Steam Deck Plugins (2026): 11 Decky Loader Plugins Compared

Steam Deck plugins are add-ons that run through Decky Loader, a community-made plugin loader, and you add them from the Decky plugin store. The most downloaded ones change how your library, menus and sounds look and feel. Below are eleven plugins with the store's own download counts, update checks and latest build dates, as of Oct 2026.

Steam Deck plugins let you change things the standard interface doesn't: custom library artwork, themes, menu sounds, game lengths on your game pages and more. They all run through Decky Loader, which has to be on your Steam Deck before any of these plugins can be added.

The eleven below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. Every detail comes from the Decky plugin store's own data, and I've kept each description to what the listing says. If you're still building your library, my guide to finding Steam games worth playing is a good place to start.

How these plugins were picked

These are eleven of the most downloaded listings in the Decky plugin store, as of Oct 2026. For each one I've read the store's own numbers: the download total across every published version, the update checks counter, how many versions have been published, the date of the latest build and who the store says made it. Nothing here was tested on a device. The store shows no plans for any of these plugins, so every cell in the last column reads Not stated.

Downloads versus freshness

Here's what the download counts hide. PowerTools has 605,806 downloads and EmuDecky has 562,732, as of Oct 2026, which puts them fifth and sixth by downloads on this list. Yet the latest build of the first is dated 18 Jun 2024, and the latest build of the second is dated 20 Jan 2024, with only 2 versions published. Several plugins further down the download list have builds from Oct 2026.

HLTB for Deck runs the other way. It has 504,366 update checks against 351,613 downloads, as of Oct 2026, the only plugin here with more update checks than downloads. Its latest build is dated 19 Oct 2026, from 25 published versions. So a big download number tells you a plugin was popular at some point. It doesn't tell you when its author last shipped a build.

The other eight, by downloads

  • SteamGridDB: 1,720,182 downloads and 1,205,892 update checks, 22 versions published, latest build 7 Oct 2026, as of Oct 2026.
  • CSS Loader: 1,658,965 downloads and 432,879 update checks, 29 versions published, latest build 19 Oct 2026, as of Oct 2026.
  • ProtonDB Badges: 1,051,179 downloads and 514,236 update checks, 14 versions published, latest build 14 Oct 2026, as of Oct 2026.
  • Animation Changer: 894,911 downloads and 287,419 update checks, 12 versions published, latest build 10 Feb 2025, as of Oct 2026.
  • Bluetooth: 527,978 downloads and 160,908 update checks, 12 versions published, latest build 23 Oct 2026, as of Oct 2026.
  • vibrantDeck: 522,345 downloads and 104,874 update checks, 18 versions published, latest build 19 May, 2024, as of Oct 2026.
  • Storage Cleaner: 458,174 downloads and 132,236 update checks, 9 versions published, latest build 22 Oct 2024, as of Oct 2026.
  • Audio Loader: 436,646 downloads and 185,606 update checks, 16 versions published, latest build 5 Oct 2025, as of Oct 2026.

The two most downloaded plugins on the list are about artwork and theming, not performance. Both change how the Steam Deck looks.

Which kind of plugin for which job

  • If you want your library to look different, pick an artwork or theming plugin.
  • If you want different menu sounds or a new start-up animation, pick an audio or boot animation plugin.
  • If you're short on space, pick a storage plugin that shows and clears shader cache and compatibility data.
  • If you're deciding what to play next, pick a backlog or game info plugin that shows game lengths or ProtonDB badges on your game pages.
  • If you already use EmuDeck for emulation, pick the emulation plugin made for it, and check its latest build date first.
  • If you want to change power or colour settings, pick a power or display plugin, and look at when it was last updated before you add it.

Reading the Decky plugin store's numbers

The download total covers every published version of a plugin, not just the latest one. Update checks is a separate counter, and on this list it ranges from 104,874 to 1,205,892, as of Oct 2026. The number of versions published shows how often an author has shipped a new build, from 2 to 29 here.

Treat all of these as a starting point. The counters move every day, and they say nothing about quality or whether a plugin suits your setup. The latest build date is the one number I'd look at before anything else, because it tells you whether anyone has touched the plugin recently.

My plain advice on choosing Steam Deck plugins

Add one plugin at a time, starting with the change you want most. That way, if anything looks or behaves differently afterwards, you'll know which plugin did it. Check the latest build date in the Decky plugin store before you add anything, because a high download count tells you it was popular, not that it's been updated lately.

And don't feel you need all eleven. You'll probably only want two or three that fix the things that bug you every day. If you'd rather spend the time adding to your library, my guide to claiming PC games through gaming subscriptions is worth a look.

Frequently asked questions

What are Steam Deck plugins?

They're add-ons that run through Decky Loader, a community-made plugin loader for the Steam Deck. You add them from the Decky plugin store, and they change things like library artwork, themes, sounds and the information on your game pages.

Which Steam Deck plugins have the most downloads?

On this list, the artwork and theming plugins lead by downloads, as of Oct 2026. The store's counts move daily, so check the Decky plugin store for the current numbers.

What's the difference between downloads and update checks?

They're two separate counters in the Decky plugin store. Downloads is the total across every published version of a plugin, and update checks is its own count. One plugin on this list has more update checks than downloads.

How do I know if a plugin is still being updated?

Look at the latest build date and the number of versions published on its store listing. A recent date means the author shipped a build lately; an old one means nothing new has been published since.

Do download counts tell me a plugin is good?

No. They tell you how often it's been downloaded, nothing more. Read the listing, check the latest build date and add plugins one at a time so you can see what each one changes.
