Etsy Ads is Etsy's pay-per-click advertising, which promotes your listings in Etsy search results, category pages and market pages on Etsy.com and the Etsy app. You set a daily budget from a $1 minimum, you're only charged when someone clicks, and a new shop has to wait 15 days after opening before it can start.
Here's the catch. Your maximum daily budget starts at $25, and Etsy recalculates it every week from what you've spent over the last 7 days (days with no spend don't lower it). Etsy's three listing strategies are only available while that maximum is at least $25. Below it, every listing runs on Efficient spending. And because of the 15 day wait, a brand-new shop can't lean on ads for its first sales.
Everything here comes from Etsy's US Help Center as of October 2026, so these are US prices and rules. UK, Canadian and Australian sellers will see local versions.
Etsy Ads rules at a glance
| Rule | What Etsy says |
|---|---|
| Wait after opening a shop | 15 days |
| Minimum daily budget | $1, and you can change it any time |
| Starting maximum daily budget | $25, recalculated weekly |
| Listing strategies available | When your maximum daily budget is at least $25 |
| What you pay for | Clicks only. Ad views aren't charged |
| Ad groups | Up to 20, and a listing can sit in only one at a time |
| Who sees your ads | Buyers in countries you ship to |
| Attribution window | 30 days |
Two budget rules sit behind that table. You'll never spend more than your daily budget, and charges post to your Payment account the next day, so a busy day shows up on your account the morning after.
Setting up your first campaign
- Go to Shop Manager, then Marketing, then Etsy Ads, and click Get started.
- Set your daily budget. The minimum is $1 and you can change it whenever you like.
- Choose which listings to advertise.
- Group them if you want. You can create up to 20 ad groups, with each listing in one group at a time.
- Pick a listing strategy, if your maximum daily budget is at least $25.
- Leave it running and review your stats after at least 30 days.
The three listing strategies
Once your maximum daily budget reaches $25, you can choose Greater visibility, Efficient spending or Lower click cost for your listings. Below $25, Etsy puts every listing on Efficient spending. Whichever you pick, Etsy recommends running a strategy for at least 30 days before you judge it. That's worth taking seriously, because a week of data on a small shop tells you very little.
How Etsy decides whose ad shows
Etsy Ads run in an auction. Two things decide where your ad lands: listing quality, which is how likely shoppers are to click it, and your bid, which Etsy drives by how likely the listing is to sell and its relevance to the search. Quality factors include your listing and shop history, and strong titles and tags.
That's why Etsy says plainly that ads are unlikely to turn a low-demand listing into a top seller, and tells you to optimise listings first. If your titles and tags need work, start with these Etsy SEO tools before you raise your budget.
Why you can't see your own ads
This one worries a lot of sellers. Etsy may not show your ads to you, because you're less likely to buy from your own shop than other shoppers are. It doesn't mean your ads aren't running. Check your Etsy Ads stats instead of searching for your own listings.
Reading your Etsy Ads stats
Your stats show ad views, ad clicks, click rate, orders from ads, revenue from ads, budget spent, ROAS and search terms. Two of them work differently from what most people expect.
- Orders and revenue from ads count when a shopper interacts with an ad and then buys any item in your shop within 30 days, not only the item they clicked.
- A click isn't the same as a visit. A visit counts once if the shopper comes back within 30 minutes, but two ad interactions in that window count as two clicks.
If you're comparing options, the Etsy Stats Explained guide fills in the rest.
Etsy Ads or Offsite Ads?
Etsy Ads is the one you control: your budget and your listings, shown on Etsy itself. Offsite Ads is a separate program that puts your listings on other sites and is charged differently. If the last click before a purchase was an Etsy Ads click, only the Etsy Ads fee applies to that order.

My verdict on Etsy Ads
I'd get your titles and tags right first, because Etsy itself says ads won't rescue a listing nobody wants. Then start with a small daily budget on the listings that already sell, leave any strategy alone for 30 days, and judge it on your stats, not on whether you can spot your ad in search. If you're adding up what Etsy costs you overall, here's how much Etsy takes from each sale.
Ads buy clicks on Etsy. Getting your shop found, in search and in AI answers, is where I help. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement, AI automation and GEO, which is about getting your business seen and cited in AI answers. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams, telecom companies and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
