Business texting software gives a team a shared inbox for two-way text conversations with customers from a business number, so replies, notes and handovers happen in one place instead of on personal phones. It's different from bulk SMS marketing, and many products now bundle texting with calling, AI agents or lead tools. Ten options follow in no particular order.
Customers text because it's quick, and they expect a quick reply. The trouble starts when those texts land on one person's mobile and nobody else can see them. Business texting software puts every conversation in a shared inbox on a business number, with automations and integrations so nothing gets dropped.
This list is about two-way conversations, not blasting promotions to a list. The ten tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from each vendor's own website, read as of Oct 2026. If you want bulk campaigns instead, my guide to SMS marketing software covers that.
Two-way business texting tools side by side
I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or an open source edition. Trial only means the page names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.

Texting now comes inside phone systems and lead tools
Here's what stood out on the vendor pages. OpenPhone is now Quo, sold as a shared phone system for small businesses. Podium's page leads with AI lead generation and lead management rather than texting, and Sendblue sells iMessage for business, so your messages travel over Apple's messaging app.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
That changes the buying question. If you also need a business phone line, a texting tool bundled with calling may replace two subscriptions. If texting feeds your sales pipeline, a tool tied to your CRM may matter more than the inbox itself.
Shared texting inbox or bulk SMS campaigns
- Two-way texting inbox. Conversations with individual customers, shared across a team, with assignments, notes and templates.
- Bulk SMS marketing. Campaigns sent to a list, with opt-ins, segments and scheduling. Several tools here do both, but their strengths differ.
- Phone system with texting. Calls and texts on the same business number, handy for small teams that answer both.
Whichever you choose, only text people who've agreed to hear from you. One vendor here puts it plainly: if your contacts agreed to receive it, the tool will handle it.
If most incoming texts are support questions, the shared inboxes in my roundup of help desk software for small businesses are worth a look too.
What to check before you move your business number
- Existing line. Can you text-enable your existing landline or business number, or do you need a new one?
- Team features. Look for a shared inbox, assignments, internal notes and saved templates.
- Integrations. Does it connect to your CRM, help desk or booking system?
- Automations and AI. Check for auto-replies, scheduled texts and AI agents that answer common questions.
- Channels. Is it SMS and MMS only, or does it also cover webchat, social messages, email or iMessage?

My plain advice on choosing business texting software
Start with how your team works today. If texts come into a business line that also takes calls, look at a phone system with texting built in. If they're sales conversations, pick a tool that lives inside your CRM. If it's support, choose the cleanest shared inbox you can find.
Then trial it with real customers for a couple of weeks. Two vendors here name a free trial on their own pages, and several others let you try for free, so test replies, handovers and opt-outs before you move your main number.

Frequently asked questions
What is business texting software?
It's a tool for sending and receiving text messages from a business number, usually through a shared team inbox on desktop and mobile, with automations and integrations.
Is business texting the same as SMS marketing?
No. Business texting is mostly two-way conversations with individual customers. SMS marketing sends campaigns to a list. Some tools do both.
Can I text from my existing business number?
Often, yes. Several vendors text-enable existing landline or business numbers, but check your number type is supported before you switch.
Can business texting include iMessage?
Some tools now offer iMessage for business, so messages reach iPhone users through Apple's messaging app rather than standard SMS.
Do business texting tools use AI?
Many now do, with AI agents that answer common questions, qualify leads or draft replies. Check what the AI is allowed to send without a person approving it.
