An AI clipart generator turns a short text prompt, or sometimes a reference photo, into simple illustrations, icons or stickers you can drop into slides, lessons, cards and product listings. Choose by the style you need, the file type you get back and whether you plan to sell what you make. Ten options follow, in no particular order.
Clipart used to mean scrolling through the same tired library until something nearly fitted. Now you can describe exactly what you need, a cartoon owl in a graduation cap or a flat coffee cup icon, and get a few versions back in seconds.
The ten tools below include design platforms with clipart libraries, AI image tools with a clipart mode and vector tools for merch. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and each description comes from the tool's own website, read this week. If you plan to sell printables, my guide to Etsy marketing strategy covers the selling side.
Clipart generators at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site says the tool, or a plan or version of it, is free. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

Can you sell AI clipart?
The U.S. Copyright Office is publishing its Copyright and Artificial Intelligence report in parts. Part 2, published on January 29, 2025, addresses whether outputs created using generative AI can be protected by copyright.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
That matters if you sell clipart packs. A pack made entirely by AI may be hard to protect, so a competitor could copy it and you'd have little to stand on. Drawing over the output, editing it and arranging it into a finished set adds your own work, and each tool's terms decide whether you can sell the images at all, so read them before you list anything.
How to get clean clipart from a prompt
- Name the style first: flat, cartoon, watercolour or line art.
- Ask for a plain or white background so it's easy to cut out.
- Describe one object at a time rather than a whole scene.
- Reuse the same style words for every image in a set.
- Check the edges at full size before you download.
PNG, SVG and transparent backgrounds
A PNG with a transparent background is the easiest file for slides, documents and social posts, because it sits on any colour. An SVG is a vector file, so it stays sharp at any size and suits cutting machines, print and merch.
If a tool only gives you a flat image, you can usually remove the background afterwards. For stickers, my guide on making a sticker on an iPhone shows a quick way to do it on your phone.
Clipart mistakes to avoid
- Mixed styles in one set. It looks messy on a worksheet or listing.
- Tiny downloads. They blur when printed.
- Ignoring the licence. Selling needs commercial rights.
- Odd hands and text. Zoom in before you use an image.
Signs your clipart set is ready
- Every image looks like the same artist made it.
- It's sharp at the size you'll use it.
- Backgrounds are clean.
- You've read the licence.
Do you make an AI clipart generator? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on AI clipart
Decide the style once, write it down and reuse it in every prompt. A set that looks like it came from one artist is worth far more to a teacher or a shop than ten clever images that don't match.
If you're selling, treat the AI output as a sketch. The edits, the curation and the finishing are what make the pack yours.
