Revolut Alternatives (2026): 10 Banking and Money Apps

The best Revolut alternative depends on what you use it for. Some apps are full UK banks for everyday spending, some are built for spending and withdrawing abroad, some move money between countries, and some combine the cards you already have. Ten apps follow, in no particular order.

Revolut does a lot in one app: spending, saving, travel money and transfers. That's exactly why some people want to split it up, or move to a provider with a UK banking licence, interest on their current account, or a simpler app that does one job well.

The ten apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. Every description comes from the app's own App Store listing, read this week. If you work for yourself, my comparison of Revolut against a popular transfer app for freelancers goes into the business side.

Revolut alternatives at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each app's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free app, a free version, a free plan, free posting or open source. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, even where there's a download button, so check the tool's own page before you sign up.

Check who protects your money before you move it

A banking app and a bank aren't always the same thing. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protects deposits at UK banks, building societies and credit unions. It also publishes guidance on how banking licences affect that protection, and it runs a Bank & Savings Protection Checker.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

So before you move your salary, look up the firm that holds your balance in the FSCS checker. Some money apps are payment or transfer firms rather than banks, and they protect your money in a different way. That isn't a reason to avoid them, just a reason to know which kind you're using.

Questions to ask before you switch

  1. Is it a bank with a UK licence, or a payment or transfer app?
  2. What does it charge for spending and withdrawing cash abroad?
  3. Does it pay interest, and on which balance?
  4. Can your salary go into it, with your own account number and sort code?
  5. Does it offer joint, business or under-18 accounts if you need them?
  6. How do you reach a person if something goes wrong?

How to switch your everyday account

If you're moving a UK current account, the bank you're joining may offer the Current Account Switch Service, which moves your payments and direct debits for you. For an app that sits alongside your bank, move one job at a time, such as travel spending first, and keep the old app until a full month of payments has gone through.

For a small business, the rules are a little different. My guide to online business banking accounts covers what to check.

My plain advice on choosing a Revolut alternative

Work out which part of the app you lean on most, then pick the specialist for that job. Spend abroad a lot? Choose an app with no overseas fees. Send money to family or suppliers? Use a transfer app. Want your salary somewhere with deposit protection? Look the firm up in the FSCS checker first.

And don't close an account until a full month of payments has landed in the new one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Revolut?

It depends on what you use it for. UK app banks suit everyday spending, transfer apps suit sending money abroad, and card-combining wallets suit people who want to keep their existing cards.

Is there a Revolut alternative with no fees abroad?

At least one UK bank here says it won't charge for using your card abroad or withdrawing cash at an ATM. Check the latest terms in the app.

Which banking apps are protected by the FSCS?

FSCS protects deposits at UK banks, building societies and credit unions. Use its Bank & Savings Protection Checker to look up a specific firm.

Can I keep my bank and still get travel perks?

Yes. Some apps combine your existing debit and credit cards into one card for spending abroad.

Is there a Revolut alternative for freelancers?

Some apps here offer accounts aimed at freelancers and sole traders, including several account numbers.

How do I switch my salary to a new bank?

Ask your new bank about the Current Account Switch Service, and keep the old account open until a full month of payments has moved.
