Speech Therapy Software (2026): 10 Tools for SLPs and Clients

Speech therapy software covers two jobs: running a speech-language practice, with scheduling, notes, billing and teletherapy, and giving clients therapy exercises to practise between sessions. Some tools are full practice systems, some are built for school caseloads and some are apps for adults with aphasia. Ten options follow, in no particular order.

Ask three speech-language pathologists what software they need and you'll get three answers. A private practice SLP wants booking and billing, a school SLP wants caseload data ready for the next IEP meeting, and an SLP working with stroke survivors wants practice their clients can do at home.

The tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and each description comes from the provider's own website, read this week. If you're setting up your own practice, my guide on how to let clients book appointments online covers the booking side.

Speech therapy software at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each provider's own website or app store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names the app, an account, a plan or a version of it as free. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start or a store download button, so check the provider's own page before you sign up.

  • Adults with aphasia practising at home: Tactus Therapy, Constant Therapy.
  • Mixed allied health clinics: Nookal, Splose, coreplus.

Why home practice matters so much

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) says about 2 million people in the United States are living with aphasia, according to the National Aphasia Association. Many of them are recovering from a stroke.

Adults with aphasia often need far more practice than clinic time allows. That's why apps that give clients structured exercises at home, and report progress back to the therapist, have become such an important part of speech therapy.

Practice management, school tools and therapy apps

Practice management tools handle the business: scheduling, documentation, billing and often teletherapy. They're a good fit for private practices and clinics, and several cover OT and physiotherapy too.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

School tools focus on caseloads, goals and progress monitoring, so you aren't rebuilding data before every meeting. Therapy apps are for clients, with exercises for language, speech and cognition that they can do between sessions.

Features SLPs ask about most

  • Note templates. Speech-specific goals and SOAP notes save time every day.
  • Teletherapy. Interactive activities inside the video session keep children engaged.
  • Progress data. Graphs make reports and IEP meetings much easier.
  • Client portal. Online booking, forms and payments cut admin.

Paediatric and adult caseloads need different things

Paediatric SLPs tend to value visual schedules, games and activity libraries that keep young clients engaged, plus easy ways to share progress with parents. Adult and stroke rehab work leans more on structured home exercises and clear progress data for families and funders.

If your caseload's mixed, you'll want to look for a practice system that handles both and pair it with one specialist app for whichever group needs more practice between sessions.

Therapists who work alongside colleagues in a sister field can compare systems in a roundup of occupational therapy software.

Choosing in four steps

  1. Decide whether you need practice management, school tools or a client app.
  2. Check the tool supports your country's billing and privacy rules.
  3. Trial it with real sessions, not just a demo.
  4. Ask how you'd export your records if you ever left.

Do you make speech therapy, practice management or therapy apps? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on speech therapy software

Match the tool to your setting first: practice management for private work, caseload tools for schools and therapy apps for clients at home. Many SLPs end up using one of each, and the best combination is the one that saves you writing the same note twice.

Running a mixed clinic? My look at AI for physiotherapy clinics in the UK covers admin ideas that work for speech teams too.
