groups or migrating mail, you go to Google.

What cancelling does

Cancelling in Squarespace transfers the account to Google, where you can set up billing and carry on, or close it. Your emails, contacts and files stay put. You can't move it straight to another reseller, and you can't redeem the free year on another domain afterwards.

How you cancelWhat happens, as of October 2026
Cancel now from the Billing panelAccount moves to Google with a 7-day grace period to add billing there
Turn off auto-renewEmail is suspended at the end of the cycle, then disconnected and moved to Google after 40 days
Annual plan in the 15-day renewal windowTurning off auto-renew then still renews once, and a full refund only applies if you cancel inside that window

Monthly plans get no refund. And note that cancelling your Squarespace website doesn't cancel Workspace; it keeps renewing on the card on file. Squarespace's own advice is not to cancel because setup's going wrong, since you can't start over that way. Contact support first.

My verdict on Google Workspace through Squarespace

I'd sign up through Squarespace if your site and domain are already there and you don't have email on the domain yet, because billing sits in one account and MX records can be added for you. I'd skip it if you already run Workspace through Google or another reseller, since you'd have to free the domain and start over. If you're still getting set up, my guide on how to use Squarespace covers the basics.

Once everyone's on Workspace, shared inboxes and calendars are a natural place to start automating the routine admin. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my existing Google Workspace with Squarespace?

Not directly. The integration is only for new accounts, so you'd need to free up your domain from the existing account with Google first.

How many users can I add to Google Workspace in Squarespace?

Up to 300 more users from the Google Workspace panel. Aliases for one user cost nothing extra.

How long do Google Workspace MX records take on Squarespace?

New MX records can take up to 48 hours to fully process.

Does cancelling Google Workspace in Squarespace delete my emails?

No. It transfers the account's billing to Google, and your emails, contacts and other content stay intact.

Can I switch Google Workspace from monthly to annual billing on Squarespace?

No. You can't switch to a different billing plan after creating your account, so choose monthly or annual carefully.
