An AI travel planner asks where you're going, when, who with and what you enjoy, then drafts a day-by-day itinerary you can edit. Some also answer travel questions, track fares or turn saved videos into a plan. Ten apps follow in no particular order, most of them from small, independent teams.
Twenty open tabs, three guidebooks and a spreadsheet nobody else in the family looked at: that's how most of us used to plan a trip. An AI planner won't replace all of that, but it'll give you a solid first draft in minutes, and editing a draft is far easier than starting from a blank page.
The ten apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. I read every description on the app's own website or App Store listing this week. A few are browser tools you can try without an account, and the rest are phone apps. If you prefer to plan inside a chatbot, my guide to ChatGPT prompts that work for planning travel shows how to get a useful itinerary from a general AI tool.
AI travel planners side by side
I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website or App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version, a free account or free use. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the tool's own site before you sign up.

The check every AI itinerary needs
An AI planner is only as current as the data behind it, and entry rules change. GOV.UK's foreign travel advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office covers 226 countries or territories, with advice and warnings on entry requirements, safety and security, health risks and legal differences.
So before you book anything an app suggests, check the official advice for every country on the route. If you're not travelling from the UK, your own government will publish something similar. It only takes a few minutes, and it's far better than finding out at the border.

Five ways to get a better plan from an AI
- Tell it your pace. A relaxed trip and a packed one need very different days.
- Say who's coming, including ages, so it doesn't plan late nights for small children.
- List the two or three things you won't miss, and let it build around them.
- Ask it to group stops by area, so you're not crossing the city twice a day.
- Check opening days for every attraction before you set your heart on it.
Once the trip is booked, room planners help with the home side of things.
Where AI planners fall short
They're brilliant at structure and less reliable on detail. A restaurant may have closed, a museum may shut on Mondays, and travel times between stops can be wildly optimistic. Treat the itinerary as a shape for your trip, then confirm the bookings and the timings yourself.
They also can't read the mood of a place. Leave some empty time in every day. The best moments on a trip are rarely the ones anyone planned.
Do you make AI travel planners or trip planning apps? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on choosing a travel planner
Pick the app that matches how you like to plan. If you're organising a group, choose one built for sharing. If you plan from videos you've saved, choose one that reads them. Then use the draft as a starting point, check the official travel advice and confirm every booking yourself.
If you plan trips for clients, my guide to AI tools travel agents use to plan itineraries looks at the professional side.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI travel planner?
It's an app or website that asks about your destination, dates, interests and travel style, then drafts a day-by-day itinerary you can edit.
Are AI travel planners accurate?
They're good at structure but can be out of date on details like opening times and entry rules, so confirm bookings and check official travel advice.
Is there a free AI travel planner?
Yes. Several apps here name free use or a free planning tool on their own page, so check the free plan column before you download.
Can an AI travel planner book flights and hotels?
Some link to bookings or track fares, but most leave the booking to you. Always check the details before you pay for anything.
Can AI plan a group trip?
Yes. Some apps here are built for planning with friends, so everyone can see the same day-by-day plan.
