An AI voice detector analyses an audio clip or a live call and estimates whether the voice was generated or cloned by AI. Some are upload checkers anyone can use; most are built into contact centres, meetings and hiring interviews. Nine tools follow in no particular order, and none of them should be treated as proof on its own.
A cloned voice can sound like someone you know and trust, which is why voice notes and phone calls have become a common route for scams. Detection tools now exist for exactly this, from upload checkers to call-centre defences. The catch is that no detector spots everything, and some vendors say so on their own pages.
The nine tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. Every description comes from each vendor's own website, read as of Oct 2026. I've kept the list to tools whose pages name voice, speech or audio detection, and dropped one identity tool whose page only covered faces.
AI voice detectors compared
I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or free tools, or calls the product free. Trial only means the page names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.
| Tool | Type | Good for | Free plan |

| Clarity | Interview deepfake detection | Spotting deepfaked candidates in hiring interviews | Not stated |
| ElevenLabs AI Speech Classifier | AI speech classifier | Checking whether a clip came from ElevenLabs | Not stated |
| Hive | Deepfake detection APIs | Platforms scanning synthetic audio, images and video | Yes |
| Pindrop | Deepfake defence for calls | Synthetic speech in phone calls and meetings | Not stated |
| Reality Defender | Deepfake and AI caller detection | Spotting AI callers in fraud and identity checks | Not stated |

Nine AI voice detectors, from clip checkers to call defences
AI or Not
Best for: Checking one suspicious clip yourself by uploading audio, image or video files, with an API for developers who need checks at scale.
Aurigin
Best for: Contact centres and video calls that need real-time voice anti-spoofing which holds up through the compression and packet loss of real calls.
Clarity
Best for: Hiring teams screening live video and audio interviews for deepfakes and proxy candidates, using ensemble AI that analyses subtle details in real time.
ElevenLabs AI Speech Classifier
Best for: Checking whether a clip was made with ElevenLabs, though its own page warns it doesn't reliably classify audio from the Eleven v3 model.
Hive
Best for: Platforms moderating uploads at scale, with deepfake detection APIs for synthetic audio, images and video, and free detection tools to try.
Pindrop
Best for: Contact centres and meeting platforms, identifying synthetic speech in phone interactions and detecting deepfakes in virtual meetings.
Reality Defender
Best for: Banks, telecoms and government teams checking audio, video and images before sensitive decisions, from contact centre fraud to executive impersonation.
Resemble Detect
Best for: Developers adding real-time detection to an app, as it returns a plain-language explanation for audio, video and images rather than a bare score.
TrueMedia.org
Best for: Journalists, researchers and the public, as it's a non-partisan, open source project hosted at Georgetown University to assess manipulated media.
Voice detection isn't text detection
An AI voice detector listens to audio. It's a different job from the AI text detectors teachers use on essays, which read words on a page. If you're checking writing rather than a recording, my explainer on how AI writing detection tools work is the one you want.
Who each voice detector is built for
The vendor pages split cleanly into two groups. Most are enterprise defences that sit inside phone lines, meetings and hiring interviews, checking calls in real time. A smaller group lets anyone upload a clip and get a result, which is what you need if a voice note or video has landed in your inbox and something feels off.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Pindrop's own page puts the gap plainly: it says only 10% of security leaders have deepfake-specific defences. That's why so many of these tools are aimed at contact centres and banks, where a cloned voice can open an account or move money.
Read the small print on accuracy
One clip checker claims 98.9% accuracy on its home page. Treat any single number with care, and ask what kind of audio it was measured on. Another vendor makes the point for me: it says its detection holds accuracy through the compression and packet loss of real calls, not just clean lab audio. Phone audio is messy, and that's where detection gets harder.
The most candid line I found came from a voice company checking its own output. ElevenLabs says its classifier doesn't reliably classify audio made with its Eleven v3 model. In other words, a clean result from one detector proves less than you'd hope, especially against the newest voice models.
What to do with a suspicious voice note or call
- Don't act on the request yet. Cloned voices are often used to rush someone into sending money or sharing a password.
- Call back on a number you already know, not the one that called you.
- Run the clip through more than one detector, and treat the results as clues rather than proof.
- Agree a family or team code word for urgent requests, so a cloned voice can't pass.
- If it's a business risk, look at the enterprise tools here, which check calls live rather than after the event.
For the bigger picture, my guide to what a deepfake is explains how they're made and spread.

My plain advice on AI voice detectors
If you're an individual checking one clip, use an upload checker, try two of them and still verify through a second channel. If you run a contact centre, a hiring process or a bank's phone line, you need real-time detection inside the call, so test the enterprise tools on your own recordings, including noisy ones. And remember the detector is the second line of defence; the first is the habit of calling back.
If you're curious how easy cloning has become, my guide on where to clone your voice with AI shows the other side of the same technology.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI voice detector?
It's a tool that analyses an audio clip or a live call and estimates whether the voice was generated or cloned by AI.
Can AI voice detectors be fooled?
Yes. One voice company says its own classifier doesn't reliably catch audio from its newest model, and phone compression makes detection harder. Use results as evidence, not proof.
Is there a free AI voice detector?
Some options here name free tools or describe themselves as free, shown in the free plan column. Several others let you start free without naming a plan, so check each vendor's site.
How do banks and call centres detect voice deepfakes?
They use real-time detection that sits in the phone or meeting system and flags synthetic speech while the call is happening.
Is an AI voice detector the same as an AI text detector?
No. Voice detectors analyse audio, while text detectors analyse written words. Some platforms check text, images, video and audio, but the methods differ.
