ChatGPT Pro Plans: Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 Explained

ChatGPT Pro now comes as three monthly plans: Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500. All three include Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads; Pro 200 has more usage than Pro 100, and the new Pro 500 has the most and is the only one with Ultrafast, as of October 2026.

Pro 200 is open to new subscriptions again. If you're weighing Pro against the cheaper plan, my ChatGPT Plus vs Pro comparison covers that. This page is about the three Pro tiers themselves.

The catch: a new Pro 200 isn't the old Pro 200

New Pro 200 subscriptions that don't qualify for grandfathering get a lower usage allowance than Pro 200 used to include. OpenAI says this reflects increasingly efficient models. The monthly price stays the same. So the same plan name now buys less included usage than it did, unless you're grandfathered.

The three tiers at a glance

PlanIncluded usageUltrafast
Pro 100Base Pro planNot included
Pro 200More usage than Pro 100Not included; grandfathered allowance ends on 29 October 2026
Pro 500Highest included usageIncluded for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol

Who keeps the old Pro 200 allowance, and until when

Grandfathering applies if you had an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from 22 September 2026 through 10 a.m. Pacific Time on 29 September 2026. If that's you, you can use the previous included allowance through 29 October 2026, as long as your Pro 200 subscription stays active.

The grandfathering window ends on 29 October 2026. After that, your subscription moves to the lower allowance at the same price. Only affected users get an email about it.

Two details matter. Keeping the old allowance doesn't upgrade your plan or add Ultrafast. And if your Pro 200 ended and you subscribe again on the same account, you still qualify as long as you had an active Pro 200 in that window. Otherwise the new, lower allowance applies.

Ultrafast and Fast mode: how fast they use your allowance

Ultrafast is only on Pro 500, and you pick it in the model picker. For GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, it uses your included usage at 8 times the Standard rate. Once that runs out, it draws on your credit balance at 6 times the Standard credit rate.

Here's what surprises Pro 100 and Pro 200 users. At launch, buying credits on those plans doesn't give you Ultrafast. Credits won't buy your way into it.

Fast mode is separate. It uses your included allowance at 2.5 times the Standard rate for the same model. OpenAI is clear that these are allowance consumption rates, not promises of faster performance.

How usage limits work on Pro

Usage depends on the model, how much context is processed, reasoning, tool use, information retrieval, caching and speed mode. That's why two similar tasks can use different amounts.

Hitting a limit doesn't end your subscription or restrict your account. The model may be unavailable until its allowance resets, and ChatGPT shows the reset time when it's available. Support can't reset ChatGPT or Codex limits, though it can look into it if usage was counted wrongly.

Credits can fund eligible usage in Codex, ChatGPT Work, ChatGPT for Word, ChatGPT for Excel and ChatGPT for PowerPoint after included usage runs out. They don't add usage for every model or feature. You'll find your balance and purchases under Settings, then Usage in ChatGPT, or Usage and Billing in Codex.

If you want the plain-English version, the ChatGPT Billing guide has it.

Billing, plan changes and cancelling

  • Pro is billed monthly. Annual billing and paying several months ahead aren't available.
  • Change plans under Settings, then My Plan.
  • Cancel through the platform you bought on: ChatGPT, Apple or Google Play. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel.
  • Cancelling stops future renewals, and you normally keep the plan to the end of the billing period. It doesn't automatically refund earlier charges.
  • A failed renewal payment doesn't by itself mean your subscription has ended.
  • You can keep Pro alongside a Business workspace if your personal workspace stays separate. Merging it into Business changes how the subscription is handled.

If you decide to drop down or stop, here's how to cancel a ChatGPT subscription on each platform. One more rule: account sharing, reselling access and automatic data extraction aren't allowed on Pro, and access can be restricted for misuse.

Checking your own plan

  1. Open Settings, then My Plan, to see your plan and the changes on offer.
  2. If you're on Pro 200, check whether you were active between 22 and 29 September 2026.
  3. Watch your usage under Settings, then Usage, and buy credits only for eligible features.
  4. If you move to a smaller plan, change or cancel on the platform that bills you.

My verdict

I'd stay on Pro 100 unless you keep hitting its limits, because every tier gets the same core features. I'd go to Pro 500 only if you need Ultrafast on GPT-6 Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol, since credits won't add it on the smaller plans. And if you're on Pro 200, don't read a new review and assume your allowance matches theirs. Check whether you were grandfathered, because from 29 October 2026 you're on the lower allowance either way. If you're comparing Pro with another AI subscription, see ChatGPT Pro vs Claude Max.
