AI Quiz Generators (2026): 10 Tools for Teachers and Learners

An AI quiz generator reads a topic, your notes, a PDF, a slide deck or a video and drafts quiz questions from it, usually multiple choice, true or false and short answer. The good ones let you edit every question. Ten tools follow in no particular order, from classroom add-ins to apps for revising alone.

Writing quiz questions is one of those jobs that eats an evening. You know the material, but turning it into twenty fair questions with believable wrong answers takes far longer than it should. That's the job these tools take off your plate.

The ten below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. I read every description on the tool's own website this week. Some are built for teachers and schools, some for trainers and HR teams, and a couple for creators who want quiz content for social video. If you'd like the flashcard side too, my guide to free AI flashcard and quiz makers that work from your notes pairs well with this one.

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website or App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version, a free account or free use. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the tool's own site before you sign up.

Why little and often beats one big test

Here's the part most quiz tools don't mention. The What Works Clearinghouse, run by the Institute of Education Sciences, publishes a practice guide called Organizing Instruction and Study to Improve Student Learning. One of its recommendations is to use quizzing to promote learning, including pre-questions to introduce a new topic and quizzes that re-expose students to key content.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

So the value isn't in a single end-of-term test. It's in short quizzes before a topic starts, a few more as you go, and another round weeks later. An AI tool makes that rhythm realistic, because a five-question check takes a minute to generate rather than half an hour to write.

Need a quick graphic for the quiz results post? Look at quote generators.

Checking an AI-written quiz before anyone sees it

  1. Read every correct answer. AI tools sometimes mark the wrong option as right, and nobody trusts a quiz after that.
  2. Look at the wrong answers too. If they're silly, the question tests nothing.
  3. Cut questions that only test trivia from your source, like dates or names nobody needs.
  4. Mix the question types, so it isn't all multiple choice.
  5. Keep the questions tied to what you taught, not whatever the tool found online.

Turning notes into quiz questions pairs well with GCSE revision apps.

Quizzes for trainers, creators and small businesses

Quiz tools aren't only for schools. Trainers use them to check that a new starter has read the handbook, coaches use them to make an online course more interactive, and creators turn quiz questions into short videos that people love to answer in the comments.

If you run training inside a small business, start with your own documents. Upload the policy or process guide, generate a short quiz, then edit it until every question matches the way your team works. It's one of the quickest wins AI gives a busy owner.

Do you make AI quiz generators or study tools? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on choosing a quiz generator

Start with where your material already lives. If it's in slides, pick a tool that works inside your presentation software. If it's in PDFs or videos, pick one that reads those directly. Then use it little and often, and never hand out a quiz you haven't read from top to bottom.

If you're a teacher looking to save more time, my ChatGPT prompts that cut a teacher's workload cover marking, planning and parent emails too.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI quiz generator?

It's a tool that drafts quiz questions from a topic or from material you give it, such as notes, slides, a PDF or a video. Most let you edit the questions before you share them.

Can AI make a quiz from a PDF?

Yes. Several tools here read PDFs, Word files and slides directly, then draft multiple choice, true or false or short answer questions from the content.

Is there a free AI quiz generator?

Yes. Several tools here name a free plan, free use or free access for teachers on their own page, so check the free plan column before you choose.

Are AI-generated quiz questions accurate?

Not always. AI tools can mark a wrong option as correct or invent details, so read every question and answer before anyone takes the quiz.

How often should students take quizzes?

Little and often works best. The What Works Clearinghouse practice guide recommends quizzing to introduce new topics and to bring key content back again later.
